    My lucy girl looked so out of it when i picked her up, poor thing couldn't even lift her head😢and her whimpering made me instantly in tears. I cuddled her and rocked her and her whimpering stopped. We used the surgical suit as she looked so miserable in her cone. She slept alot the 1st 2 days and after that she was wanting to play. That was the hard part keeping her from jumping and off the stairs. She recovered, thank god its over😊

    I take cones off for potty, play, sleep and cuddles. All the time Im closely supervising, the pup doesnt have an opportunity to nibble the wound, so give them a break from a cone. Honestly cones cause more stress for some dogs, so look into a post-surgery onesie or a soft cone

    When i had my year old female spayed, i bought her a surgical recovery suit from Amazon, it does up along the back and protects the wound, so no need to wear a cone which she would hate.

    Awww cute puppy. I have a 5.5 month Weimaraner and we are just beginning Day 2. Keeping control of a 50 pound puppy post surgery is a lot of work but she’s worth it! She basically spent the afternoon of Day 1 (surgery day) in the kennel or a potty break/water intake break. She definitely didn’t want food the first day!. I’m walking into Day 2 with confidence lol. 8 more days to go and the collar can come off! (I’ll still be watching her with licking and jumping though). Now to watch your updates. Thanks for sharing! The only advice I would offer is a blanket over the crate at night to make it dark. Mine has a Ruffland kennel and it’s like a dark den inside. Congrats on finishing your spay journey lol … we are getting there!

    Thank you for sharing. Our cavapoo looks just like your pup. We just had her spayed yesterday, at 6 months 15 days. She isnt too happy with the cone, but shes doing ok so far. I had her perfectly crate trained until i had to leave a few weeks, and my wife and daughter decided to spoil her and let her sleep with them in bed. 😳🤷‍♂️😄 i came back and sleeping in a crate was not an option. I spent sleepless nights training her. I guess i need to do it again if we are going to get her back crate trained...😏🙂
    Anyways, she hasnt been wining at all, yet anyways. She has no issues eating and going potty outside. But the cone thing she isnt too happy about. I may try the surgical suit thing. But, i talked to someone at petsmart and they said they are good, but the dog may still try to lick their wound, and the material gets wet, therfore making the wound moist. So have to watch that. Thanks again for all your videos...we love our dogs dont we? 🙂🙂🙂

    Well, I just adopted a dog and I bought a very nice pen for $60 made out a heavy plastic with the door from amazon and I have a crate but I leave the door open wants to be behind bars especially when you have a cone on your head? So so what worked for me is what you did after the fourth day or so just leave the dog in the bed with the cone on in the living room or your bedroom that reduces 100% of the stress I believe. But very good video. I enjoyed it very informative.

    She looks like my Tilly and my Tilly is 9½yrs and only now just had it done. I left it as long as I felt I could, for her bones. I didn't want her to be open to osteoporosis when older. That was my personal choice though. She is well and happy we are on day two. Bit uncomfortable but done all the bodily needs and has had a few tiny walks. Eating really well. Had to get it done now because she gets so hormonal and has been having fake pregnancies last few times. Also had a few little seizures which I know are due to hormones. I put a neck scarf band, a cotton one over her stitches and it stretches around her tummy nicely, as the baby grow she was put in was so tight. I just make sure she doesn't lick as I'm with her always, it works for us both. Can't wait for her to be bouncing around playing again.
    God bless ✨💛✨

    It’s okay to let your dog sleep out of the crate. They should graduate from sleeping in a crate at night to having a bed on the floor. It’s a good thing! Our pup stopped sleeping in her crate at 6months of age. The crate will always be there if needed.

    Thanks for the video. Just got my pup spayed today. Feel sad that’s she’s in pain. She’s quite quiet but she is having some trouble sleeping. They gave her a suit to wear, had to wash it once already. Going to give her medicine in the morning as well. It’s going to be hard to keep her still when she’s feeling better, she usually has tons of energy. Jumping, running, playing with my other dog. Can’t wait until these 2 weeks are over. I feel bad but she’s a small dog, and I don’t want her to get jumped on when she’s in heat. All it takes is a few moments for it to happen. I’d be scared to bring her anywhere.

