- Join me for a session that might go wrong! I'm speaking at the SWPP Societies Convention in London this week using gear that I've never demo'd before. So in this live session I'm going to be taking you through my planning and testing. I'll have the amazing Poly as my model and might even jump in front of the camera myself!
The plan is to get creative with a Godox Knowled F400BI LED panel. It's big, it's bright and I'm probably not going to use it in the way it was designed!

Dear Gavin and Chloe! I saw you guys today in the "Live Room". I didnt go there to say hi as it was pretty fast pased after you portrait presentation so writing a few words here. I'm a long time follower and wanted to say thank you for your amazing work. Learnt a lot throughout the years from you and you never fail to inspire. Great to see someone loving and living photography like you do. I will have a group shoot with 8 dancers next Sunday and your tip today (writing their names at the back/behind the camera LCD) will definetly come in handy. :D Your work is greatly appriciated! Brilliant as always. If I may suggest, definitely a sparkly dress for Chloe and perhaps sparkly make up as well? (is sparkly a word lol)
For self portait this might be a solution better than self-timer and locked focus:
AF active when half-press in S-AF. Eye/Face detection.
Use interval shooting. Initial time 5-10 seconds (?) and 2 or more images. If flash is used, set interval longer than time of flash recharging.
Set focus about where it should be, as the first image may be out of focus. The next ones will be in focus.
Cons.: You have to reactivate interval-shooting every new session/set-up (OM-1)

A fun and interesting video. Think I'll stick with my flash strobes though. LED lights are just too big for the space I have. Many thanks for the giggles on this video - that just adds to the interest. 😀

quick suggestion: try doing it with a zoom lense and change the zoom focal length to add some movement

It was 42C here earlier in the week. We;ve been experimenting with heatwaves, seeing how far we can go. Up north in Marble Bar they almost set a new record. I think Perth did..

I'm watching the recording from sunny SE Arizona where it's 53F. I loved this live session! Educational and hilarious. I've been considering adding LED panel lighting to my arsenal. This video answered a few questions I didn't know I had. Loved hearing Sam and Freya laughing in the background. Keep up the great work!
It was 43 here yesterday About fifteen minutes walk from the Indian Ocean. There were violent storms not a long way north from here.

No no no …flash strobes is the way to go. For now at least.
I keep a wired remote (with extension) handy for those setup shots. It and the tripod get shoved to the side when I'm ready to go. I have so many pictures of me with a dazed and confused look because I'm thinking about the setup and not my face.

LEDs are not the way to go .give me flash anyday. . They are like the rubbish EV the so called next best thing like sliced bread. Great for video or still life and that's about their limit.
LED is just another tool. It may not be for you (which is totally understandable if EV is your goal) but that doesn't mean they won't be the perfect fit for others. Personally I find them a nice fit in certain applications and besides, I enjoy keeping up with the ever evolving lighting technology.
