    Visited New York, asked a local where the best place to get a quick bite to eat. He pointed to the Bodega down the street; said chopped cheese. It was the best breakfast I had that entire trip.

    I lived on 10th and B for 3 years all through covid. Sunny and Annie’s never closed and they make INCREDIBLE sandwiches. Such a nice family too, support them if passing by and don’t forget to tip your sandwich guy.

      People don’t want to pay 18 for an extremely unhealthy sandwich that “ could feed three people”. They want to pay a reasonable price for one sandwich for one person.

      It's marked up because the store is viral. In other words, he charges that much because he can. If the Ock (who has 2 bodegas to run) charged regular priced, he'd be spending all day making those sandwiches.

    As a New Yorker, bodegas are not just a staple in NYC, but the metro area as well. I lived in Jersey City for a few years before moving back to NY, and there are plenty of bodegas there as well in The Heights. What makes bodegas special are the charm and the affordability (typically) for the average person living in some of the most expensive areas anywhere. And it's a true bodega if there's a cat around.

    My dad who is originally from Brooklyn has even told me that the two most popular NY sandwiches are a baconeggandcheese on a roll (apparently us NYers consider it as one word) and a chopped cheese. I’ve personally never had a chopped cheese before, but I’m definitely gonna try it soon.

      Egg sandwiches are common in the northeast since it’s super easy to make. The chopped cheese sandwich is less common

      It’s trendy because of social media. And the people on social media believe these places are “the best”.
      They are not the best whatsoever. Many places in the boroughs for deli sandwiches that blow these places away. They are kept secrets that have avoided the social media train.

    Mine used to be called Fishies. I lived in northern New Jersey. As a child walking to school I would take a quarter and give it to the lady and she would put bologna on a Kaiser roll and wrap it up for me. I ate that thing every day it was so incredibly good

    I tried the BE&C this exact same way the ocky way and guys, it's worth the money. Even when cut in half these things are HUGE! I'm a big guy with a big appetite and I was full when I was done with my half. So say my half was $9, typical bacon egg and cheese is anywhere from 3 to 5 bucks depending where you go, if you get a side of mozzarella sticks that costs another 4-5 bucks, and this guy puts enough bacon for 3 or 4 sandwiches you get anywhere else. If you go there go there with a friend and split it, totally worth it. Ocky is magic!

    NYC definitely isn't a perfect city (their subway has seen better days, while ours has chandeliers), but I'll give it to them that their bodegas are culturally significant. NYC isn't NYC without its bodegas. And we thank NYC to continuing to provide the Internet with its weirdness. Hoping to one day make it over there to do a UN speech. I just hope what happened to Admiral General Aladeen doesn't happen to me.

    I love how eclectic NYC is and how the people seem to embrace diversity. I love that they have so many "mom n pap" food spots with original flavors and secret recipes. I'm not knocking all the big franchise chain food spots but these little ones tend to have some of the best tasting most creative menu. Years ago I went restaurant hopping with some relatives and literally visited 4 different spots on the same street and enjoyed a taste off each menu, we don't have that luxury in my city for a variety of reasons.

    Like he says- the bacon egg and cheese, on a frosted honey bun IS enough for 4 people - and probably could induce a heart attack in all 4 of them. If you come to NY try a baconeggandcheese on a freshly baked NY REAL bagel- or a lighter opt: the kaiser roll....that's real NY. It isn't health food, but it's not poisonous either.

    Those deli sandwiches have gotten much bigger over the decades. I grew up in NYC, ham, egg and cheese on a toasted buttered roll cost $1.50 back then. I would eat half for breakfast and half for lunch.

      Egg sandwiches are very common in the north east. I’ve seen them in a lot of breakfast lunch trucks. It’s ok to add ketchup too. Nobody will mind

    I was born and raised in Brooklyn. I remember going through Puerto Rican neighborhoods where bodegas were exclusively a PR grocery/deli/restaurant store. Now any deli calls itself a bodega.

    I wanted to open a restaurant since I was young. I've cooked for years and I've got the skill to succeed but coming up with monet to start is the problem but this really inspires me to push and try to make it happen. I honestly should have done it long ago but there was no social media then so it was much harder to spread the word.

    I don't eat bacon and eggs but I enjoyed video. The little mom and pop places are great - it what keeps a neighborhood interesting. Big thumbs up I think you will hit 300K subs before the end of the month.

    NYC has always laid claim to the chop cheese sandwich. But, my dad said he was ordering them from steak sandwich shops in the very early 70's in Buffalo, NY. We call them chop burger. Don't know where they started for sure. But thank God they did. Lol
