... so one of the Disappointments of a SMALL place is maybe I don't have room for a 30 Inch T.V., but wish I could find a T.V. that has the greater definition. :( it sucks, just saying.
Sharing my experience here. I am not a TV technology buff... went to store to buy the tv yesterday. Compared C3 and s95c with the same videos on youtube 4k settings, both connected to the same wifi. Actually I went to the store with c3 oled in my mind. But when i compared them side to side i found s95c had better details and colour, depths levels. Ordered s95c then and there. Sony tvs were 20% pricier than these both tvs.
I just got the 65" S95C because: NextGen TV just was rolled out in our market Samsung has a sale on their high end OLEDs and Q series soundbars My only TV was a 6 year old UN7100 50" and... it's football season. The difference moving from edge lit 4K non-HDR LCD is, quite frankly, stunning. There is some HDR10+ sample content on TH-cam which was captivating (the night scene of a Tokyo city street). I use mine set in Film Maker mode. Thanks for the review.
I own the S95C 77", S95B 65", Sony A95K 65", A80J 55", and the LGC1 48" (for gaming), I love all my sets, and all have their positives and negatives, thats why I have so many, and after calibration, tweaking settings in service menus, downloading Color App for LG, the S95C is by far (except for the S95B, and A95K which aren't too far behind), the best out the bunch, DV is a joke if you know how to calibrate, you can actually attain a way better picture. I had the G3 for a week, I just had to see the PQ after calibration, and the S95C still had a better overall picture, returned it to BB. I now await the Sony A95L to see how that fairs...
9:18 As someone with a QN90B I fully agree. The ads and, overall, poor UX makes me recommend everyone to skip Samsung TVs until they figure out their menus. I mean, at least an "input" button is something every TV should have. ADs cannot be fully disable without messing with router ad-blockers and that alone is a no-go for me no matter how good the panel may be.
This is a great tv without question and I almost waited for it as I really like Samsung and already own the QN90B from last year. No Dolby Vision is really a non issue but in the end I got such a great deal on a 77” LG G2(with gaming playing the biggest deciding factor) I jumped on it and have absolutely no regrets. Although as far as the S95C goes if the dimming is as aggressive as you say I’d definitely be going into the service menu and turning it all off(not recommended for the average user) and enjoying the tv from there.
Thanks for a well balanced, honest review. Not on top of my new tv list since Im not a Samsung reliability fan(only tv that ever broke on me was a Samsung LED years ago) . Cant wait till the Sony A95L arrives and you review it. Lots of old dvd concerts in my collection so Sony upscaling excellence puts the brand at top of my list.
It sucks that Samsung doesn’t have Dolby vision but at the same times Samsungs HDR is just as comparable to Dolby Vision when you out the G3 and S95C side by side you can’t even tell the difference. Tizen is frustrating so I suggest Apple TV but I don’t like webOS either so. While G3 being mountable only should be an issue because you pay $100 extra for stand no one complains about that one.
Hi Andrew, I am with you. I enjoy my 85" QN900B very much and I returned a S95C 77" after 2 days of use. My QN900B has only 50-60 hours on since I use it for movie watching only along with my Z9K on upstairs. It has been disconnected from the wifi since day one, so the firmware is still on 1084 which is crazy bright. The s95C looked amazing in dark scene especially when stars and lights of houses were presented, but black crushed sometimes. The resolution looks higher than it is since the contrast is perfect. Unfortuntely, when it comes to specular highlights on bright scenes , the S95C is no match to the 8k Qled which I enjoy the most according to the contents I watch. For example, the details of the petals of a flower. Most importantly, no matter how advance the QD-OLED is, each pixel is a little bulb can only takes so much heat and eventually the bulb will degrade over time only faster the brighter they get.
Got the 65” C2 a months ago and it’s amazing. Granted I am coming from my roommates TCL or Vizio 55” 4K LCD. But the jump in everything is so amazing. Playing the Deadspace remake was an awesome experience.
Love the comments; makes one think we’re discussing “sound,” and what speakers are better. Just as subjective and based on the viewer. I’m loving my 77” LG C2 but not closed minded to better options as the picture quality between all three of these brands high-end models are great, and unless you have them side by side in a room, I doubt the average viewer would be unhappy with an S95C, Sony equivalent, or C2/G3 etc. Usage would be the most determinant factor on what’s most appropriate for someone. Anyway, solid insight into this TV Andrew/Kristi and I would imagine, very helpful for potential buyers. Thanks again and keep up the great work!! ❤
Hello and greetings from Vegas! First, thank you to you and Kristi for the wonderful job you both do in reviewing the gear and producing your TH-cam content. This review's timing is auspicious since I just had my Samsung 82" go down with a power supply issue. Your review was great but the issue for me is one of price. In general most of the TVs you all review tend to be in the $3K-6K range and thus not realistically attainable for most mortals. If I may make a suggestion (perhaps even a challenge), could you please consider this for a worthwhile video: A three way, budget big screen shoot out! Find 3 TVs, 80-85", 4k@60 models for less than $2500... and compare, contrast and do all the things you'd normally do for a review. I know I would find the results stimulating and something I could actually use in a real world buying scenario. I think a vast majority of other subscribers would find it illuminating as well. Thank you.
My 77” S95C will arrive in a few days with their best soundbar system, and I will drive it with my Apple TV 4K box. It’s replacing my old 65” Sony 4K that I bought 10 years ago before HDR. I hope we like this OLED because we won’t upgrade again for another 10 years.
How do you like it? Watch out for burn-in issues. Don't let your TV run on the same channel for extended hours. Have you bought a soundbar or you still need suggestions?
@@KhaledTheSaudiHawkII Thanks. I absolutely LOVE this Samsung OLED 77” S95C. We have it turned on for only 2 or 3 hours a day in the evening. We don’t have TV channels, so no news displays with burn-in ribbons scrolling across the bottom. We don’t watch sports, so no fixed sports score graphics on the screen. We watch streamed movies, documentaries, TH-cam, concerts, and stage plays. I am probably overly careful about burn-in. We watch everything in filmmaker mode, which is unbelievably gorgeous and lifelike. The only problem with this TV isn’t the TV but the content available. This TV can magnificently display 4K, HDR, and 60 fps, but most content out there is not up to that standard. As a result, this TV is almost overkill, and an 8K TV definitely would be overkill for a long time to come. We have a long way to go before all content will be in 4K and HDR, much less 8K. But this TV does its best to upscale HD. The best content for this TV I have found are the artistic HDR videos on TH-cam by Jacob & Katie Schwartz. Absolutely stunning! That’s what I use to show off this TV to visitors. The Samsung S990C Sound system (I hope I have the model # correct) is outstanding surround sound and has many modes to make the best of whatever audio content we are streaming. I can also stream music by WiFi from my phone to the sound system with the TV off. The screen saver video on Apple TV has some of the highest quality 4K HDR content out there! Sometimes I just watch the screen saver videos of scenery because they are so crisp and spectacular! I highly recommend this TV and sound system, but don’t be disappointed when most video content available does not live up to the amazing display capabilities of this TV.
Great review, thanks. Was once a loyal Samsung customer but not recently. Still happy with both my Sony A80J and LG C1. Sony’s QD prices are pretty insane. I’ll wait a while before I jump on the QD-OLED wagon and am very interested in what the new TCL QM8 will offer. Hopefully you’ll be getting a QM8 to review soon.
When buying a TV at this price i want to check of most boxes and lack of Dolby Vision is annoying at this price point. Dealbreaker when the competition is so good. Great review as allways! And to add on Tizen, i got an 8 series from 2017. They stopped upgrading the software after 2 years EXCEPT for adding bloatware.
8k at the distance you would sit is pretty much useless over 4k. I doubt many would be able to tell the difference between the two unless they got real close.
@@42degrees86 Sure, but mini-led is very close in overall black levels and the blooming issue is something I don't see in 99.5% of real world content (not some white box moving across a black screen). I game more than I watch movies and shows, and I have no need to take any burn-in precautions. Overall I think it depends on your use case.
I have been waiting to hear your take on the S95C. I have to agree with Kristi, Samsung colors especially skin tone have always seemed off and distracting to me, even on the S95B. It is great to see this is improved with the S95C. Just waiting now to see how the A95L turns out.
Well, I have wondered since your review of the S95B if you guy got a bad unit or if the time period you had with it was while they had a bad version of the firmware out for it because I have had the S95B for the past year and never had the same complaints with it you had and feel everything you said about the S95C applies to the S95B. Also the LG C3 is the esact same TV as the C2 was lasy year and is almost not even worth reviewing. Luminance levels and the PQ-EOTF curve measure exactly the same but the G3 (so long as it's the 55", 65" or 77") has the new MLA (Micro Lens Array) tech and is much brighter than last year's G2 and is defiantly worth getting in for a review. As for the A95L, I haven't seen it yet, I'm pretty sure not too many people outside of Sony have, but I can't wait to get it into the store to see it.
The dimming is a no-go. Disabling ABL is also no option for warranty purposes. Will stick with LED for the next years until OLED matures and can keep its brightness without dimming down.
Its supposed to dim, that is how they keep the display safe. It dims on static picture that is not moving after a certain time. Not just in general, people need to stop assuming and find out them selves. All Oleds are supposed to do this to lessen burn in. Even LG and Sony's.
The 2023 85" Samsung QN900C 8K TV is the one I am most interested in, mostly because of the supposedly excellent 8K up-scaling that wasn't present on the 2022 QN900B
I have two Hisense TVs now. 55U8G and 65U8H. The 65U8H is the first TV I've owned that did not require a sound bar or AVR to have audio match the visuals. I bought both via Amazon on sale: $800 for the 55U8G and $750 for the 65U8H. Seeing the Samsung price point $3000+, there is no way LG, SONY or Samsung are worth that price premium.
I Have The S95B, And Not A Fan When It Comes To The CPU/ OPPERATING SYSTEM NOT @ ALL! Probably The Best Picture Quality When It Comes To 📺 I Had In My Home, But I'm Waiting For The View On The New Sony This Year. Again... The Samsung S95B Cpu Ect.Ect Doesn't Fair Well With eArc Avr ( I Have The Denon AVRX6700H!) Like It Did On My LG CX!

