    Thank you, lovely lady, for going back to my time in music... 👍Every Single time I hear this song it gives me chills, this is one of my favorite songs from Lynyrd Skynryd. And yes, you are right to say music of today is not the same as back in my day. Many people of today don't know about or have forgotten the pure sound of making music the hard and more traditional way, it was done more with real interments and not using computer generated type music. Back then they put their hearts and sweat into it not just their voices. 😁

    Exactly! The older generation was simple. That's how I was raised.

      @@rondaddio4004 i was born in 1970,and it sure was a simpler time! Footloose and fancy free! 😃 My brother was born in '62 and my sister was born in '64 so while other kids my age was watching sesame street,i cut my teeth on Kiss;Led Zeppelin, etc...plus,my Mon and Dad was big Elvis fans,and really liked the motown stuff too,so i was very fortunate to get a great mix of some great music!! I reckon that's why i like a lot of different genre's now. One minute you may hear me listening to classical instrumental music,the next i may be listening to Hank Williams Jr.,then i may be listening to some Luther Vandross,then i may be listening to 80's hair metal or just metal! I feel like when you limit yourself to just one genre,that's pretty boring! Not a big fan of rap or opera though! I mean,there are some rap songs i actually like,but not my go to!

    I sing this with our band. Just my kind of music. Im Country Rock Bluesy and so is this. We still play in our backyard all summer. How I grew up. My Dad played in a bamd and we had parties galore. We still do. My boy plays drums now and my nieces sing with me. Youve never seen 2 black girls than can sing country music like they can. God bless ya, Mia. Ive seen your other stuff and thats your thing but have to say I simply adore seeing this side of you.

    I have travelled a fair amount, and your comments at the end really did resonate with me. I mean that makes so much sense and that's partly or rather mostly the way I feel as well. One exception to that rule is on a much more mundane travel scale, where when I was younger, I went on several road trips not only with friends, but sometimes with people I hardly knew at all and then we got to know each other really well and became friends. That's not the same as spending some time in Italy or France or Vietnam or Bulgaria, wherever. Another slow one although to me they're not really all that slow and they always have sections of high intensity, but this is an absolutely beautiful and sad song, it's just so beautiful and the storytelling is good, and it was a big hit for them and a fan favorite: "Tuesday's Gone".

    Great reaction. It's nice to see younger people with common sense and appreciate what life is really about. Nothing beats rock music from the late 60's to the early 2000's. Heart, passion, soul, and actual talent was never more fully on display than during this time. If you are looking for faster Lynryd Skynyrd songs, "Call Me The Breeze," "Saturday Night Special," and "Gimmie Three Steps" are great places to start. Keep going, because you have miles and miles and miles to go, and you will not be disappointed. All of us watching your reactions will not steer you in the wrong direction.

    Other Skynyrd songs to try are: *Tuesday's Gone __ The Ballad of Curtis Loew __ Freebird __ Sweet Home Alabama __ The Needle and the Spoon __ Gimme Three Steps __ Gimme Back My Bullets ... and many more.* But this one and Tuesday's Gone are my two favorites. And I listed them pretty much in order on my favs list. The 70's were my teen years...and what a great decade it was for music.

And your assessment of how blessed I (and those of my ilk) were to grow up with music like this and much of the other that you're now discovering, versus what the last couple of generations have been subjected to is absolutely accurate. Did you catch the portion of her advice where she told him to be someone HE could love and understand? Genuine acceptance and meaningful admiration has to start in the mirror - so effin' profound!

    I know it isn't your personal genre of music but back in the day, (1960s-1970s-early 1980s) there was a very diverse variety of music. There was no internet and only 3 TV channels so music was the way to escape our reality. Those of us who were stoners listened to Rock, Southern Rock, Motown, English bands and Modern Country heard music for EVERY mood, and ours ran the gamut from energetic partying to 12 hour acid trips. There was music that was mellow and slow with meaningful lyrics and beautiful tunes, sometimes with orchestra added. I hope in your musical discovery you will give alternative music a listen and experience the laid back mellow music we used to listen to when "coming down" from a long introspective high. It was a special time and it gave us an interesting perspective on life and how to live it.

    Mia
    My friend's sister and I went to Lynyrd Skynyrd with original singer's brother singing (his brother took over singing 10 years after the tragic plane crash) last year. This version of LS is not with original members after last member, Gary Rossington, guitarist died early last year. They do have one member of the band named Ricky Medlocke; guitarist played in the band for long time. During this concert, we went to, this song was playing as original singer's brother singing this song. There with a mike stand holding the hat of Ronnie Van Zant, original singer. This concert was mostly a tribute to all original members. Up with Skynyrd Nation!
    Mia, as you go thru the rabbit hole of LS, here's a brief backstory of the band: Back in early 1970's in Jacksonville, Florida, original members were in high school wearing long hair (kind of protest to conformity and war in Vietnam). They had a gym teacher named Leonard Skinner plus teacher. Skinner hated men with long hair. He always gives members hard time because of long hair in school. During their time in school, members started a rock band. As fun and mockery to Coach Skinner, they named their band after him as sort of protest but spelled differently as you see here. LS gotten very famous as the years went for their careers, then tragic plane crash in 1977 killing Ronnie and few other people. LS went into indefinitely hiatus until 1987, band reformed with singer's brother, Johnnie. Back to Coach Skinner, band invited him onstage with them introduce fans of band who helped to start their careers. Coach Skinner is mentioned at the Rock Hall of Fame with LS got inducted into Rock Hall of Fame.

