Makes my heart smile to see a younger generation turn on to this iconic music. No band has a right to be this talented..... every single member a success in thier own right! All of them could serve as lead vocal..... AMAZING! I saw them in 1974 before they really became famous.... a great show in Jax, FL as I recall. I was on the floor, up front, stage right and I could FEEL the air that the speakers were pushing out! Will never forget that.

Fun fact: they're ALL lead singers. They're ALL guitarists, they're ALL bass players, and they're all drummers.
Point being is they're all extremely talented and accomplished writers

Since you asked....yes, I've seen them live three times. The last time was in February of 2020 in their "Hotel California Tour". They played the entire album in order, then took about a 20 minute intermission and then came back and played just about every other song they've ever done.
    And it was GLORIOUS!!!
Really glad you enjoyed this so much.

It's a privilege to watch Don Felder and Joe Walsh play that solo. Pure perfection!
Also, now you understand why they were once the best band in the USA! One of their guitarists and songwriters was Glenn Frey, who sadly passed away in 2016. RIP Glenn Frey!

PHIL COLLINS (Genesis, solo) was a drummer and lead singer. See IN THE AIR TONIGHT live 2004 Paris.

KAREN CARPENTER of THE CARPENTERS sang and drummed.
    Many others.

This has to be the most famous song of the 1970's.
Grammy winner for Record of the Year in 1977.
The Eagles used to be Linda Ronstadt's rhythm section,
and she was the one who suggested to them to go out on their own.
Probably the most played guitar riff in rock history.

The Eagles were my first concert in 1977 when I was 17, and I do remember how crazy we all went when they played the opening notes of this song. The band broke up in 1980, and reunited in 1994 for the "Hell Freezes Over" tour. Glenn Frey joked, "For the record, we never broke up. We took a fourteen year vacation." I saw them on that tour, and again in 2002, 2004, and 2010. To say that I was spoiled by them for my first concert, and that they set an incredibly high bar for all those I attended after is a massive understatement. Pick a favorite song? Can't do it. I would change my answer week to week or maybe day to day.

Mia , be careful , the drummer that was singing lead is Don Henley. He is notorious for making reactors pull down Eagles videos & threaten them with a copyright strike , just sayin'. I only saw them live once on their tour for the album The Long Run. Growing up my friends father was the general manager of an independant record store. He used to get free concert tickets for all the shows , all i had to do was give his son a ride and i'd get a free ticket. I've been to about 700 concerts over 4 decades and paid for about a third of them. I' ve been very lucky.

The Eagles still perform live MIA. They are right now in a residency at the new Sphere in Las Vegas. I saw them a couple years ago haven’t seen this show but the reviews are great. Still have at least three original members drummer Don Henley (lead singer on this video) Joe Walsh (guy in the bandana on guitar at the end) and Timothy B. Schmidt. A great country singer Vince Gill now tours with them since the death of Glen Frey the other lead singer. You’d enjoy their show they play lots of hits and still jam hard.

They were all super talented/legendary guys. The guitarist with the bandana is a legendary figure. His name is Joe Walsh and he was in another group called The James Gang, and also had a super successful solo career. The drummer (Don Henley) also had a super successful solo career with lots of hits. The guy playing the acoustic guitar Glenn Frey (Rest In Peace, Mr. Frey - absolute legend) was the other lead singer of the Eagles and also had a legendary solo career of his own. He appeared regularly in a popular show back in the 80's called Miami Vice. You Belong To The City and Smugglers Blues are absolute bangers by him that you should definitely check out. You won't be dissapointed. I know I used the word "legendary" a lot in this post, but there is no other word to describe these guys. Each of these guys are a rabbit hole all their own.

I have been fortunate enough to see the Eagles 14 times since 1980, including the concert in Long Beach, CA that ended with their break-up on July 31, 1980, and the first location of their reunion tour dubbed "Hell Freezes Over" in 1994. And yes, all of their shows have been incredible. As I said as a response on another comment, the Eagles currently have a residency at the Sphere in Las Vegas. This will be the last part of their farewell tour and from what I hear, there are tickets still available. But the number of shows is limited, so if you're going to go see them, best to jump on it soon.

You are correct regarding seeing this group live because they were masters on the stage and it just left you mesmerized. They are one of the very few groups that I've seen live and 78 years old and I've been going to concert since I was 17. They are as good live as their studio albums and like I said, only a few groups are as good without having technology improve their performance.

Sadly, Henley just couldn't leave well enough alone and has taken to the road lately with a back-up track heavy, lip-synced act that taints the Eagle's legacy while making a mockery of the band's reputation for having delivered genuinely live stage performance versions of their songs that stood up quality wise to the near pristine studio productions that had been released.

My wife and I saw them in concert again fairly shortly before Glenn Frye died. Stills had no voice at all left. Young wasn't with them and Crosby and Nash both still had their voices. Still's could still play, but he just couldn't sing, the voice was gone. Just with that fact alone I can't believe he's still out there trying to make a buck But the lip sinking thing absolutely makes sense to me. And by that I mean, it makes sense that he's doing it because he has no more voice. But talk about sad.