I don't care what anybody says the s95c being my first OLED is the best TV I've ever owned compared to the q60t QLED it replaced. I would have loved to have the 77 inch but I didn't have an extra $5,000 so got the 65 inch.
What?? The difference between the 65" and 77" was $5k?? I got my 65S95 for $2,100 and the 77S95C for $3k. Granted that is in Saudi Arabia, not in the states.
We have the samsung 8k Qled and the upscaling fir movies ect is incredable,however for Football ie Soccer if the signal is not 4k its a disaster as the ball disapeers when it clashes with the crowd in the background. Otherwise love the TV.
I will admit that is one sexy tv. But I had a really bad experience from Samsung tv’s in the past, even tho those were the plasma days of TVs. The lack of Dolby Vision is just irritating at this point and I can’t stand their bloat wear and their settings menu. I don’t know about you but to me Samsung makes it difficult at times when playing with their settings. I don’t like it. But one thing you said that I never thought about. That 8k is the best 4k out. After you broke it down it made a lot of sense. Just wish the price tags of 8k would come down some.
I used to buy nothing but Samsung but my last purchase was the Sony Bravia 950H which I enjoy immensely. With other brands stepping up and Samsung glitching I think they have lost their automatic top standing. What were they thinking? Thank you Andrew and Kristi for another great review.

@@PedroMartins-yv1lv also QD-OLED is showing a far higher chance of burn in than W-OLED. It’s significant. I would say the tech isn’t smoothed out yet so I personally wouldn’t touch it for a few years
I'm with you on 8k TVs. I've had a QN900A 85" for nearly two years now and have it a room where I sit quite close to it actually, about 5-10ft or so and man is it pretty. It really upscales content great. I rewatched Justified on it and many does it upscale older HD content really nicely, it adds this really unique sharpness to it. It does also upscale/enhance the noise, but it's worth it. Older content really feels higher res to me in a way I haven't seen on my 85" QN90A, previous LG 65" OLED Wallpaper tv, etc.
I know its not OLED, but how does it compare to Sony X95K ? (or X95L for that matter) do we now need OLED again, or is the miniLED still the way to go ? Unless a candle comes to rest right below the black bars ;)
I'm not seeing reviewers mention that the LG offers a 5 year warranty on the panel of the G series OLED. That could be a big selling point for people worried about burn in or panel malfunctions.
Wake me up when Samsung supports Dolby Vision. 😉 ( _sorry for being a specs-queen_ ) ( _don't get me wrong, i support their stance in supporting the 'open' codecs ... but the UHD discs [and certainly streams] ain't making HDR10+ an included sub-stream by standard ... but I cannot get on with that if I can't play things at the best quality on an otherwise stunning display_ )
Kind of a weird thought, but, wether you’re a fan or a hater of Apple, you have to agree, there is no other operating system on the market for TVs that’s as good as AppleTV4K. Period. If you’re using Tyzen, or even LGs OS, you need counseling honestly. That being said, I hate the one connect box. I had two of them replaced within the first year because of internal problems. And I don’t need my TV to be paper thin. Especially when it’s 70+ inches. It’s good that there’s more competition in the OLED market, competition is great for consumers, but Samsung has a lot to work on, and I mean a lot. Great review and conversations! AppleTVs absolutely rock! I put them above GoogleTV at this point, though GTV has gotten crazy good in recent years. TIZEN or webOS make me want to punch the wall sometimes and don't even get me started on whatever the hell VIZIO continues to push.
@@andrewrobinsonreviews I honestly forgot Vizio was still around.. but yes. AppleTV is just spot on. No ads, all the apps you can imagine, easy to use, and if you’re already in the Apples EcoSystem it’s an absolute gem.
If I were in the market for an OLED today, the LG G3 77in would easily be my choice. This panel when professionally ISF calibrated is absolutely stunning and it has DOLBY VISION, quite ridiculous that the Samsung QD-OLEDs do not.
Funny that you just released the review as I was just able to spend half an hour with an unlocked 55" model in store yesterday. I liked the picture, the way it handled light in the room (not being pitch black but a very dark grey), the flat reflections rather than wibbly wobbly reflections of LG panels etc. of the S95B already. I always thought the Samsung was more realistic looking / more plasma-like than what LG produces (as well as everyone using LG panels). What really impressed me about the S95C was the black frame insertion. At 50 Hz it at least doesn't introduce any artificial smoothing if I don't want it, though the image flickers at a seizure inducing level, so... meh. However using 24p content, regardless of HDR or not, it is bloody brilliant. The flickering is reduced to totally acceptable levels, even in bright scenes, where the S95B struggled. Also, the brightness seems pretty high for BFI. Motion is however improved, watching scenes from LotR looked quite good. Basically, this is the very first TV since the end of plasma that I consider worth getting. Sadly, the S95B has gotten really affordable, but the S95C is anything but, especially considering the lack of Dolby Vision, which is still a big setback to me (not because HDR10+ sucks, it doesn't, but what is the point of HDR10+ when you don't have any content?) and as you mentioned Tizen, which is still god awful. Sadly, the A95L will be even more expensive (and kind of ugly... those two nostrils Sony always puts on their TVs!), but when you factor in the cost of an Apple TV 4K in order to fix the Samsung... The S90C could be an alternative, however the smaller sizes use the old panels from the S95B until they run out of them, but most likely even then the performance will be limited to the models with lesser panels. So the only option is the 77", but we don't know if that one is "unlocked" or if they tried to keep all S90C on one level. Samsung being Samsung, I guess. Oh and one more thing: I believe the black crush is a technical limitation with all OLED screens, just that some deal with issues around near black by crushing blacks, and others by boosting blacks.
Andrew is 100% on how terrible the Samsung Tizen operating system is. There are some great gaming features that many TV manufacturers do not have, but it is so slow and takes too much effort to navigate that it's frustrating. I already had an LG OLED C2 in the house when I picked up a Samsung QN90B. The picture on the Samsung was gorgeous, but the software aggravated me so much that I returned it for a 2nd C2 in the same size.
Nice review. I trust LG oled for build quality, reliability and firmware updates. I bought a 77 C3, perfect on filmmaker mode and dark room. 120 fps gsync for games. All I need. No S90C for me this year.
Although I like it the best, the movie mode in my Samsung 4K TV is too yellow. My TV was also too red with regards to skin tones. I changed one of the settings to all the way on the green side.
Because of the bloatware alone, I'll avoid this TV and settle with a LG G3 as my gaming TV which I already prepared a PC for. I have a RTX 4090 and some wireless peripheral for some casual single player gaming. Other I'm on mouse and keyboard for competitive gaming with a triple monitor setup at a 1440p 240hz
@Hentai_Akuma My 4090 looks spectacular on my s95b, as does my ps5, and xbox series x, going thru my onkyo rz50 receiver 4k 120. I also have a qn90b in the same room for my sim rig monitor 50 inch. Bloatware, LOL. I also have an lg C6 3d tv from 2016. Theres no bloatware if you don't use it, kids...
Great review. S95C was unSamsung good! But, I still hate its operating system. Samsung’s software division sucks a BIG TIME. Samsung has a great hardware, and it always had great hardware. But, the software always and still sucks.
Awesome Review! I choose the LG G3 in the end when comparing the S95C and G3 in person. They are both excellent tvs. I preferred the video Processing, TV OS, gaming features, remote, and natural looking bright colors of the G3. Otherwise competition brought consumers 2 great tvs.🎉🎉
I agree with most of that. G3 has some issues with gaming though. Game mode is much dimmer than other picture presents and it if you use other picture modes you have to engage ALLM and you cannot use HGIG. Last years LG's did gaming better.