    • @dunhill1
      @dunhill1 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      As a Jacksonville long time resident (37y) I'd like to share that Coach Skinner retired from teaching/coaching at Robert E Lee High School, where most of the core members attended and he became a successful Realtor here in town. Of course it made all the local news channels when he sadly passed away. The Van Zant house where Ronnie and his family grew up in is now kind of a recognized landmark complete with an official plaque sign stating it. It's neat to drive by and see it as it was in the 70s; it's been meticulously maintained and well taken care of. In 1988, I had an unexpected unforgetable experience with one of the members. I was a busboy at a Japanese Steak House, Mikado, which is no longer but the building is still there. One Saturday night just as we were cleaning up and prepping to close the restaurant, our manager came around and said, "We have a special guest coming so please hold off on cleaning up everything." I thought to myself, "Great now I can't go out to O'Malley's and meet my friends." Who walks thru the front door at around 10:30pm? The great Billy Powell and his wife. At that particular time, I didn't know what he looked like, but I was very familar with all of LS songs. So after he and his wife finished their Tepanyaki dinner, he asked for all the staff to come over into the dining room as he wanted to personally thank all of us. Get this, as he was shaking all of our hands, a $100 bill came with it. Even little ole me, the busboy received $100 from him. In 1988, that was to me a lot of money. After he and his wife left, I went to go and lock the front door, peeked outside and saw them get into a white stretched Lincoln Limo and drive away. What a class act and a very cool guy who genuinely appreciated us waiting and cooking for him and his wife. I'll never forget that experience. RIP Billy.

      @dunhill1 Awesome story
      I know that another local band, Shinedown, started out local bar owned by the widow of Ronnie van Zant. Plus, one of the members dated the daughter of Ronnie. Shinedown famously covered Simple Man at the bar before they like LS, becoming well-known in music.

    • @dunhill1

      @@MrTech226 Yeah, I believe Shinedown was also formed here. I wasn't aware of them until they covered Simple Man and it is very well done. Tuesday's Gone is a slower one too. Metallica did a cover of that one. Foo Fighters - Best of You (2005), My Hero (late 90s) for some upbeat rock. Liking your views on life. Well, Sound Girl 😊, it's definitely a thing. And as a musician and composer and whatnot for many years, although I really appreciate great writing and fantastic lyrics, my brain just latches onto the sound always. I'm always analyzing the structure of it and who's doing what and how did the moving pieces relate to each other and how does it sound. Regardless of the words how is the singer delivering them, how tight is this band or ensemble? That kind of thing.
    Because of that, I frequently mis-hear lyrics and I'm usually disappointed when I find out what they really are because I have become attached to my own Rorschach ink block test version of the lyrics, lol. 😅

    As a musician I will tell you that like myself most musicians hear the music of a song first or deeper first. And some writers need the music first before expressing the lyrics.

    A good up tempo song from Lynard Skynryd is Call Me The Breeze. Good guitars as well as a piano solo

    In my opinion, the sad part of this generation does have music like Skynyrd. But the music industry makes it hard to hear it. Bands like Whiskey Myers, Blackberry Smoke, The Steel Woods & so many more. Luckily Jelly Roll has broken out. Even though I prefer his rap to his country, his country is still great

    I'm totally a sound's guy too.
    If I don't read the lyrics or totally pay attention to the lyrics I absolutely don't care about the lyrics 😅
    Most of the songs I know I have no idea or just some hints about the lyrics.
    Lynyrd Skynyrd was such a big band!
    And piano man is an absolute classic, from them I love also Sweet Home Alabama and Tuesday's gone.

    Love this song and if you also loved this song I feel like you would also enjoy the Shinedown cover of it. Shinedown is another band that I think that once you give them a shot you will want to listen to as many of their songs as possible.

    Esta canción representa lo que deberían ser los principios básicos de una persona, no importa la generación pero se ha ido perdiendo a través de los años.
    Gracias a Dios tenemos grandes canciones como esta que nos recuerdan lo que es importante.
    Saludos

    You’ve most likely heard a song by them before.. “Sweet Home Alabama” is very well known.

    There was a hit song back in the 90s whose whole music video was made up of a bunch of missing people's posters. The song is called "Runaway Train", by Soul Asylum. It doesn't have a billion views, but its views are up there. I really enjoy your reactions.
    My favorite lynyrd Skynyrd song is Give Me Back My Bullets

    For a fast, rocking song try "Call Me The Breeze", for one of the most beautiful ballads it's "Tuesday's Gone", for a fun song it's "Gimme Three Steps", and for a song warning about the dangers of vices, "That Smell".

    FWIW, I've watched a few reactions to Simple Man. Everyone praises it, everyone loves it, everyone mostly gets it. But your take re the comparison to current celebs, musical themes, social media lifestyle, and what you want is fire. There's a lot more there, I think. Would be interesting to see how themes have changed in general across time. It occurs to me that Grandmaster Flash's The Message (you should check it out) from 1982 might be a part of this conversation, as well. Anyway, excellent analysis.