    There has been debates weather or not spraying or neutering your animals early disrupts their hormones in development. Causing physiological issues down the line. Vs waiting till they are over the age of 6 to spay or neuter after their growth hormones have developed. There is also the ethical/political view in overpopulation and being “responsible” pet owners. Really an interesting topic to consider.

    My little Shorkey had her surgery about 33 hours ago and she just had her first bowel movement but it was very small because I think it was painful for her. She cried. Our girl will be getting spayed this week. One of the aftercare recommendations is to avoid stairs. We have three steps down to our door to go outside. Did you have to deal with that too, and did it cause any issues for you? Just wondering if I should be carrying her up and down those steps every time she needs to go potty.

    • @NessaandSophie
      @NessaandSophie  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm glad our video was helpful. You do definitely want to avoid stairs during the healing process, when it came to going up and down stairs (regardless of whether it was outside or inside) I just carried Sophie. She's a very curious and energetic puppy and I didn't want her getting hurt while healing up from her surgery so I always had her on a leash outside and when it was time to go inside I would lift her up the stairs on our deck so she wouldn't have to jump (the leash helped prevent any excited jumping up stairs). I didn't find it was an issue, you just have to keep an eye out because your puppy may reach a point where they feel like they can jump and climb but it's still too early in the recovery time. I hope this helps and I hope your puppy has a speedy recovery.

    I'm seeking a bit of advice regarding my puppy. We pick her up Wednesday but the shelter has insisted that she cannot be adopted out until she is spayed. I'm concerned about caring for her post-op when she has only ever known living on a concrete floor (no toilet training/no crate training). She'll be introduced to an entirely new environment, and people she has only met once - on day one post-op! Which I'm worried will be a horribly scary experience for her since she is also a rescue puppy.
    We also have about an hour and a half drive home the day of her surgery, poor girl.

      I'm so glad you found our video helpful and that it made you feel better prepared. Here in this video, Sophie was 10lbs and now at a year old I'm not too sure (we've got a vet appointment in a month to find that out), but I think she's probably around 13lbs. Best of luck with your puppy's surgery!

      I was worried with Sophie as well but our vet was really good with answering all of my questions and going over what the surgery entails and her recovery. Have you voiced any of your concerns with your vet so you can feel a little better with the surgery? I know it's a big deal having your pet go in for a surgery especially when they've never had one before, I hope it all goes well and that she has a speedy recovery. 😊

    I hate animal but I am not cruel. My sister dump a dog on me. An 8 month old(perhaps), dog. The dog is not neutered and I obviously didnt like having puppies. I am terrified of what to expect to care for a dog getting surgery. I hope from this video, that dog doing well for the spay. I respect people who love animals are helping their pets recovering instead of enjoying only the good stuff❤

      I guess different vets have different ways of performing this surgery. I actually thought that we would have to keep her overnight, but we just had to drop her off in the morning and then could pick her up anytime in the afternoon before the vet closed for the night.

    • @puppydogs68
      @puppydogs68 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, it’s quite the opposite, actually. Spaying and neutering dogs is supposed to help prevent diseases and infections that occur in those areas. But you must monitor your dog to make sure they don’t scratch or lick the area after the surgery.

    Why are you keeping your dog in a crate? I don't know why people do this. I've had dogs all of my life and never once raised one in a crate. I think this is some new idea and I really don't understand it at all. If my dog had cried all night, I would have been on the phone to the vet asking if this is normal. It could be she is relating the crate to the cage at the vet. I hope she is okay now.

    De-sexing a puppy is so cruel. Medical malpractice actually. Only adult dogs who are. fully developed mentally and physically should be candidates for de-sexing. Glad there is now a new trend for caring owners to leave their dogs intact for life for better health.