Curious again. I know you would pick the 900B over the s95c, BUT what about the 900b in the 65 inch compared to the s95c in a 65 inch. Some reviews say 8k is worth it in the larger sizes but not 65 inch and that the s95c is better in the 65 inch over the 900b 8k. Thoughts?
We cannot comment on longterm burn-in concerns or lack thereof due to us having only a limited number of weeks with the display (which has already been returned to the manufacturer following the conclusion of this review). We rarely get to keep TVs for more than 90 days as samples are hard to come by. The TVs we've chosen to make our own have not had any burn-in issues, but they're also LED-based models.
Thanks! Samsung was on for release but give it to Sony they didn't push out product just to make a show deadline which was a first. Nothing out there to make me jump for a new OLED and I do look!
Appreciate you watching as always Lonnie, and yes, if I were on the market for a new OLED in 2023 I'd wait until ALL the new models were out and on the market before making any final decisions.
Sony is coming to market this year WAY later than they should be and they know that's a problem that they absolutley need to get on top of and correct for next year when their 2024 lineup rolls out, but there is some actual method to their madness there in doing that. Having that extra time to tweak and fine-tune their software and their default settings/levels gives them a big advantage over companies like Samsung that went to market months earlier. It allows them the ability to make certain that their new products are performing at the absolute top of their game. This is part of what allows them to be so incredibly well reviewed by everyone when they finally do come out. Case in point, their new X93L mini-LED that is just now shipping and getting into reviewer's hands this week. People are absolutely blown away by what they are seeing with it. Yes, Sony is late to market this year, but fortunately for them, they CLEARLY made good use of all that extra time. Needless to say, the customers that elected to wait, will unquestionably be very glad they did.
Love the channel but I’m sensing some LG bias and I get it. I was the same but I had a C2 and traded it in for the S95B and I would never go back. 77 inch S95C is will be mine for Black Friday.

Now I get the build quality and to an extent the upscaling wasn’t as good but 4K picture for 4K picture I had the S95B by a landslide. I just saw the G3 though so it may be better than everything but the game mode is broken.
@@rideintothesun8106 just saw the G3 and it has the most 3D picture I’ve ever seen. Reviews just say the gaming isn’t as good so I’d want to test that first but as far as picture quality goes it’s beautiful
@@TheGhostofMississippi I have a G3, HGIG highlights pop like crazy, it looks so 3D for some games. Only problem is color boost is deactivated in game mode, causing high luminance colors to be dimmer/less saturated compared to the other picture presets. You can use FMM and DTM off to get something similar to HGIG with color boost on but highlights still don’t look as clean and detailed as HGIG.
Thank you for posting this video. I was struggling to really understand exactly why this new flagship QD OLED TV from Samsung just wasn't living up to the early hype surrounding it and why it wasn't selling anywhere even NEAR the levels it was expected to sell at. Now I think I finally understand why. Samsung does some things really, really well on their TVs for sure, but at the exact same time they also do a LOT of things just incredibly poorly, as well - things that they really should have already fixed and corrected by now (mid-way through 2023). I think I understand why so many people are opting for the LG (for gaming) and Sony (for TV and movies) offerings instead. Unless you personally take steps to correct it, Samsung's default color presentation is just atrocious in most instances and their TizenOS is still an absolute mess. No wonder so many of their previous customers are no going elsewhere this year. Can't say that I blame them. For what Samsung charges for the S95C they clearly could have and should have done a way better job with the execution on this model.

interesting the omittance of Dolby Vision. Appreciate the review as always, i currently own a Sony, an LG, and a Samsung, and they all have their plusses and minuses.
I have seen the 77 s90c for £2100 here in the uk, which uses the second gen qled panel, better burn in etc. G2 77 is £2750, c2 77 is £2250 and g3 77 is over £4000. I will be using the tv for pc windows 11 auto hdr gaming and some movie viewing, and soke occasionall sports and general tv viewing and 1080p anime.
As a big 4K Blu-ray movie fan & collector, Samsungs lack of Dolby Vision on its QD-OLEDs make them a big no-no for me. I went for the Sony A95K over the S95B. It’ll be the same with the A95L over the S95C. Yes the Sonys are more expensive but I’m ok with that. You get what you pay for.
It's got a beautiful profile for people like me that have no choice but the mount it on a wall (fire place in my case). They just need to figure out a no-gap wall mount like the Gallery series or the Frame.

Here in the UK the S95C prices are 55" £2,699, 65" £3,599, 77" £5,099. That is a lot of money for any brand of TV, and if it has the same bent frame issues that the S95B suffered from i will be keeping well away from it. If i was investing this sort of money and wanted a large screen then i would choose a projector. Why pay for an often very poor operating system and speakers when all you want is the best image available for your money. Just add a good 4K Blu-Ray player and a TV box of your choice and you will have a far better experience.
@@zachariahadams The latest TV's are like cars, they are designed to last until the warranty expires. Buyers in the US must have deeper pockets than most other countries, or is it we buy what we can afford?
The TV to avoid. Call any company that handles tv repairs and replacement. 90% oled replacements are Samsung. Plus a/v decoding chipset and software that handles all that is pre alpha stage. They added a lot of brightness without adding the heavy heatsink it needs, combine that with Samsung QC. Same ish diff toilet.
@AndrewRobinson.--. I am a Samsung S95c owner and to me picture quality looks the same on both these picture modes. However I have lately noticed motion smoothing looks difference between the two modes. Have you noticed this? I prefer to have motion smoothing on unlike you recommend off. However I have both sliders set at zero

We have discussed whether or not to bring the Apple Vision Pro to the channel. I am very curious but also have concerns that we may discuss if and when we review that product.
Short answer NO. Long answer; between the bent panel, premature burn in, removing or nerfing of features with firmware updates, atrocious software, much shorter warranty, no heatsink on the back to properly handle high nits, no Dolby vision, the answer is still NO. It look nice when you unbox it and play around with it for a few hours. Living with it for the next few YEARS is an entirely different proposition.
Oh, it gets much better than even that with Samsung. If you ever want to have some fun sometime, Google up an article by searching the key words "Samsung" and "TV BLOCK". That one is certainly an eye opener, to say the least!
I recently purchased the s95c. When the TV is on the one connect box makes a high pitched buzzing noise. And when its switched off the noise changes more to a hum. Does anybody out there with this TV have a noisy box?
I have a 2019 Samsung tv and I found tizen pretty snappy just as fast as my 2020 Sony x900h. So I can’t imagine the 2023 being slow unless there’s so many ads now it slows it down?
@@rxs87 I'll summarize the user experience for you so that you have a pretty good idea about what issues you should expect. Moving between menus and apps is sluggish and noticeably slow. This lag can cause you to push the wrong button at the wrong time and the wrong action would occur (wrong app, wrong menu option, ..etc). The main screen is cluttery and isn't clean. There are things you can do to improve the situation but you can't control the entire main screen content. For example, you can arrange your quick apps and content sources on the main screen, but you have a limited number of apps that you can make permanent on the main screen. Everything else can only be accessible from the apps store (yes that's your only second choice). Even when you get to the apps store, you have to jump through 2 or 3 screens to get to your apps. I have multiple streaming & music apps that I use almost everyday. This thing is a pain the butt. When you want to switch between different HDMI sources, it takes a couple seconds before the content would appear on the screen. I have a satellite receiver and most of the time the TV wouldn't receive the signal or show the content which forces me to restart the TV (hold the power button for 20secs until it restarts). A lot of times the TV would switch the audio source from my home theater's AVR to the TV by itself. I have to go to the setting and tinker with the audio output settings until it diverts the sound to the AVR. The other issue is that the operating system isn't consistent across different modern Samsung TVs. For example, for the 65" model that I have, I can access the settings menu without exiting whatever content I'm watching which a) help see the effect of adjusting the video settings, b) preserve the content streaming process. However, on the 85" I have, whenever I enter the settings menu, the TV would exit the streaming content. This is very annoying and bothersome. In some sports streaming apps, this would cause the stream to get interrupted and I'd have to find and start the stream again! Very very annoying. Finally, the remote control app is the worst you'll see and its modeled after the TV's operating system itself in its issues. It's like it was designed to be annoying. Every time you open the remote control app, a useless main screen would open where you'd have to choose which TV you want to control. Then when you click on the TV you want to control, the app would become unresponsive for a few seconds until a useless authorization message comes up on the TV that would ask you if you want to allow YOUR phone to control YOUR TV, and this will happen EVERY TIME you open the remote control app. The lead time between opening the remote control app and actually starting to do something useful on the TV is at least 10 seconds (best case). Overall it's not a pleasant operating system to work with at all.

