    CLIP DESCRIPTION:
    Dutch (Arnold Schwarzenegger), camouflaged in mud, goes one-on-one with the predator at night.
    FILM DESCRIPTION:
    Dutch (Arnold Schwarzenegger) has a code of honor which he will not violate, even when his life depends on it. Paradoxically, his code of honor gives him the backbone to survive as a military special forces operative when he is sent on a covert mission to rescue another group which was sent in to assist some nefarious U.S. government plan in a Latin American country. Once there, he encounters an old army buddy (Carl Weathers) who has gotten too deep in the CIA's good graces for Dutch's comfort. When he and his team go into the jungle to rescue the others, they get involved in a pitched battle with local guerillas, but they are more than capable of besting these vicious fighters. However, not long after that, they encounter signs that the equally capable men they were sent to rescue were all killed unawares and in an unusually gruesome fashion. Given their training, it should have been impossible for anyone to best all of these commando warriors. Soon, the men from Dutch's own team get picked off one by one, as they grow aware that they are up against something uncanny, not of this world, something that is hunting them for sport. Why? Because their skills make them worthy opponents for the perfectly camouflaged Predator. This carefully paced action movie was given poor reviews by many movie critics, but was sufficiently satisfying for its (largely male) audiences that a successful sequel (Predator 2) was released in 1990.

      @dave23024 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @Levent A. Wrong. Austria and Germany are two different countries. People from Germany are German and people from Austria are Austrian. People from Mexico speak Spanish, but that doesn't mean they're from Spain.

    • @dave23024
      @dave23024 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Levent A. No they're not. You can argue this point like a child all day, but it doesn't make you right. The point is, Arnold is Austrian, PERIOD. The last time Austria shared statehood with another country was during World War I and it was with Hungary, NOT Germany. Hence, the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Besides, if you're talking about his race, it would be Germanic, anyway. Again, NOT German.

    • @dave23024

    When Dutch discovered that the mud "camouflage," he could've used it to escape, but instead, he stayed to avenge his team and to get back his manhood. I think that Dutch would rather die in the jungle than leave as a shell of himself.

    • @billylee7398
      @billylee7398 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Not exactly. Remember, he fell off the waterfall and is now further away from his extraction point. Out of ammo. Limited supply while the Predator is still out looking for him. He needs to be near the water for him to use the mud as the the will eventually thin away like when he was setting up the trap. He wouldn't make it far because he would have to travel so slow. And the Predator would still notice movement patterns.

    People downplay Arnold's acting ability way too much. He may not be the best with words which is exaggerated because of his heavy accent, but man is he one of the best actors when it comes to facial acting. In this movie he doesn't need to say a thing and you know exactly what he's thinking and feeling by the look of his eyes alone.

    This was the turning point in the movie, before this the Predator was in control and could dictate how and when it would strike by virtue of its near-perfect camouflage and deadly one-shot kill shoulder-mounted plasma cannon. But Dutch covered in mud and armed with comparatively primitive makeshift bow and explosive arrows was now in control and dictating how and when he would strike, in a sort of reversal of fortunes for the Predator which was armed with technologically advanced and superior weapons and equipment. It was drawn to heat to hunt its prey, and in like manner it was drawn to the heat of the bonfire that Dutch had set up only to become the prey itself.
    The fact that the Predator fired its shoulder-mounted plasma cannon wildly and in every direction after being hit by the explosive arrow is an interesting insight into its character. It showed that the Predator wasn’t too different to the humans it had previously hunted in the events of the movie, that it was capable of panic and desperation when circumstances spiralled out of control. In a way, you could say that Dutch was the real Predator because he was able inflict some pretty nasty wounds on the Predator itself, and did so without the advanced weaponry and equipment. This portrayal of Dutch and the Predator in the way they mirrored and contrasted each other was a stroke of genius.

    This Predator’s ego really was nocked down a peg or two. I would be willing to bet that this was the first time this Predator ever experienced his own medicine used against him. I bet up until this point in Predator history, no human successfully used mud to camouflage him/herself, and furthermore no Predator knew that Mud would block the heat signature of a human. The REAL surprise and subsequent frustration heard and seen by the Predator in this scene really demonstrates that this is a moment in history that no other Predator has likely seen before.
    No wonder this Predator didn’t kill Dutch when his head was between the wrist gauntlets , his honor was being challenged.

    This is why the predator see humans a worthy game it's not there strength technology or skill that makes them dangerous it's there craftiness

    If you ever want to know the difference between horror and terror, this scene is the perfect guide.
    Terror is looking for the monster, wondering where it is. Horror is realising that it's right behind you.

    There's always something surreal & originality about practical effect, now-a-days most of the movies are lacking this quality! I love 80's & 90's!

      In a very scared manner - a mirrored scene, just like how Mac lit up the forest like a Christmas tree when Blaine died. As other users have said, this is the moment when the hunter became the hunted.

    Man, Predator is such a skilfully made movie. The plot and the action move so quickly but the predator itself is introduced so slowly and carefully. I love how they leave the final reveal right until the end. Brilliant movie-making.

      +Captain Cartman Dude, the 2010 movie - Predators is "Predator 3" (just like the movie - Aliens is in fact "Alien 2"). The next Predator movie that comes out will be Predator 4, which is currently in the making. It'll be great if Arnold Schwarzenegger reprises his role as Dutch in Predator 4.

      Naw man he's old not to old to be in a cameo. I would say if they made another get Arnold to sign on a Dutch in a cameo and have him suggest who the main character would be! And bring in Danny Glover as detective Harrigan for reference and a cameo to!

    That was such crazy scene. Where the predator almost panics and shoots everywhere to find Arnold and he barely survives all the shots. Just imagine the caveman tech can take you long way vs modern high tech in a battle for fittest.

      Yep. It's surprising a orchestral score can come across as effective and not cliched or strange, alot like Alien score l, which jad no synth like the Thing

      Yes, this! The score is incredible! I told my co-worker who’s a music teacher this. We were talking about underrated scores in film. I immediately said, Predator. He didn’t agree with me. He said Back to the Future. I was like what? Back to the Future is HIGHLY regarded and talked about ALL THE TIME...

    Did it occur to the world, that it was Arnold's ego that created the predator franchise. He was so undefeated, he had to dream up a technologically advanced alien hunter to be a challenge for him.

    • @TimeMaster1976

      And it paved the way for alien vs predator, where the predator throws a glave and chops jesse in half. my favorite movie scene of all time.

      How about Dutch building and setting up those hunting traps? Pulling up a 500-pound tree trunk as one of his traps which I thought was awesome when I first saw this in the theatre. Never gets old. Love this movie.