Yeah, the Eagles were a HUGE band in the 1970's - they even broke the record of best-selling album of all time IN THE US a few years ago, with the compilation "Their Greatest Hits (1971-1975)" surpassing the sales of Michael Jackson's "Thriller" in America (MJ still holds the record when it comes to worldwide sales, though). Also, not exactly related to this band itself, but every time I listen to this wonderful song, I don't know why it reminds me of another incredible record I believe you should react to: "Stairway To Heaven", a true rock anthem by Led Zeppelin - another extremely iconic band from the 1970's.

Yeah, I saw this concert at Chicago Stadium in Oct. of '77. It was my first time hearing this song, as they were a little late in getting the album released, for some reason. It was also my first time seeing/hearing Don 'fingers' Felder on the double-neck guitar. It was his playing the 12-string upper neck that you said sounded so good to you. - has that distinctive ' chiming' sound to it. Roger McGuinn of the Byrds plays a 12-string Rickenbacker on songs like, "Turn, Turn, Turn", & "Mr. Tambourine Man" (hint, hint)

An iconic song. The guitar solo is just legendary, but the whole song does an amazing job of setting an eerie, mysterious vibe. One interpretation of the song is that it's a metaphor for California, maybe especially the LA scene. Eagles have some of the best harmonies anywhere! Lead singers on drums - Phil Collins/Genesis, and Levon Helm of The Band are both worth checking out. The Band and the Eagles both had other singers lead on certain songs/parts.

Yep great solo. All of them could sing and had success outside of the Eagles.
Because I'm from FL , I am partial to Don Felder from Gainesville Fl. He had the double neck guitar. He actually taught Tom Petty to play guitar and Duane Allman taught Don how to play slide guitar. Amazing how much talent was around Gainesville at that time not to mention Stephen Stills from Crosby stills Nash and Young. I'm sure you will be recommended songs on all of those people.
My favorite Eagles song slightly above this is "One of these nights, " which I think you will like a lot because it has a great guitar and also "Victim of Love "

I saw them during the When Hell Freezes Over tour in 2003 and they were unreal. Not only did they do ALL their hits they did all the solo stuff from individual members. I've seen a ton of bands in my day, I'm 63 and these guy's were the best live performance I've ever seen!

Phil Collins would play drums and sing also. It has to be incredibly hard to have half your brain staying on beat while the other half is retrieving the lyrics and putting emphasis in all the right places. Amazing

From the 'Who Cares' book: I saw them at tender age of 18 in '76 in Tulsa, in 1994 in New Orleans, and in 2008 in Houston. All of them were Eagles worthy experiences. They played their songs to the best possible rendition of the track that was laid down on vinyl. Even though bassist Meisner left after the '77 tour, Timothy B. Schmidt was a worthy replacement. And after they ran out Felder, Joe Walsh carried most of the load and obviously was fabulous. Add Frey and Henley and you had a great run for 30+ years. Nice reaction and great look as well!

Don Felder with the double guitar was teaching guitar at a music store when 13 yr old Tommy Petty came for lessons. Little did they know they would both be rock legends.

Eagles were always better live than in the studio, perfectly attuned to each other, each one a great talent. Everyone could sing and play several instruments.
Check out more of this fantastic concert, “Lyin Eyes”, “Take it easy”, “New Kid in town” (Glenn Fry), “Take it to the Limit” (Randy Meissner) . also absolutely great “I can't tell you why” (Timothy Smith) and Live Melbourne “Desperado” (Don Henley), to cry and dream, and “Tequila sunrise” (Glenn) just good. And there's more....

I saw the Eagles at Red Rocks on 1973; that was before Joe Walsh joined the band. Between the gorgeous outdoor atmosphere and the woman who was with me, there was the overwhelming sound of the Eagles. Unfortunately, this was before they wrote Hotel California. I'm glad you enjoy them, too.

Hi Mia! I've had the chance to see them a couple times and something in life would happen to prevent it. That is Don Henley on drums. He and the late Glenn Frey took turns on lead vocals. Glenn passed away in 2016. They still tour. Vince Gill, who is a great country singer, is helping them out on vocals now. BTW.. Like the shirt

Being a pre-teen and teen in the 1970s, I had the good fortune of growing up with some great music. Depending on the genre, there was the Eagles, Elton John, The Carpenters (and Karen was the lead singer and played drums as well), Captain & Tenielle, Olivia Newton John, Barry Manilow, ZZ Top, Led Zepplin, and the list goes on and on...

Some folks call this song "A guitar solo with a song in the middle of it".
Another couple of examples of a band with the drummer doing lead vocals are The Carpenters and The Band (Yes...that's their name)

Definitely one of the top ten guitarsolos, but some tend to believe the best guitar solo ever played on this planet was the second solo of „Comfortably numb“ as played by David Gilmour during the Pulse Concerts back in 1994! Check it out!