Unboxed the 77" S95C with the help of my wife. She forgot she had just put lotion on her hands (ya I know no white gloves, she says the TV slips when she wears them). Any way, she forgot about the freshly put lotion on her hands and when I saw hazy hand marks on the TV I asked her WTH. She said oops I forgot I had hand lotion on. Been trying to wipe them with a microfiber cloth for 30 minutes, used it damp, heated up the mf cloth, tried circular, back and forth. Not a difference. Those marks seem like the chemicals in the lotion have reacted or attached to the anti glare coating. Emailed Samsung. Not sure what else I can try to use on the screen to get rid of them. Sigh
Damn you're probably out of luck. Panels used on these high end TVs are super sensitive to oils (such as those on human hands), and lotion is basically a highly concentrated version of that. I'd recommend calling a specialty tech shop or Best Buy or something to see if there's anything they can apply to it to eliminate the marks. But yeah that's rough. If my wife did that I'd momentarily consider divorce lol. These things ain't cheap!

@@kylebocanegra5948 opened a case with Samsung. It's weird that even my own hand prints are not coming off and I wash my hands every time in warm water with soap before I touch the TV. Samsung going to send a tech out to see what is going on.
Andrew, I've read that 900b 8k is better in the larger size models. NOT in 65 inch model. SO, since I only have room for a 65 inch tv, which would you suggest, s95c or 900b 8k? Mainly dark room viewing and no gaming.

Especially with something like televisions, how do you know that reviews samples supplied by the manufacture are not “golden samples “. Obviously, even if it was a golden sample, it could improve the bad OS or the upscaling, but it could miss represent the typical out-of-the-box color accuracy. Do you just have to assume that everyone is operating in good faith? Or, do you assume that everyone is putting their best foot forward? I know sometimes you buy retail versions but when the review sample is not a retail version, is there ever any concern that it may not accurately represent what the average consumer might experience out of the box?
Seems 2nd gen is much improved. That's why I am not an early adopter of 1st gen tech. If the Samsung S95C is this accurate maybe the Sony A95L won't be worth the "Sony tax" for accuracy and processing. Time will tell. But, S95C in 77" is on my radar. Thanks for the detailed review. 👍
Keep in mind here that those that have already seen both the S95C and the new A95L have all said that the A95L is far and away the better TV across the board. Yes, you often pay a little more for the Sonys, that's often the case, but the old saying usually does turn out to be true: You get what you pay for!
@@PedroMartins-yv1lv Sony's are a LOT more price competitive than most people realize. Now, that will vary from model to model, of course, but this idea that Sonys are way overpriced just isn't true. A lot of people compare them to absolute garbage TVs from brands with horrible reputations for both quality and reliability and then complain that Sony's are overpriced. But then they also admit that Sonys have far fewer problems and last YEARS longer on average without having to be serviced or repaired. The old saying really is true here: You get what you pay for!

well....depends. If using in a bright room the X95J will perform very well. If you watch mostly at night or in a light controlled dark room, OLED is hard to beat. If you watch mostly movies, Sony is good choice. If video gaming, the S95C would give you the most beautiful colors you'll see.

The 75inches x95j that i bought has 1k price differences from 65 inches s95c so i think it is not the right choice to buy the s95c now. i can wait till next year to buy the cheapest s95c to replace my lg c9 for my bedroom. Are you going to buy a s95c too? I know the colors is brillant in s95c but never seem in person. The 77 inches of s95c is just too expensive for me now even though i really want one. And i heard sony has better processor than samsung in upscaling especially in large sizes.
the colors are extremely better with Samsung vs LG ..... the main advantage of LG is that they are easy to set up with a good filmmaker mode and they have an 83 inch model. If you are into anime , animation or cartoons you would be crazy to not get the Samsung as the colors are jaw dropping.
There's a misconception that just because something is colourful, that oversaturated colours objectively make it look better. The animators chose specific colours that make things look natural in the context of the world it is representing, and you get to see that in more accurate modes. You also get a bigger RANGE of colours when everything isn't just pushed to its extremities.
Several other reviewers out there that have already seen the G3, the S95C and the A95L in person have all said that the A95L is head and shoulders above the competition at just about every level. Sony is widening out the gap between them and their competition this year at the top of their lineup - the one that they opened up last year with the A95K. The early talk already is that Sony will likely win the 2023 "King of TV" shootout in the first week of August as the A95L is just so far out in front of the G3 and the S95C this year on color volume, image processing and motion handling with their newest update of the XR Cognitive processor. If Sony can pull it off, and there is every indication now that they will, that will be their fifth "King of TV" win in a row for their flagship TV. If you are LG or Samsung, you just know that's going to sting.
I think the question of the day should be ,why dont you just upgrade to a new phone ? There have been several reviews where your old outdated phone has caused an issue. Not hateing, I was rocking my Note 10 until about a month ago.
Interesting you said LG handles near-black better. Every other review says the opposite. I know this is not a technical channel but if we’re going to mention any dynamic metadata content, I think we have to compare to base HDR10 and compare the sets in their own capabilities. Especially TVs that hit over 1000 nits. The dynamic tone mapping is not necessary and base HDR10 would usually look better.
In our testing using an HDR pattern generator the Samsung appears to do just a little bit worse -- contrast wise -- when delineating greyscale patters as you near true black compared to our measurements of LG or Sony displays. Not saying it's a night and day difference, but there does appear to be a difference. Calibration can correct for this, but on its own (as in out of the box), Samsung crushes blacks more than LG or Sony in our experience.

Any white OLED owner will tell you their immediate reaction to Samsung S90/95x is that they’re “not black” and at first I thought this was a trait of the QD panel itself but it’s nowhere near as bad with the Sony A95K and I imagine not A95L either. Maybe it’s the addition of heat dissipation either giving a higher perceived contrast from brighter specular detail, I’m not sure. But you are absolutely correct.
@@andrewrobinsonreviews Very true. Also, keep in mind here that Sony's new flagship QD OLED, the A95L, is going to be a Master Series TV. What that means is that it will have three key standout features/benefits: 1.) Panels are hand-picked off of the production line as being the "best of the best"/most flawless panel possible 2.) Pre-calibrated by Sony technicians at the factory before being put in the box so as to get the TV as close to a perfectly accurate, reference-level color spec as possible 3.) A premium, light-up, motion sensing remote that's easy to see and use in pitch-black rooms. With the S95C you have to have it calibrated to have any shot at getting the colors the TV produces to be anything even close to accurate or natural looking. Not only do the Sony TVs pretty much nail color accuracy right out of the box across their entire product line, on their Master Series TVs they are pre-calibrated for you already, before they ever even leave the factory.

