    One thing I noticed right away is the short focus throw which is more similar to a normal lens. The summaron focus is so long and awkward and goes all the way to the top of the lens your fingers block the viewfinder.

    Thank you for this video. A very nice overview. I would definitely like to see a comparison between the Leica 28 Summaron and this new TT Artisan 28/5.6. My only Leica 28mm M lens is a 28mm f/6.3 Hektor, definitely an oldy but in excellent condition. I jumped on the preorder bandwagon for the TT 28/5.6 thinking of it as a possible upgrade from the 28 Hektor. I do have a very nice vintage Leica 35mm f/3.5 Summaron (LTM) so the TT 28 will make a nice companion in that they look near identical from a distance.

    When I first heard of the Leica lens I was hopeful that it would be substantially cheaper than the other M lenses, but it was actually more expensive than the Summarits. That's fine, but although it's an interesting size/spec there are so many more interesting lenses in every system at that price range that I could never justify it.
    This looks good, and I also think it's important to support quality newcomers, and especially to support trade with China during a time that there is a propaganda in overdrive from the usual suspects to attack them.
    Thanks again

    Haven't had a summaron lens before, however it doesn't seems too good for me just by looking at the mtf chart, the edge image quality is just really bad even the max aperture is 5.6... even not as good as some other point and shoot camera's 28mm lens such as minolta tc1... and the price is quite high though.     if you want the leica get it I’m assuming both will still have different characters and in that regards no clear winner;
    the lens could be a bargain and a great performer for what it is will i buy it honestly no, will i use it to take photos if i given the chance absolutely so for someone who wants a summaron but can’t justify the price which is actually logical specially priced higher than Elmarit buy this one you will get more than what you paid for it and maybe save your money for a well rounded 28 later from voigt or leica.

    I have lots of Chinese equipment because I really don't have options. There isn't anything intrinsically wrong with Chinese manufacturers although I'll say that I really don't believe their quality control is a high priority in some areas. Having said that, I'll say that I DO have options when it comes to M mount lenses. A Chinese lens will NEVER be attached to my Leica or Voigtlander Bessa cameras. Voightlander and Zeiss are just too good if you can't affort Leica lenses (which I can't afford.) You get what you pay for.

    Why would you buy cheap lenses for Leica cameras? Get a cheaper camera and better lenses

    It's a 100% copy of the summaron, only difference is the filter size, the Leica has 34mm. A shame that it is allowed to bring a copied lens like this on the market. Picked up my Summaron yesterday, I'm happy.........no Chinese wannabe on my camera's.

      The optics vary, though. The Summaron consists out of 6 lens elements arranged strictly symmetrically around the aperture in 4 groups. The TTArtisan one is constructed of seven elements in four groups, including two high-refractive index elements and a single low-dispersion element.

      I could care less if it’s a Leica lens or not, however, I flat out refuse to purchase products made in China. Support countries that treat all of their citizens well, pay fair wages to workers, and protect the environment.

      @@WayneKnight_Rider If only any of the “superpowers” would live up to your standards, the world would be a much, much better place. Even Leica produces the Summaron in Portugal - wonder why.
