  • This is the start of the Lyra Tales! Hope you enjoy!
    This is my first time owning a baby pionus, and I was very intrigued as to how different a baby would be to a rehomed parrot. So in the Lyra series we will vlog what life has been like with a Baby pionus and eventually compare the difference between the 2.

    Beautiful baby girl. Her feathers are wonderful shades of blue and turquoise I just love it. I did love seeing them together. I think on one of your shorts, I thought I heard Quaffle say "What's goin on".

      Quaffles little grumble voice short! She only started doing that noise recently. We couldn't work out what she was saying but a couple of people think she says "what's going on" too

    Ohhh that deep blue is gorgeous! Since getting my dusky, I've noticed an array of colors in her feathers that I hadn't previously noticed in photos. Once you get to see them up close, it's so cool to see all of the coloring!

    Omg omg! But I'm not surprised LOL.... I thought "I bet she stays on that waiting list even after the adoption and then....... will still get the Bronze Wing." And I was right! :) I'm doing the same. I'm on a waiting list for a bronze but keeping an eye on rescue. Can't wait to see more of this little girl!

      We Call yours a White Cap. Same as Quaffle 😊 I'm going to go into their Diet in a full video later this year. Large amounts of seeds are bad for Pionus because they are sensitive to Protein.
      My girls have chop every morning, which is a mixture of fresh veg, a teaspoon of Mikey and Mias dry mix or soaring wings training's dry mix, and a teaspoon of soaked seeds. Then in the evening they have TOPS pellets which we encourage them to forage for. Then for training they get either a couple of Almonds or a small spoon of pine nuts each. Seeds also make great treats for training.
      Glad you are enjoying the videos!! And thank you for all your comments! Hope your little White cap is doing well. What have you called them?

    Personally I'll never do much the first day(s). Already so many new impressions, very stressed.

    • @PionusTales
      @PionusTales  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Everyone is different and it depends on each individual bird too. Lyra was already a very confident bird and adapted extremely quickly to the home so we were able to do a lot more with her without her getting stressed. If she was a more nervous or fearful bird we would of taken it much slower and give her a chance to settle.

    • @VladimirKelman
      @VladimirKelman 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree with you. Too much impressions here, too much of a stress.

  • @thomas2leroy
    @thomas2leroy ปีที่แล้ว

    Question, How long do they continue to make the baby bird noises?

    • @PionusTales
      @PionusTales  ปีที่แล้ว

      That depends on each individual bird. Lyra stopped the screaming/begging noises around 2-3 months after being home. The very cute noises stopped around 6 months. But any big or drastic changes can cause them to come back before they hit maturity. Quaffle as an example was 1.5 years old when we got her but still made baby noises for the first month or 2 while she was settling in.

    Hi :) Im looking for european breeders of the bronze winged pionus cause i’d really love to have one. Would you happen to be able to help guide me? Thank you!

    • @PionusTales
      @PionusTales  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Unfortunately I don't know of any breeders in Europe. I know Stella from Stella and Charlie lives in Denmark, she may know of a few breeders in the area. Most Europeon breeders dont ship to the UK so I've never looked into breeders outside of the UK before. There's a group on Facebook called Pionus Parrots which is an international group, someone on there may be able to point you in the right direction but make sure to do your research before getting one. Parrots are not easy to live with x

    • @PionusTales
      @PionusTales  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @KurtVSJ All the breeders I know in the UK won't or don't have the ability to transfer a bird outside of the UK so there's no one I could recommend if you don't live in the UK

    She’s begging for food with that cry and bobbing. Was she fully weaned?

    • @PionusTales
      @PionusTales  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We know she was, I had made sure to research baby pionus behaviour before bringing her home so i knew what she was trying to communicatetous 😊.
      And yes she was fully weaned. She had been eating solid foods for 2 weeks at the breeders before we brought her home, but the change caused her to regress.
      It's surprisingly common in baby Pionus for them to regress when changing homes. We were prepared for it and had baby food on order that was due to be delivered that morning just incase she did. But the delivery was delayed because of the Queens Funeral.
      She had access to the same veggies and pellets she was eating at the breeders but was simply refusing to eat them. You should of seen her the moment we brought out the baby food and syringe. It's like we'd just given a child chocolate 🤣
      She quickly re-weaned after a week or 2 once she settled down.

    I want one but there so expensive there like 4000 or 5000 $

    • @PionusTales
      @PionusTales  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They are, even here in the UK they're £1600 or similar, but they're more common here than in some other countries so the price is a little cheaper. But other species are very expensive here and cheaper in the USA. Its completely dependent on how many breeders there are. Pionus are very difficult to breed so as a result there's not many chick's born each year. That rarity due to the difficulty to breed increases the prices more so.