Hi Andrew. Need your advice please. I can get the qn900B 85"' for £4000, the same as the x95l or a refurbished 77" s95c for £4200. Which would you pick, as you said previously you would take the x95l over the qn900b but you prefer the 8k upscaling for 85"? Really wanted an oled but want 85" but will sacrifice some size if needed. Many thanks
What? 4k only? I thought 8k was a latest rage. About the analog audio issue? A DAC could be used between the optical out and the analog audio device in question. I had to do that a few years ago.

Sharing my experience here.
I am not a TV technology buff... went to store to buy the tv yesterday. Compared C3 and s95c with the same videos on youtube 4k settings, both connected to the same wifi.
Actually I went to the store with c3 oled in my mind. But when i compared them side to side i found s95c had better details and colour, depths levels.
Ordered s95c then and there.
Sony tvs were 20% pricier than these both tvs.
I just got the 65" S95C because:
NextGen TV just was rolled out in our market
Samsung has a sale on their high end OLEDs and Q series soundbars
My only TV was a 6 year old UN7100 50" and... it's football season.
The difference moving from edge lit 4K non-HDR LCD is, quite frankly, stunning. There is some HDR10+ sample content on TH-cam which was captivating (the night scene of a Tokyo city street).
I use mine set in Film Maker mode.

I own the S95C 77", S95B 65", Sony A95K 65", A80J 55", and the LGC1 48" (for gaming), I love all my sets, and all have their positives and negatives, thats why I have so many, and after calibration, tweaking settings in service menus, downloading Color App for LG, the S95C is by far (except for the S95B, and A95K which aren't too far behind), the best out the bunch, DV is a joke if you know how to calibrate, you can actually attain a way better picture. I had the G3 for a week, I just had to see the PQ after calibration, and the S95C still had a better overall picture, returned it to BB.
I now await the Sony A95L to see how that fairs...

9:18 As someone with a QN90B I fully agree. The ads and, overall, poor UX makes me recommend everyone to skip Samsung TVs until they figure out their menus. I mean, at least an "input" button is something every TV should have. ADs cannot be fully disable without messing with router ad-blockers and that alone is a no-go for me no matter how good the panel may be.
This is a great tv without question and I almost waited for it as I really like Samsung and already own the QN90B from last year. No Dolby Vision is really a non issue but in the end I got such a great deal on a 77” LG G2(with gaming playing the biggest deciding factor) I jumped on it and have absolutely no regrets. Although as far as the S95C goes if the dimming is as aggressive as you say I’d definitely be going into the service menu and turning it all off(not recommended for the average user) and enjoying the tv from there.
Thanks for a well balanced, honest review. Not on top of my new tv list since Im not a Samsung reliability fan(only tv that ever broke on me was a Samsung LED years ago) . Cant wait till the Sony A95L arrives and you review it. Lots of old dvd concerts in my collection so Sony upscaling excellence puts the brand at top of my list.
If you want to enjoy legacy content Samsung would be near the bottom of my list both in terms of scaling as well as connection options/support.
It sucks that Samsung doesn’t have Dolby vision but at the same times Samsungs HDR is just as comparable to Dolby Vision when you out the G3 and S95C side by side you can’t even tell the difference. Tizen is frustrating so I suggest Apple TV but I don’t like webOS either so. While G3 being mountable only should be an issue because you pay $100 extra for stand no one complains about that one.
Hi Andrew, I am with you. I enjoy my 85" QN900B very much and I returned a S95C 77" after 2 days of use. My QN900B has only 50-60 hours on since I use it for movie watching only along with my Z9K on upstairs. It has been disconnected from the wifi since day one, so the firmware is still on 1084 which is crazy bright. The s95C looked amazing in dark scene especially when stars and lights of houses were presented, but black crushed sometimes. The resolution looks higher than it is since the contrast is perfect. Unfortuntely, when it comes to specular highlights on bright scenes , the S95C is no match to the 8k Qled which I enjoy the most according to the contents I watch. For example, the details of the petals of a flower. Most importantly, no matter how advance the QD-OLED is, each pixel is a little bulb can only takes so much heat and eventually the bulb will degrade over time only faster the brighter they get.
Got the 65” C2 a months ago and it’s amazing. Granted I am coming from my roommates TCL or Vizio 55” 4K LCD. But the jump in everything is so amazing. Playing the Deadspace remake was an awesome experience.
Love the comments; makes one think we’re discussing “sound,” and what speakers are better. Just as subjective and based on the viewer.
I’m loving my 77” LG C2 but not closed minded to better options as the picture quality between all three of these brands high-end models are great, and unless you have them side by side in a room, I doubt the average viewer would be unhappy with an S95C, Sony equivalent, or C2/G3 etc. Usage would be the most determinant factor on what’s most appropriate for someone.

Hello and greetings from Vegas! First, thank you to you and Kristi for the wonderful job you both do in reviewing the gear and producing your TH-cam content. This review's timing is auspicious since I just had my Samsung 82" go down with a power supply issue. Your review was great but the issue for me is one of price. In general most of the TVs you all review tend to be in the $3K-6K range and thus not realistically attainable for most mortals. If I may make a suggestion (perhaps even a challenge), could you please consider this for a worthwhile video: A three way, budget big screen shoot out! Find 3 TVs, 80-85", 4k@60 models for less than $2500... and compare, contrast and do all the things you'd normally do for a review. I know I would find the results stimulating and something I could actually use in a real world buying scenario. I think a vast majority of other subscribers would find it illuminating as well. Thank you.
My 77” S95C will arrive in a few days with their best soundbar system, and I will drive it with my Apple TV 4K box. It’s replacing my old 65” Sony 4K that I bought 10 years ago before HDR. I hope we like this OLED because we won’t upgrade again for another 10 years.
How do you like it? Watch out for burn-in issues. Don't let your TV run on the same channel for extended hours. Have you bought a soundbar or you still need suggestions?
@@KhaledTheSaudiHawkII Thanks. I absolutely LOVE this Samsung OLED 77” S95C. We have it turned on for only 2 or 3 hours a day in the evening. We don’t have TV channels, so no news displays with burn-in ribbons scrolling across the bottom. We don’t watch sports, so no fixed sports score graphics on the screen. We watch streamed movies, documentaries, TH-cam, concerts, and stage plays. I am probably overly careful about burn-in. We watch everything in filmmaker mode, which is unbelievably gorgeous and lifelike. The only problem with this TV isn’t the TV but the content available. This TV can magnificently display 4K, HDR, and 60 fps, but most content out there is not up to that standard. As a result, this TV is almost overkill, and an 8K TV definitely would be overkill for a long time to come. We have a long way to go before all content will be in 4K and HDR, much less 8K. But this TV does its best to upscale HD. The best content for this TV I have found are the artistic HDR videos on TH-cam by Jacob & Katie Schwartz. Absolutely stunning! That’s what I use to show off this TV to visitors. The Samsung S990C Sound system (I hope I have the model # correct) is outstanding surround sound and has many modes to make the best of whatever audio content we are streaming. I can also stream music by WiFi from my phone to the sound system with the TV off. The screen saver video on Apple TV has some of the highest quality 4K HDR content out there! Sometimes I just watch the screen saver videos of scenery because they are so crisp and spectacular! I highly recommend this TV and sound system, but don’t be disappointed when most video content available does not live up to the amazing display capabilities of this TV.
Great review, thanks. Was once a loyal Samsung customer but not recently. Still happy with both my Sony A80J and LG C1. Sony’s QD prices are pretty insane. I’ll wait a while before I jump on the QD-OLED wagon and am very interested in what the new TCL QM8 will offer. Hopefully you’ll be getting a QM8 to review soon.
When buying a TV at this price i want to check of most boxes and lack of Dolby Vision is annoying at this price point. Dealbreaker when the competition is so good.

I love that he shares my opinion on the 900B. I think 8k TV's are amazing especially when they get discounted to more reasonable prices.
8k TVs are a waste of money currently.
8k at the distance you would sit is pretty much useless over 4k. I doubt many would be able to tell the difference between the two unless they got real close.

@@42degrees86 Sure, but mini-led is very close in overall black levels and the blooming issue is something I don't see in 99.5% of real world content (not some white box moving across a black screen). I game more than I watch movies and shows, and I have no need to take any burn-in precautions. Overall I think it depends on your use case.

