  • In news you might not have been expecting from me… meet Ruby the Cavapoo puppy, the teeny tiny newest member of our family and quite possibly the love of my life 🥹🥰
In this video I share some snippets from her first few weeks at home, including settling in and caring for a puppy recovering from severe injuries while also managing my own chronic illness.
Ruby is an F1 Ruby Red Cavapoo and she came from a lovely breeder who we found through Pets4Homes. We brought her home in April and she's still only a baby, but her life been quite an eventful one so far and she's been keeping us on our toes. Her injuries will take time and care to heal, but she’s such a happy girl with a big personality and we already love her to pieces.
Obviously you all know I have a chronic illness and the decision to get a puppy wasn’t taken lightly. In this video, I also share some of our thought process and problem solving, and why we've decided to do this now. She’s my Mum’s dog and will mostly be living with her, but circumstances mean she’s also going to be spending a lot of quality time with me. And I absolutely cannot wait.
I’m already thoroughly exhausted but can already see the rewards of all the work that’s gone into settling her in and starting some training. This is such a new experience for me (formerly a cat lady through and through) but Ruby is the definition of joy. This last year has been indescribably hard in so many ways, and continues to be tough, but she’s the best silver lining a person could wish for. I can’t wait for the adventures ahead 🥹❤️

My name is Pippa Stacey and I’m a disabled writer, presenter, and communications consultant based in York. I enjoy theatre, books, and fundraising, and can most often be found wearing some form of pyjamas and drinking all the tea.
I acquired my chronic illness as a young adult and struggle daily with the challenges of living my best life alongside managing a debilitating health condition. However, I’ve finally learned that I don’t have to ‘overcome’ or ‘defy’ my illness in order to be successful, and there’s truly nobody’s path to follow but your own.
You can find out more by visiting www.lifeofpippa.co.uk, and subscribe to see videos about working, travelling, and learning to make the most of life alongside my chronic illness. Thank you so much for being here!

Gorgeous! 'So sweet. Glad she knows security feels safe and loved. It is so humbling the way dogs can still love and get over being mistreated.
I am busy vicariously stealing other peoples' dogs online, as my life goes something like...
    1) Sees dog
    2) Wants dog
    3) Knows would be good dog mum
    4) Accepts ME and health means I am not well enough to have a dog. Plus
    5) Can't afford a dog (vet bills are crazy and cat is costing me a small fortune )
    6) Knows cat would not tolerate a dog and yet
    1) sees Dog (Repeat)

That list was the story of my life for many years, you have my empathy! Feel free to vicariously live through anything you find online here! She wasn't mistreated (it was an unfortunate accident before she came to us) but I'm so glad she's starting to feel less anxious - us ME-folk know all too well the trouble that an overactive immune system can have 🙈🐶

I don't want to share too much about her injuries as they happened before she came home to us and were an unfortunate accident in an otherwise really loving household, but the vet thinks the fur loss near her eyes and nose could be from an underlying skin condition called puppy strangles!

Aww! I share a name with your sweet puppy!😊 2 years ago I got my own dog. When I was little I had a chihuahua because I got seizures, so we needed a dog to be able alert my parents in case of an emergency. I started to really miss her when I got sick. So my parents got me a mini dachshund for my birthday. I named her Maple, because she is the color of a maple donut (and long like one). Like your puppy she comes and lays by me throughout the day and sleeps with me a night. Funny thing is that I’m gluten free and we found out Maple can’t have dog food with gluten in it so she’s perfect for me.😂 Maple also gets really overwhelmed usually around lots of people. I usually just cuddle her and reassure her everything is all right. She is like a baby and loves affection and attention.
Puppies are so much work especially with chronic illness. My family cares for Maple because I’m not able. It gets easier as they get a bit older. Its totally worth it because you get a sweet little friend to keep you company.🥰

@@LifeOfPippa that's exactly the takeaway I had from watching your video. ☺️
I showed Hubby, too - we are in that "talk through all of the possibilities" stage. Think he fell in love at first sight when he saw Ruby. 😀
