    I think this lens really excels at shooting bnw film. The lower contrast really lets each individual bnw film stock stand out on it's own merits, rather than question how much contrast our expensive super asph perfect lens added. Otherwise if I shoot color, especially digital, I definitely prefer my ultrons. Great run down Benj!

    I have the silver version and use it on my M10-R black chrome, it looks great with or without the hood, pics are nice and sharp, however I think I would go for the VM f2 Ultron II because of closer focus for one and better optics as well. I have the VM 35mm Ultron II and that is my “go to” lens for daily walks. Great job on this review, as usual.

    Which handgrip do you have for your black Leica? I'm lookin for a nice one for my M10 Monochrom!

    Interesting overview. 100 cm close-focusing is common for old Leica lenses, including the modern Summaron-M. Perhaps you should try some vintage glass.

    • @benjhaisch
      @benjhaisch  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have! As a new lens though, I would have wished they could have engineered it to be able to focus a bit closer as well

  • @mynewcolour
    @mynewcolour 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    For use on film I went with the Voigtlander 25mm F4 VM as an alternative. With a hood it’s just a little smaller, wider, less-slow and I preferred the ergonomics. It focusses close (closer than the rangefinder actually).

    I’ve been using the silver version on my Fuji X-Pro1 with a 7artisans close focus M mount adapter. The lens looks great on that body, and the adapter helps with the “1 meter minimum focus” issue by basically adding a second focus ring to use when wanting to focus closer.

    I have the silver version. Very small, no issues as yet with images from a M10. Plus it looks & works very well on a Fuji X-T20. For the money, I think you are spot on, it looks and feels right for a vintage looking lens. Great video's, thanks....

    If you’re shooting say F8/F11? Even though you’re pushing the minimum distance aren’t you still going to have sharpness? To an extent.

    Nice video! Even with an understanding that your silver might not even be available in production, do you have a clear preference between that and the black in terms of flare performance?

    • @FFVoyager
      @FFVoyager 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's not the 'same price' - the Voigtlander is about twice as long, twice as heavy and, when I bought my TTArtisan, about three times as expensive.

      People with leica's aren't going to be worried about price of the ultron and to get handicapped as a result. To me the main reason for this lens is how it looks and for the people who don't care about faster aperture and don't mind everything in focus all the times.

    At 1meter you still have like 60cm DOF at f5.6. So it isn't all that bad

  • @marcp.1752
    @marcp.1752 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Please review also the 7Artisans 28/5.6 - common Review knowledge is, it's sharper, better IQ than the TTArtisan 28/5.6, but a bit bigger, and less cute. Same goes for the 7Artisans 35/1.4 Wen vs TTArtisan 35/1.4 ASPH, TTA is the better lens from it's looks, but from picture quality, 7Artisans wins.

      @@benjhaisch Sorry Benji, i've missed that somehow. Its only, that i am disappointed from TTArtisan another time, their shiny-new TTA 35 F2 ASPH is not, what i've expected. It's too huge, too big, does have onion rings bokeh, and overall not what i wanted to see into a new 35mm F2 500 bucks lens. Sad, but true.
      For the record, i had serveral times contact with TTA Asia by mail , and also Cloe from TTA via whatsapp, asking for an all black design of their new 28/5.6 M Lens, back into the day, they responded to consider this, but had not given any release date.

      Well you are comparing a 1950s vs 70s style lens. People do want different things. In the UK the Ultron is £700 whilst this lens is £230. As a snapshot/street lens it is quite nice I think.

      @@mynewcolour if I wanted an old vintage lens I would just buy a real one and for less than this one. 🤷🏻‍♂️ and it would be of much higher quality. From what we see here and what I’ve already heard, TTartisan can’t even keep lens variation anywhere close to one another. Getting one of these is a crap-shoot. 😅
