    Ya know, buddy, seems like talking to one's self and the objects around you is just the way of all styrene. Cursing at the electronics (I just wired up the lighting for that Heller Eiffel Tower and thought I'd go hoarse cursing everything) and the old dosey-do of one step forward and four steps backward... PTSD kicking in... must stop... That ultrasonic knife is the next word! That handled your little problem as sweet as one could hope for. An invisible repair to the hull too. Nice. Came along at just the right time. I had visions of crow-barring open the hull and seeing the broken-tooth pattern of busted plastic... nope! A little spendy but is worth every penny. (A blessing on Mr. Segal's house!)
    Your color scheme is truly deep-space Klingon all-night repair crew! Lovely. I also really enjoy seeing someone else sweat and fume over producing a mask-- so similar to when I try to figure out brass shapes. Same problems. I just like watching someone else go through it.
    "Stupid--?" Lou, stupid? I know... the urge to actually hit yourself with a frying pan can be overwhelming. Try "ill-considered" or a "joyous scheme that went awry." Saving one more wire was a noble, big even gesture. So it blew your beautiful wire job buried deeply within a beautiful paint job... BOOM! Poof! Smells like electronic hell... Sorry, did I go too far? If I told you one of the bone-headed things I did on that Eiffel Tower, you'd be laughing right along with me! Laughing or crying.
    Looking forward to next week, Lou!

    When you started discussing the grounding wire problem, I KNEW you'd go back in and fix it somehow. One thing I've learned over the years is that you are NOT one to do something half-@ssed. :D

    Looking really good Lou. I have to say that when you talked about connecting all your ground wires together I thought "I hope you check the wiring diagram first" but knew that it was too late to say anything as you would have done that part days ago! For future reference, most circuits of this type do not "drive" the LED's from the positive side but rather switch the ground side (it has to do with current capacity and electrical properties of the components). When you mentioned the fit of the engine cover and said that it was not good but that was only to be expected from a kit of this age it was particularly relevant to me. My current project is the Polar Lights 1/350 NX-01 Enterprise which is also an old kit and I am finding that the moulding details are very soft and the parts fitting is appropriate to say the least! Still, with this in mind I have realised that it is impossible to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear and have adjusted my expectations and time I'm willing to put into the kit accordingly. I have, however, got the correct set of your masks for it! 👍😁

      I followed Ralph's diagram to the letter...until I got carried away.

    Dammit Lou! Now you’ve done it! I have to scrap my entire build and get a sonic cutter to do it all over again! Or I’ll just get one for future builds, looks amazing! Great bird of prey build too! 😉

    After the wiring mistake you deserved a whole evening of stiff drinks! Very nice recovery. I just had terrible thoughts of myself trying to pry apart the model to fix that wiring. I would have butchered it. Lucky you had the Sonic Cutter

    Looks great Lou. The one I’m building is from search for Spock and there are no strobes on that one. All those lights are just on. Yeah, I hate when people point that kind of thing out too. 😮Anyway, it looks amazing. I need to get a sonic cutter, what a great tool to have.

    I've built two of these kits a long time ago. When I heard about the working hing kit I wanted to use one in a new build but never got around to it. Thanks for showing how to do it
    Lou.
    And I heard the sonic screwdriver. Still pulling my teeth off the ceiling.😆

    Looking great so far. Too bad about the grounds. Like a couple of other people mentioned rather than thinking electricity flows from positive to negative it really is negative to positive. Electrons are negatively charged and so they go to the positive side of the power source. Great to see how seamlessly you recovered from your wiring adventures.

    if you made two fins and the mating fins out of metal or brass, you could conduct through those...not need for wires.

    maybe conceal and protect the wires with heat shrink , i want to put aztek detailing on my tos shuttlecraft, do you have any masks for that ? is there another set that will do the job ?

    • @aztekdummy
      @aztekdummy  ปีที่แล้ว

      i have a set of generic plating that might do.

    Lou thanks for the heads up on the sonic cutter, looks like the best thing since sliced bread, how would it go with some fibre glass ?, reason I ask is that recently I picked up a 1/650 scale Sovereign class Enterprise this would help greatly with the clean up , your opinion would be welcomed .

    • @aztekdummy
      @aztekdummy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      that would be a good test. I'll look to see if i have any fiberglass scrap i can test on. my only concern is the thickness. that 650 sovereign has some really thick spots and this works best on thin materials like styrene

    I have a question about where you get the black Tulip from I was thinking that it might work as “Tar” on some model railroad buildings I looked for it on GOOGLE and only found paintings of black Tulips

    • @aztekdummy
      @aztekdummy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you get it from Walmart in the craft section. it is a fabric paint , so you will find it with the tie dye stuff and glitter.

    Its a real vibra-blade.
    It uses a sonic toothbrush to vibrate a blade. I have one i made 3-4 years ago. Mine is cordless and 1/3 the size.
