    When I used to run a studio back in the early 80's I'd always use a mix of glycerine and water. The glycerine clings onto the surface and the water created the runs.

    • @airb1976
      @airb1976 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting explanation but the opposite happens. Glycerine decreases the surface tension of water and increases the wetting behaviour > better creation of "runs". Because glycerine also increases the viscosity of water and decreases evaporation it increase the "sticking" on surfaces....

    @raypoole2394 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have worked technicals for Photographers in the past and have watched many choreograph a shoot until a Model is exhausted. Your models look comfortable. Do I assume right that you suggest to the model what you wish to achieve and let the model take the lead? I always learn something from your videos that makes my job easier when setting up the equipment for a shoot. I'll never be the man behind the camera. A Gaffer I will always be. LOL

    • @GavinHoey
      @GavinHoey 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ray. I believe if your model is tired, cold or unhappy you're only ever going to get bad photos. From the moment of booking I share mood boards and talk styling, so on the day of the shoot we're all working to achieve the same goal. We also have a shooting schedule, so when I have what I need I don't keep shooting just for the sake of it... Despite how that sounds we also have lots of laughs on the shoot 😉

    • @raypoole2394
      @raypoole2394 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@GavinHoey Aye, that sounds wonderful. I rarely work for a photographer who doesn't respect the model and when I do it is only once. I'm a technician or in plain terms a simple gaffer. I set up the lighting, drops and sound when call for. At the moment I am lucky enough to be working as a location scout for a lovely Photographer who appreciates a good pack animal when she see's one. I will carry her equipment and scout for her as long as I am able. She is a wonderful lady. Good luck kind Sir. And thank you. :)

    Hallo Gavin, nice tutorial again. I really like these 'trics'. I always learn someting new! But I have a question. Most models are relatively young, very good looking models. What if you have a lady around 60 to 70 years old with obvious wrinckels! What is the best lighting method to minimalize those wrinckels so as to spare time in post. Would you like to do a tutorial in this situation?

    Gavin, your shot data looks like you used f2.8 (referring to the 2nd set of shots w/ umbrella). It looks like you focused on the water drops and Fern is soft; which I assume was your intent. Have you ever shot for her being in focus with soft water drops...OR...doing a stacked image for both being in focus?
    Just curious.

    Thanks for the very creative video. I would love to try this but need a perspex sheet from somewhere but then wouldn't know where to store it. Will your "Rain on Request" workshop be covering some of the same material from this video but in more detail or will it be different things? Also would you ever consider making a video on shooting in actual rain? I'm not sure how easy it would be to light a scene with all the equipment getting wet.

      I store my sheet behind my grey studio "wall" 😉 I've had a shoot in the rain video in my bag fir the past few years but luckily, when we do go out on an Adorama TV shoot the weather has been dry. FYI, Saturdays live stream is VERY different!
