Hey big suggestion for anyone looking to do this. Use painters tape first! Any color and then put the velcro on it. This way if you ever decide to remove the velcro you can without having the glue bake in the car into the dash. Something when attaching items to the wall

I was thinking that too especially when temps get 80+ degrees in the summer and the velcro glue gets really slimey and bakes on whatever it's sticking to. Great idea with the painters tape.

@@stopthephilosophicalzombie9017yeah in extreme heat it may get gooey. A tablet mount holder that you put in the cd player might work better as well and not have to worry about the tape

I was worried about replacing my high-end older oasis with this one th-cam.com/users/postUgkxCgPI5O2AtmcHq9SJhgsCGbpAzJAJfrJp but it is surprisingly light and the screen resolution is just as good. I never had the warm light on my old kindle, but i do not use it on the ipad so I will probably not need it. I think the only thing I'll miss is the self-adjusting light, but this is so worth it!

Hi I had a similar setup a few years ago. They make a magnetic cell phone or tablet holder that goes into the cd slot. Would be good for your phone too since doesn’t block vents. Other option I do in conjunction is to actually use L brackets and cover it colored duct tape or fabric and slip it into the ends of the dash.

I love the simple solution. I have CarPlay in my car, but you pointed out I could have bigger maps screen. I would use Siri to ask it to do stuff. Like call people, text someone, etc. I missed how you have iPad audio coming through your car speakers.. I’ll watch again. Way to go, Sir. Great workaround. Remember to take iPad out when you leave car.

Don't listen to these fucking morons commenting - You're 100% correct. The thieves who might look in the vehicle are just going to think it's a useless factory head unit, like so many mfr's are running now. I've been doing it with a 10.1" GalaxyTab on Uber/Lyft for over 3 years and 5000 rides - These dummies who are dogging you haven't done SHIT like you're doing. Stay brazen, stay strong, ignore the sheople - You have to stay outside their herds to get anywhere in this world. Just look at fashion trends for the last 1000 years - That should tell you something. Sheople/lemmings/groupthink/crowd mentality - Whatever you want to call it, they buck change. They don't like your creativity. But you're right, and it's an awesome way to roll with vids/mp3s at your fingertips!

I've been using a tablet Mount that comes out of my cup holder that sits right in front of the screen and I don't know why I never thought of just velcroing the dang thing to the old screen that I don't look at other than the back up camera.
The weight of the tablet makes it wobble around and it is very cluttered and fills up the space. I saw this video and went right out with some Velcro and boom my Highlander has a huge upgrade. I can turn off the screen underneath(for less heat) but I don't think I can keep it off without unplugging the power or something.
I wanted a Pioneer Dex unit but my quote at car toys ended up being almost $2,000 for the deck alone because apparently my Highlander is complicated. *rolls eye*.
I'm not a cheap guy but I love when I get to be cheap and still enjoy good. Thanks for the video.

  • @MS7.7
    @MS7.7 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    About the iPad:
Its was a great idea 5 years ago when andriod HU didn't exist or was really really bad.
-You need to charge your iPad and the wire will look ugly and annoying.
-if you want to switch source on the HU you don't know whats playing, what channel, etc. Also you can't adjust your eq unless your remove the iPad and after your remove it you have ugly looking two black lines on the dash
-you have to unlock it everytime you enter the car
    -you can't have backup camera
    -overheat is very common
    -hotspot for thieves
    -GLARE
-no audio quality improvement since hu didn't change
-it could fall anytime and break and there goes your 300$
    Tip on ipad:
    - you can use assitive touch to adjust the volume or just swipe up.
    - install jailbreak to have features like turn on with ignition
    - add obd2 module to read all car live info and codes
    - put a matt screen sticker to reduce glare
Also if you have voice command to control ac and radio would be much easier.
Goodluck but sorry you should've bought the andriod HU since it has youtube, uber, lyft, etc. + it functions fully as a HU.

Clean solution...but can also consider a device holder via the CD slot

Like your phone magnet dock they make longer strip magnets for this sort of purpose.

You are right, CD slot mount is probably the best way to go. You can mount the ipad so that it sits above your stock display so you don't lose anything and the passenger can tilt it his way if needed. Magnets make removing it so much easier to stash away in your glove box or center console.

I've been doing it with a 10.1" GalaxyTab for years, and I've tried every method I could find for mounting. 1st place is definitely CD Slot Mount. 2nd Place is doubling up on the vent magnets/steel stickers on the back of the tablet. 3rd place is Velcro. And the very first time I mounted one I used those bendable-foam-coated-coat hanger type things from the craft stores; worked well, and made for a neat looking frame, but much more difficult to remove/take with you/replace.

0:21 Make sure your phone plan includeds tethering and you have a charger for your phone because tethering takes up a lot of power.

CooLoserTech make sure you don't forget your iPad in your car on a hot day. If the car heats up in the sun the adhesive of the velcro strips will definitely liquify and fall off.

Had the same car bro, loved it. I'm a Hyundai/ Kia guy for life now. Traded it in for a genesis G80 which I love even more. Surprised you dont like the infotainment as Hyundai/Kia are known for having the absolute best, but hey to each their own. Waiting for the 2019 Stinger and going to trade in my G80. Hope your channel blows up bro, when it does stop up to the Stinger. You can get the 4 banger for cheaper than what that SXL cost you, or a base 3.3 GT for about 5G more.

I agree, I sold my 2012 Subaru WRX hatchback after I had this Kia Optima for 2 weeks. Kia is not even close to what they used to be. Now you can be proud and loud about the name, it's crazy and even considering a future electric Kia with how good the tech options are on this 2012. Kia is ahead and I love it

It may not work in the hot summer especially in Texas, the velcro will fall off in heat

Maybe you should also glue striped to you front window to make it go faster.
