- Creating the illusion of falling rain is an ever popular photography technique and in this video I take three very different approaches to achieving the effect. From streak of rain to ripples in a puddle, this was one very wet shoot in my small home studio!

Thanks for keeping me busy with all the ideas that you have shown me. I really love the videos that you do. They have helped me enormously.
You wouldn't believe how much rain I have seen in my "usually sunny country, as portrayed in movies", I guess I might just move back to the UK, just need to move the whole team with me 😂😂
Keep doing, Gavin. It's important for us. You have a special way of explaining, very objective and clear. We're loving it.
Thanks Rene 👍
Thank you very much .. you are the best photographer in my opinion ... and you are the best person, in fact, that I learned from him and his beautiful ideas..and for the idea, I am from Kuwait
Thank you for doing these, Gavin and Sam! I love watching and I've even tried my hand at a few of them.
Hi Linda. Great to hear you've had a go, that's exactly why we do these 😁
Thanks Gavin and Sam.....another cup of coffee richly enhanced by your entertaining and informative video...cheers, and enjoy a spot of Earl Grey on me!
Thanks Booth, although I might swap Earl Grey for English Breakfast tea, if that's OK with you 😉
Gavin - I really appreciate you verbalizing your thought process as you go along instead of just explaining after the image is on the screen. Also I think you and Sam enjoy doing this. Kudos and thanks! Let's see what you have planned for 2021.
Thank you I just found the live streams here in 2021 but things really haven’t changed much in. The world
Thank you Gavin, your channel is amazing!!!!!
Absolute fantastic practical tutorial/lesson. Thank you very much. I love how practical and well you can teach us.
Love these live streams Gavin, keep up the amazing work 👍😊
Another really nice one, Gavin! Thank you for your enthusiasm, which seems endless. It makes these exercises more fun to watch, and to try. I hope you, Sam, and your family are all doing well during these craaaaaaaaazy times. :)
Thanks for the kind words Mike. Let's hope 2021 is a little less craaaaaaaaazy!
Thank you very much!!!
Thanks for posting these .
Gavin, me and my partner are getting into photography more now, weve just upgraded cameras and I have to say, we watch every video you produce and we love them - we have learned so much :) I really like the format of this video though. Thanks again and please please continue with these videos forever :) They really are inspiring and educational. All the very best to you both.
I think the continuous light is giving you much longer and less natural-looking 'rain', using a flash i've found you get almost perfect very short streaks at 1/60
Thank you!!! I love these!!!
Thanks Patty. For me live streaming has been one of the few good things to come out of 2020.
@@GavinHoey Hopefully and I'm praying, with vaccines coming out this pandemic will be over soon. I do enjoy every video you produce and I learn something from each one.
I enjoyed every minute of the show. I also admire the lovely partnership you have with Sam.
YEAAAA!!
Thanks for the demo. Hopefully I will remember to catch the next one live.
January 16th. Get it in your diary 😉
Gavin Hoey, you're my favourite of all Adorama's photographers, you show such a variety of stuff... The next step is going to be snow in the studio, and then, finally, meteors in the studio! :-)
Thanks for the kind words. We've done snow in the studio on Adorama TV several times but meteors... Hmmm I like the sound of that 😄
That’s sweet. A large print of that would look really sweet.
Thanks David. I just need a large wall to put it on 😉
Sam chiming in - priceless ! LOL
Lots more Sam on the full version 😉
Gavin, your efforts in demonstrating all those techniques are quite entertaining and much informative. It's greatly appreciated. I always peek at what you are doing! Great work! BTW where did you get this foldable water pool? Thanks
Love the live stream, as well as the various tutorials. In this one you added an interesting background in PS, is there a tutorial for this step? Many thanks.
Missed it! Damn.
Fantastic video, as always. Not that it matters, but those wasn't Newton's rings.
“I have to be better with my aim...” #itsamanthing 🧐
Dear Gavin and Sam: I'm from Spain, and I've been your fan for a long time. In a small part it's due to your charming accent. I understand almost everything you say (and you use to say a lot). May I ask what part of the UK are you from?
Hi Gavin I can’t seem to find the video where you spin Christmas lights around a model with a long exposure and a flash. Do you have a link please?
Great video Gavin
Thanks Kirsty 👍
@@GavinHoey your welcome
No remote shutter release Sir Gavin? Sam, Gavin's Christmas prezzie sorted...
I notice you don't seem to use a light meter in recent videos. Do you still use them? Would you recommend bying one if someone is just getting into portrait photography?
Your videos are great tutorials. Thank you
Hi Marcus. I absolutely do recommend a light meter to any photographer who uses flash. With social distancing an important part of current life, I've had to refrain from metering portraits. In this case metering a back lit subject is more about taste then accuracy.
@@GavinHoey thanks for getting back to me. Much appreciated. 👍
What’s the name of a box like that? I’m having trouble finding different kinds of surfaces with different textures to use.
If you mean the wooden box, I call it my homemade recycled garden decking box 🔨
@@GavinHoey thank you kind sir! I’ve been watching all your vids from Andorama and had to search your name for your channel, great content! I’ve learned a lot 👍🏼
He'd do better if he'd spray up and let the water fall. Then he'd get a wider coverage, and the drops would separate from each other like real rain. They still look like spray instead of rain drops.