I have been waiting to hear your take on the S95C. I have to agree with Kristi, Samsung colors especially skin tone have always seemed off and distracting to me, even on the S95B. It is great to see this is improved with the S95C. Just waiting now to see how the A95L turns out.
A95L is going to be the very best 4K hands down and everyone knows It , only problem Is It'll be $1000 extra.
Think the tech is cool although wouldn't jump from my C1 yet. Lack of Dolby Vision still is annoying and would make me go elsewhere.
The lack of Dolby Vision is going to be a sticking point for a lot of customers when considering ANY Samsung TV as they do not support it on a whole.

Well, I have wondered since your review of the S95B if you guy got a bad unit or if the time period you had with it was while they had a bad version of the firmware out for it because I have had the S95B for the past year and never had the same complaints with it you had and feel everything you said about the S95C applies to the S95B. Also the LG C3 is the esact same TV as the C2 was lasy year and is almost not even worth reviewing. Luminance levels and the PQ-EOTF curve measure exactly the same but the G3 (so long as it's the 55", 65" or 77") has the new MLA (Micro Lens Array) tech and is much brighter than last year's G2 and is defiantly worth getting in for a review. As for the A95L, I haven't seen it yet, I'm pretty sure not too many people outside of Sony have, but I can't wait to get it into the store to see it.

The dimming is a no-go. Disabling ABL is also no option for warranty purposes.
Will stick with LED for the next years until OLED matures and can keep its brightness without dimming down.
Its supposed to dim, that is how they keep the display safe. It dims on static picture that is not moving after a certain time. Not just in general, people need to stop assuming and find out them selves. All Oleds are supposed to do this to lessen burn in. Even LG and Sony's.
7:50 My biggest pet peeve for TVs is crushed blacks. Shadow detail is everything. I do wish Panasonic was in the U.S. as they do the best with this.
The 2023 85" Samsung QN900C 8K TV is the one I am most interested in, mostly because of the supposedly excellent 8K up-scaling that wasn't present on the 2022 QN900B
I have two Hisense TVs now. 55U8G and 65U8H. The 65U8H is the first TV I've owned that did not require a sound bar or AVR to have audio match the visuals. I bought both via Amazon on sale: $800 for the 55U8G and $750 for the 65U8H. Seeing the Samsung price point $3000+, there is no way LG, SONY or Samsung are worth that price premium.
I have the 55U8H and it performs amazingly with all the features a smart tv can have… the price puts all to shame.
I Have The S95B, And Not A Fan When It Comes To The CPU/ OPPERATING SYSTEM NOT @ ALL! Probably The Best Picture Quality When It Comes To 📺 I Had In My Home, But I'm Waiting For The View On The New Sony This Year. Again... The Samsung S95B Cpu Ect.Ect Doesn't Fair Well With eArc Avr ( I Have The Denon AVRX6700H!) Like It Did On My LG CX!

I don't care what anybody says the s95c being my first OLED is the best TV I've ever owned compared to the q60t QLED it replaced. I would have loved to have the 77 inch but I didn't have an extra $5,000 so got the 65 inch.

What?? The difference between the 65" and 77" was $5k?? I got my 65S95 for $2,100 and the 77S95C for $3k. Granted that is in Saudi Arabia, not in the states.
We have the samsung 8k Qled and the upscaling fir movies ect is incredable,however for Football ie Soccer if the signal is not 4k its a disaster as the ball disapeers when it clashes with the crowd in the background. Otherwise love the TV.

I will admit that is one sexy tv. But I had a really bad experience from Samsung tv’s in the past, even tho those were the plasma days of TVs.
The lack of Dolby Vision is just irritating at this point and I can’t stand their bloat wear and their settings menu.
I don’t know about you but to me Samsung makes it difficult at times when playing with their settings. I don’t like it.
But one thing you said that I never thought about. That 8k is the best 4k out. After you broke it down it made a lot of sense. Just wish the price tags of 8k would come down some.
I used to buy nothing but Samsung but my last purchase was the Sony Bravia 950H which I enjoy immensely. With other brands stepping up and Samsung glitching I think they have lost their automatic top standing. What were they thinking? Thank you Andrew and Kristi for another great review.

I'm with you on 8k TVs. I've had a QN900A 85" for nearly two years now and have it a room where I sit quite close to it actually, about 5-10ft or so and man is it pretty. It really upscales content great. I rewatched Justified on it and many does it upscale older HD content really nicely, it adds this really unique sharpness to it. It does also upscale/enhance the noise, but it's worth it. Older content really feels higher res to me in a way I haven't seen on my 85" QN90A, previous LG 65" OLED Wallpaper tv, etc.
I know its not OLED, but how does it compare to Sony X95K ? (or X95L for that matter) do we now need OLED again, or is the miniLED still the way to go ?

I'm not seeing reviewers mention that the LG offers a 5 year warranty on the panel of the G series OLED. That could be a big selling point for people worried about burn in or panel malfunctions.

Kind of a weird thought, but, wether you’re a fan or a hater of Apple, you have to agree, there is no other operating system on the market for TVs that’s as good as AppleTV4K. Period. If you’re using Tyzen, or even LGs OS, you need counseling honestly. That being said, I hate the one connect box. I had two of them replaced within the first year because of internal problems. And I don’t need my TV to be paper thin. Especially when it’s 70+ inches. It’s good that there’s more competition in the OLED market, competition is great for consumers, but Samsung has a lot to work on, and I mean a lot.

AppleTVs absolutely rock! I put them above GoogleTV at this point, though GTV has gotten crazy good in recent years. TIZEN or webOS make me want to punch the wall sometimes and don't even get me started on whatever the hell VIZIO continues to push.

If I were in the market for an OLED today, the LG G3 77in would easily be my choice. This panel when professionally ISF calibrated is absolutely stunning and it has DOLBY VISION, quite ridiculous that the Samsung QD-OLEDs do not.
I have the G3, and the S95C and DV does not make a difference whatsoever.

Funny that you just released the review as I was just able to spend half an hour with an unlocked 55" model in store yesterday. I liked the picture, the way it handled light in the room (not being pitch black but a very dark grey), the flat reflections rather than wibbly wobbly reflections of LG panels etc. of the S95B already. I always thought the Samsung was more realistic looking / more plasma-like than what LG produces (as well as everyone using LG panels).
What really impressed me about the S95C was the black frame insertion. At 50 Hz it at least doesn't introduce any artificial smoothing if I don't want it, though the image flickers at a seizure inducing level, so... meh. However using 24p content, regardless of HDR or not, it is bloody brilliant. The flickering is reduced to totally acceptable levels, even in bright scenes, where the S95B struggled. Also, the brightness seems pretty high for BFI. Motion is however improved, watching scenes from LotR looked quite good.
Basically, this is the very first TV since the end of plasma that I consider worth getting. Sadly, the S95B has gotten really affordable, but the S95C is anything but, especially considering the lack of Dolby Vision, which is still a big setback to me (not because HDR10+ sucks, it doesn't, but what is the point of HDR10+ when you don't have any content?) and as you mentioned Tizen, which is still god awful. Sadly, the A95L will be even more expensive (and kind of ugly... those two nostrils Sony always puts on their TVs!), but when you factor in the cost of an Apple TV 4K in order to fix the Samsung...
The S90C could be an alternative, however the smaller sizes use the old panels from the S95B until they run out of them, but most likely even then the performance will be limited to the models with lesser panels. So the only option is the 77", but we don't know if that one is "unlocked" or if they tried to keep all S90C on one level. Samsung being Samsung, I guess.
Oh and one more thing: I believe the black crush is a technical limitation with all OLED screens, just that some deal with issues around near black by crushing blacks, and others by boosting blacks.
I don't know, but I would assume the Sony will be even better. Same panel with Sony processing which has a pretty solid reputation.
I thought only Panasonic is doing their own processing while every other company basically has the same picture? But i might be missinformed

Andrew is 100% on how terrible the Samsung Tizen operating system is. There are some great gaming features that many TV manufacturers do not have, but it is so slow and takes too much effort to navigate that it's frustrating. I already had an LG OLED C2 in the house when I picked up a Samsung QN90B. The picture on the Samsung was gorgeous, but the software aggravated me so much that I returned it for a 2nd C2 in the same size.

Use a Roku and enjoy the superior image on the Samsung. If the OS is that bad on the 77" S95C I ordered, I'll get a $30 Roku and call it a day.

