Hi I had a similar setup a few years ago. They make a magnetic cell phone or tablet holder that goes into the cd slot. Would be good for your phone too since doesn’t block vents. Other option I do in conjunction is to actually use L brackets and cover it colored duct tape or fabric and slip it into the ends of the dash.
2011 Ford Escape. Don’t have a screen in the dashboard. Bought the Apps 2 cars phone CD mount. Holds my iPad 9.7. Covers the radio controls but it’s fine because I have volume on the steering wheel.
Dude, this is genius, thank you! I was trying to stick mine on to the screen with double sided suction cups but it didn't really work. I've got some velcro in my tool box which I didn't even think of using but it's perfect! Thanks!!

Hi! I did this exact thing you just said ~ its a SUPER strong magnet holder that fits perfectly into the cd player slot ~ only thing is, its SO strong that when I went to remove the carplay unit, it tore the magnetic strip right off the back of the carplay lol! Maybe the sticky side of that magnet wasnt strong enough? It was 3m, so I thought it would stick pretty good to the back of the carplay but nope
I love the simple solution. I have CarPlay in my car, but you pointed out I could have bigger maps screen. I would use Siri to ask it to do stuff.
