I'm a one man band, cajon with 2 foot pedals hitting on bass and snare spots, guitar and vocals already miced, and high hats for splash on my right. I've got an at2020 and an at2021, and I've been struggling to use these on the percussion for months :( Really great video mate, that sounded sweet! I'm gonna try this with just my at2020, you've inspired me man, thank you!
Awesome job! Have you tried the mic in different positions to see what the best one is? I'm thinking of getting this mic as my first attempt at recording drums so appreciate your content here👍
I play metal and this mic really despises rim shots and clips even at the lowest gain on my interface(Currently using it over the shoulder with a second mic for the bass drum). I'm gonna be snabbing the shure attenuetor tomorrow and see if that helps solve the issue. Will keep you posted.
great video bro! I have a AT2020 and this video is helping me to record drums at home. Which DAW and plugins are u using? I couldn't recognize just watching the video
I'm super impressed at the balance between all of the drums. That placement really seems to work well.

I really like that sound you got! Nice video
Great video, as Adam said, I’ve been struggling using my at2020 , the only solution I had was using it as an overhead mic.
Thanks Hugh
Would this method work with the USB version of the AT2020
Yes. Check out Brooks Farris’ video about it

Nice work, mate! A little question, ¿what hi-hats did you use for this video? Thanks!
14” HHX X-Celerator
What does he mean by "flat relative to the ground"?
That the mic is parallel to the ground, not angled up or down.

I think it’s some kind of logic or garage band one of the Apple ones
he’s using Logic with the basic compressor and EQ that come with it
What software did you use for this? I'm brand new to recording drums and even playing drums! Looks very simple to use!
This is Logic Pro X. It’s big boy GarageBand.

Poplar PDP X7