Although I like it the best, the movie mode in my Samsung 4K TV is too yellow. My TV was also too red with regards to skin tones. I changed one of the settings to all the way on the green side.
Because of the bloatware alone, I'll avoid this TV and settle with a LG G3 as my gaming TV which I already prepared a PC for. I have a RTX 4090 and some wireless peripheral for some casual single player gaming. Other I'm on mouse and keyboard for competitive gaming with a triple monitor setup at a 1440p 240hz
@Hentai_Akuma My 4090 looks spectacular on my s95b, as does my ps5, and xbox series x, going thru my onkyo rz50 receiver 4k 120. I also have a qn90b in the same room for my sim rig monitor 50 inch. Bloatware, LOL. I also have an lg C6 3d tv from 2016. Theres no bloatware if you don't use it, kids...
Great review. S95C was unSamsung good! But, I still hate its operating system. Samsung’s software division sucks a BIG TIME. Samsung has a great hardware, and it always had great hardware. But, the software always and still sucks.
Their software/OS has always been a sticking point for me too.
Awesome Review! I choose the LG G3 in the end when comparing the S95C and G3 in person. They are both excellent tvs. I preferred the video Processing, TV OS, gaming features, remote, and natural looking bright colors of the G3. Otherwise competition brought consumers 2 great tvs.🎉🎉
I agree with most of that. G3 has some issues with gaming though. Game mode is much dimmer than other picture presents and it if you use other picture modes you have to engage ALLM and you cannot use HGIG. Last years LG's did gaming better.

Curious again. I know you would pick the 900B over the s95c, BUT what about the 900b in the 65 inch compared to the s95c in a 65 inch. Some reviews say 8k is worth it in the larger sizes but not 65 inch and that the s95c is better in the 65 inch over the 900b 8k. Thoughts?

We cannot comment on longterm burn-in concerns or lack thereof due to us having only a limited number of weeks with the display (which has already been returned to the manufacturer following the conclusion of this review). We rarely get to keep TVs for more than 90 days as samples are hard to come by. The TVs we've chosen to make our own have not had any burn-in issues, but they're also LED-based models.

Appreciate you watching as always Lonnie, and yes, if I were on the market for a new OLED in 2023 I'd wait until ALL the new models were out and on the market before making any final decisions.
Sony is coming to market this year WAY later than they should be and they know that's a problem that they absolutley need to get on top of and correct for next year when their 2024 lineup rolls out, but there is some actual method to their madness there in doing that. Having that extra time to tweak and fine-tune their software and their default settings/levels gives them a big advantage over companies like Samsung that went to market months earlier. It allows them the ability to make certain that their new products are performing at the absolute top of their game. This is part of what allows them to be so incredibly well reviewed by everyone when they finally do come out. Case in point, their new X93L mini-LED that is just now shipping and getting into reviewer's hands this week. People are absolutely blown away by what they are seeing with it. Yes, Sony is late to market this year, but fortunately for them, they CLEARLY made good use of all that extra time. Needless to say, the customers that elected to wait, will unquestionably be very glad they did.

Love the channel but I’m sensing some LG bias and I get it. I was the same but I had a C2 and traded it in for the S95B and I would never go back. 77 inch S95C is will be mine for Black Friday.
You sense an LG bias? Not sure what's giving you that impression, as I am almost as equally frustrated by LG as I am by Samsung most days.

LG C2 is a not a fair comparison. At miminum maybe a LG G2. Apparently, the LG G3 blows away the LG G2. I will be waiting for the LG G3 comparison.

@@TheGhostofMississippi I have a G3, HGIG highlights pop like crazy, it looks so 3D for some games. Only problem is color boost is deactivated in game mode, causing high luminance colors to be dimmer/less saturated compared to the other picture presets.
You can use FMM and DTM off to get something similar to HGIG with color boost on but highlights still don’t look as clean and detailed as HGIG.
Thank you for posting this video. I was struggling to really understand exactly why this new flagship QD OLED TV from Samsung just wasn't living up to the early hype surrounding it and why it wasn't selling anywhere even NEAR the levels it was expected to sell at. Now I think I finally understand why. Samsung does some things really, really well on their TVs for sure, but at the exact same time they also do a LOT of things just incredibly poorly, as well - things that they really should have already fixed and corrected by now (mid-way through 2023). I think I understand why so many people are opting for the LG (for gaming) and Sony (for TV and movies) offerings instead. Unless you personally take steps to correct it, Samsung's default color presentation is just atrocious in most instances and their TizenOS is still an absolute mess. No wonder so many of their previous customers are no going elsewhere this year. Can't say that I blame them. For what Samsung charges for the S95C they clearly could have and should have done a way better job with the execution on this model.
The s90C is very close to the s95C besides the peak brightness. S90C would’ve been a better review comparable to to a c2/c3

I have seen the 77 s90c for £2100 here in the uk, which uses the second gen qled panel, better burn in etc.
G2 77 is £2750, c2 77 is £2250 and g3 77 is over £4000.
I will be using the tv for pc windows 11 auto hdr gaming and some movie viewing, and soke occasionall sports and general tv viewing and 1080p anime.
As a big 4K Blu-ray movie fan & collector, Samsungs lack of Dolby Vision on its QD-OLEDs make them a big no-no for me. I went for the Sony A95K over the S95B. It’ll be the same with the A95L over the S95C. Yes the Sonys are more expensive but I’m ok with that. You get what you pay for.
It's got a beautiful profile for people like me that have no choice but the mount it on a wall (fire place in my case). They just need to figure out a no-gap wall mount like the Gallery series or the Frame.
The no-gap mount for the Frame isn't great IMHO. Does it work? Yes. Could it be designed better? Yes.

Here in the UK the S95C prices are 55" £2,699, 65" £3,599, 77" £5,099.
That is a lot of money for any brand of TV, and if it has the same bent frame issues that the S95B suffered from
i will be keeping well away from it.
If i was investing this sort of money and wanted a large screen then i would choose a projector.
Why pay for an often very poor operating system and speakers when all you want is the best image
available for your money.
Just add a good 4K Blu-Ray player and a TV box of your choice and you will have a far better experience.

The TV to avoid. Call any company that handles tv repairs and replacement. 90% oled replacements are Samsung. Plus a/v decoding chipset and software that handles all that is pre alpha stage. They added a lot of brightness without adding the heavy heatsink it needs, combine that with Samsung QC. Same ish diff toilet.
You say filmmaker and movie mode look different to you? I was told if the values are the same in both modes the picture would look the same

However I have lately noticed motion smoothing looks difference between the two modes. Have you noticed this? I prefer to have motion smoothing on unlike you recommend off. However I have both sliders set at zero

Short answer NO.
Long answer; between the bent panel, premature burn in, removing or nerfing of features with firmware updates, atrocious software, much shorter warranty, no heatsink on the back to properly handle high nits, no Dolby vision, the answer is still NO.
It look nice when you unbox it and play around with it for a few hours. Living with it for the next few YEARS is an entirely different proposition.
Oh, it gets much better than even that with Samsung. If you ever want to have some fun sometime, Google up an article by searching the key words "Samsung" and "TV BLOCK". That one is certainly an eye opener, to say the least!

I have a 2019 Samsung tv and I found tizen pretty snappy just as fast as my 2020 Sony x900h. So I can’t imagine the 2023 being slow unless there’s so many ads now it slows it down?
Trust me it's bad. Really, really bad. I have multiple Samsung TVs from 2021, 2022 and 2023 and the operating system is just horrible.

@@rxs87 I'll summarize the user experience for you so that you have a pretty good idea about what issues you should expect. Moving between menus and apps is sluggish and noticeably slow. This lag can cause you to push the wrong button at the wrong time and the wrong action would occur (wrong app, wrong menu option, ..etc). The main screen is cluttery and isn't clean. There are things you can do to improve the situation but you can't control the entire main screen content. For example, you can arrange your quick apps and content sources on the main screen, but you have a limited number of apps that you can make permanent on the main screen. Everything else can only be accessible from the apps store (yes that's your only second choice). Even when you get to the apps store, you have to jump through 2 or 3 screens to get to your apps. I have multiple streaming & music apps that I use almost everyday. This thing is a pain the butt.
When you want to switch between different HDMI sources, it takes a couple seconds before the content would appear on the screen. I have a satellite receiver and most of the time the TV wouldn't receive the signal or show the content which forces me to restart the TV (hold the power button for 20secs until it restarts). A lot of times the TV would switch the audio source from my home theater's AVR to the TV by itself. I have to go to the setting and tinker with the audio output settings until it diverts the sound to the AVR.
The other issue is that the operating system isn't consistent across different modern Samsung TVs. For example, for the 65" model that I have, I can access the settings menu without exiting whatever content I'm watching which a) help see the effect of adjusting the video settings, b) preserve the content streaming process. However, on the 85" I have, whenever I enter the settings menu, the TV would exit the streaming content. This is very annoying and bothersome. In some sports streaming apps, this would cause the stream to get interrupted and I'd have to find and start the stream again! Very very annoying.
Finally, the remote control app is the worst you'll see and its modeled after the TV's operating system itself in its issues. It's like it was designed to be annoying. Every time you open the remote control app, a useless main screen would open where you'd have to choose which TV you want to control. Then when you click on the TV you want to control, the app would become unresponsive for a few seconds until a useless authorization message comes up on the TV that would ask you if you want to allow YOUR phone to control YOUR TV, and this will happen EVERY TIME you open the remote control app. The lead time between opening the remote control app and actually starting to do something useful on the TV is at least 10 seconds (best case).
Overall it's not a pleasant operating system to work with at all.

Unboxed the 77" S95C with the help of my wife. She forgot she had just put lotion on her hands (ya I know no white gloves, she says the TV slips when she wears them). Any way, she forgot about the freshly put lotion on her hands and when I saw hazy hand marks on the TV I asked her WTH. She said oops I forgot I had hand lotion on. Been trying to wipe them with a microfiber cloth for 30 minutes, used it damp, heated up the mf cloth, tried circular, back and forth. Not a difference. Those marks seem like the chemicals in the lotion have reacted or attached to the anti glare coating. Emailed Samsung. Not sure what else I can try to use on the screen to get rid of them. Sigh
Damn you're probably out of luck. Panels used on these high end TVs are super sensitive to oils (such as those on human hands), and lotion is basically a highly concentrated version of that. I'd recommend calling a specialty tech shop or Best Buy or something to see if there's anything they can apply to it to eliminate the marks. But yeah that's rough. If my wife did that I'd momentarily consider divorce lol. These things ain't cheap!

Andrew, I've read that 900b 8k is better in the larger size models. NOT in 65 inch model. SO, since I only have room for a 65 inch tv, which would you suggest, s95c or 900b 8k? Mainly dark room viewing and no gaming.

Had them side by side, 95c vs 95b and although 95c is brighter , the 95b has better , more realistic motion, it really isnt a perfect choice
Especially with something like televisions, how do you know that reviews samples supplied by the manufacture are not “golden samples “. Obviously, even if it was a golden sample, it could improve the bad OS or the upscaling, but it could miss represent the typical out-of-the-box color accuracy.
Do you just have to assume that everyone is operating in good faith? Or, do you assume that everyone is putting their best foot forward? I know sometimes you buy retail versions but when the review sample is not a retail version, is there ever any concern that it may not accurately represent what the average consumer might experience out of the box?
Seems 2nd gen is much improved. That's why I am not an early adopter of 1st gen tech. If the Samsung S95C is this accurate maybe the Sony A95L won't be worth the "Sony tax" for accuracy and processing. Time will tell. But, S95C in 77" is on my radar. Thanks for the detailed review. 👍

Keep in mind here that those that have already seen both the S95C and the new A95L have all said that the A95L is far and away the better TV across the board. Yes, you often pay a little more for the Sonys, that's often the case, but the old saying usually does turn out to be true: You get what you pay for!
@@PedroMartins-yv1lv Sony's are a LOT more price competitive than most people realize. Now, that will vary from model to model, of course, but this idea that Sonys are way overpriced just isn't true. A lot of people compare them to absolute garbage TVs from brands with horrible reputations for both quality and reliability and then complain that Sony's are overpriced. But then they also admit that Sonys have far fewer problems and last YEARS longer on average without having to be serviced or repaired. The old saying really is true here: You get what you pay for!

well....depends. If using in a bright room the X95J will perform very well. If you watch mostly at night or in a light controlled dark room, OLED is hard to beat. If you watch mostly movies, Sony is good choice. If video gaming, the S95C would give you the most beautiful colors you'll see.

the colors are extremely better with Samsung vs LG ..... the main advantage of LG is that they are easy to set up with a good filmmaker mode and they have an 83 inch model. If you are into anime , animation or cartoons you would be crazy to not get the Samsung as the colors are jaw dropping.
There's a misconception that just because something is colourful, that oversaturated colours objectively make it look better.
The animators chose specific colours that make things look natural in the context of the world it is representing, and you get to see that in more accurate modes. You also get a bigger RANGE of colours when everything isn't just pushed to its extremities.
I have A/B them at the store and owned them both at home .... its no contest ,,,,, Samsung hands down

waiting for to upgrade my Sony A80K to the A95L….
Several other reviewers out there that have already seen the G3, the S95C and the A95L in person have all said that the A95L is head and shoulders above the competition at just about every level. Sony is widening out the gap between them and their competition this year at the top of their lineup - the one that they opened up last year with the A95K. The early talk already is that Sony will likely win the 2023 "King of TV" shootout in the first week of August as the A95L is just so far out in front of the G3 and the S95C this year on color volume, image processing and motion handling with their newest update of the XR Cognitive processor. If Sony can pull it off, and there is every indication now that they will, that will be their fifth "King of TV" win in a row for their flagship TV. If you are LG or Samsung, you just know that's going to sting.
Will the Q950A work well with its Q-Symphony feature? I am wondering of Q-Symphony 3.0 is based on the sound bar or the C series TVs
For reference mini led bright is 3k nits. Hell my old q8 can do 1600. I still prefer led until it’s Samsung bright
I think the question of the day should be ,why dont you just upgrade to a new phone ? There have been several reviews where your old outdated phone has caused an issue. Not hateing, I was rocking my Note 10 until about a month ago.

I know this is not a technical channel but if we’re going to mention any dynamic metadata content, I think we have to compare to base HDR10 and compare the sets in their own capabilities.
Especially TVs that hit over 1000 nits. The dynamic tone mapping is not necessary and base HDR10 would usually look better.
In our testing using an HDR pattern generator the Samsung appears to do just a little bit worse -- contrast wise -- when delineating greyscale patters as you near true black compared to our measurements of LG or Sony displays. Not saying it's a night and day difference, but there does appear to be a difference. Calibration can correct for this, but on its own (as in out of the box), Samsung crushes blacks more than LG or Sony in our experience.
@@andrewrobinsonreviews this is accurate. Any white OLED owner will tell you their immediate reaction to Samsung S90/95x is that they’re “not black” and at first I thought this was a trait of the QD panel itself but it’s nowhere near as bad with the Sony A95K and I imagine not A95L either. Maybe it’s the addition of heat dissipation either giving a higher perceived contrast from brighter specular detail, I’m not sure. But you are absolutely correct.
@@andrewrobinsonreviews Very true. Also, keep in mind here that Sony's new flagship QD OLED, the A95L, is going to be a Master Series TV. What that means is that it will have three key standout features/benefits: 1.) Panels are hand-picked off of the production line as being the "best of the best"/most flawless panel possible 2.) Pre-calibrated by Sony technicians at the factory before being put in the box so as to get the TV as close to a perfectly accurate, reference-level color spec as possible 3.) A premium, light-up, motion sensing remote that's easy to see and use in pitch-black rooms. With the S95C you have to have it calibrated to have any shot at getting the colors the TV produces to be anything even close to accurate or natural looking. Not only do the Sony TVs pretty much nail color accuracy right out of the box across their entire product line, on their Master Series TVs they are pre-calibrated for you already, before they ever even leave the factory.

Hi Andrew. Need your advice please. I can get the qn900B 85"' for £4000, the same as the x95l or a refurbished 77" s95c for £4200. Which would you pick, as you said previously you would take the x95l over the qn900b but you prefer the 8k upscaling for 85"?
Really wanted an oled but want 85" but will sacrifice some size if needed.

What? 4k only? I thought 8k was a latest rage. About the analog audio issue? A DAC could be used between the optical out and the analog audio device in question. I had to do that a few years ago.
The Nvidia shield pro can give the s95c a better looking picture thanks to its upscaler
