I went through ACL and meniscus surgery 1 year and 3 months ago. Meniscus got stitches and I'm pretty sure that they didn't stick properly because of weight put too early to a knee few days post-surgery. Week ago I played hockey first time with kneeband and it felt so good. No pain even when getting knee twisted! Day after hockey knee got swollen and I've experienced little pain for about a week now. I'm thinking about getting my meniscus "trimmed", but right now my finance doesn't allow it. Maybe physiotherapy is the best option right now. Main problem is fluid around knee joints after heavy, knee straining exercise (Hockey, long walks)

If this comes up it's not a big deal and you'll be back on your feet quickly !

I'm 69 years old and I play a lot of competitive doubles tennis. But, I had meniscus surgery 14 weeks ago, and I have tried to get back on the court. Even at my age, before the surgery, I was very quick on the court and could get to many balls rather easily. I am loving the videos. I am about to undergo meniscus surgery for a bucket-handle tear. My doctor recommended to first try and go for a reconstruction (sewing method), but if he finds that the tear is really bad, he will go for a partial menisectomy. I had a meniscus surgery 2 years back.. The torn section was removed and I bounced back to my usual long walks and moderate running in about 2 months. Off late I'm doing a lot of stairs-about 20 minutes daily for cardio. Is this wise? Also can I do lunges and squats as part of my fitness routine? Will really appreciate if someone can advise me on this.

Mr.Geier sorry again. I'm 16 years old,and i recently had a bucket tear that was repaired. When can i return to running sports like track or basketball. And is there a chance of the tear re-tearing. If so, what can i do to reduce the chance. Also, how long should i wait. Thank you. And you are doing great work with your videos.
+David Romer Generally it takes 4-6 months to return to sports after a meniscus repair. Yes there is a chance of re-tearing it. Studies show it happens 10-25% of the time. Good luck!
what can i do to improve the bending of my knee post partial lateral meniscectomy? I am 12 days post op. I am able to fully straighten my knee although I still walk with a limp but my knee can still only bend a maximum 90 degree angle.
i had a total meniscectomy about 20 years ago.. after a skiing accident. I never had any post surgery rehab at all. I have chronic arthritis in both knees due to 30+ years of soccer just prior to the knee injury. my knee at times buckles on me and walking up steps at times I can feel the strain in the bad knee. however at 56 i have taken up martial arts 6 months ago..and the knee seems to becoming stronger slowly..although at times training or not it can feel like its going to pop at any given time.. (thats happened since op though).. but it seems to be getting stronger. i manage to do the kicks i need to do ok, i feel the pressure moreso in the stances needed in the martial arts while bending on the bad knee. My question is this..... After 20 years (in which ive not exercised at all after my soccer career at all) is there any excercises i can do to strengthen my bad knee, so i can feel confident getting up those steps better and doing my chosen sport now? thanks in advance for any tips.
@@vishalthakur5387 no I didn't lift weights I have heart issues and advised not to only for that reason, I run at training.. its been 4 years since my post, I've continued martial arts have a black belt now and my legs are pretty good..not bad for my age.there is a lot of twisting as you can imagine and its fairly heavy work on knees but i got there.. you are young.. the good thing is you didn't have a full meniscectomy so still have some cushion there. You may bet arthritis in 30yrs, but i've had chronic arthritis for about that long already and yet as i said still doing things that many your age do even now. I played a LOT of games of footy in over 30 years thats why the damage, the ski accident was just what did the meniscus.. so if you aren't doing soccer/footy/netball or sports reknowned for knee injuries..you could be ok for a long time.. remember most old ppl get arthritis who never do sports.... My daughter is 20 and shes also had 2 meniscus ops in the last 2 years, first one stitched it and saved it...but she redid the injury again after i believe bad physio (get a sports physio not just a 'physio) make a plan for the future with them with what you plan to do sport wise in the future.. dont just go do excercises with no future plan made with them.. her 2nd op they were going to take the lot out but her age was a big factor in them saving some (like yourself)..so shes in the same again bracket pretty much and same situation as you are .. she just re hurt her knee again tonight. and her good knee is bad now also from favouring the bad one. I would advise don't go back to anything EARLY.. if you get told 12months to fix it... add 6 more to whatever they tell you. you are still young and have plenty of time to do your thing...rushing back isn't worth it.. it will just delay things years.. she is finding out this i think she went back to training too early and the bad physio advise on top..was a recipe for disaster.. hope some of this helps.....but if i can go 3o years with NO meniscus after extreme sports and still be going now at over 60... i wouldnt worry too much if i was you.. just get a good dr/physio and don't accept bad advice or one that is just there for your money.. good luck oh and get an excercise bike... and running isnt bad.. walk in swimming pools etc.. avoid twisting movements until its healed fully.

My son tore his meniscus at 6yrs old.... just had surgery (arthroscopic, not repair) in August and we were told (by doc) he should stay off of it for 6 weeks. We've done that and haven't yet gotten a call from Physical therapy yet. Today he is nearly 8 weeks post-op and can't fully straighten his leg. He needs physical therapy, so I've been researching. -- He can walk on it now... but he walks on his tip-toes with a limp. -- Shouldn't he be able to straighten it after surgery? Any suggestions on exercises to help straighten it? Anything i should be concerned about? I'd really appreciate the feedback. Thanks

I had meniscus repair 18 days back. My surgeon allowed me to walk wearing braces locked at extension. I need to wear these braces for 8 week. My doubt is i am not able to balance my operated leg . I mean one leg balance for atleast nano second so i can move forward. I need to use stick. Is this normal? Part of recovery process? Any excercise to improve the same?
Thank you for this video. I am literally laying in bed after having had a meniscectomy and was wondering this very thing. I went in for a repair, but the Dr. said afterward that it wasn't possible. I'll see him again next week for a follow up and will hopefully find out how much he took out and where. I'm a bit sad that a repair wasn't possible because I felt that I was led to believe that it was. But I really want to get back to running and hiking so hopefully this will at least allow me to do that for the foreseeable future.

I had meniscus surgery three months ago and I am still having pain in that area. My job requires me to be on my feet all day. I have been back to the doctor and he said perhaps the soreness is a result of his probing in the area. I am an active person and plan to stay that way. I have not played golf, which I love, to give things more time. I’m wondering how much I can expect at this point of getting back to regular exercise. Comments are appreciated.

In the year 2002 at the age of 20, I got injury in my left knee. After a physiotherapy and medication got better, and resume normal life but after 9 years in August 2011 my knee got struck and MRI showed that teared part of meniscus struck between the knee and there was little damage in my ACL too. Then I undergone meniscus teared surgery and back to normal life after 8 weeks of rest. After 2 years I started slogging and started to play badminton as well. Some time I feel mild paid but ways I use the patella stabilizer and feel better. But I always be careful during my game . Now I'm planning to Stop badminton and thinking to start the gear bicycling to keep active.
Thank you for posting this video. I'm 60, love to exercise (High Intensity Interval Traiing, Pilates, minor weight lifting, zumba, etc.) but just had meniscus surgery where a bit of degeneration was found, along with a couple of tears, and my surgeon said that during the first month I can't even walk my dog! I'm so depressed and nervous about my cardiovascular health too. My knee still hurts when I'm up on it for too long; just like it was before surgery. I actually do less exercise, because before surgery I could do floor moves on my knees but not now, since I have incisions that are still healing. I've done some upper body work during the past week and a half, since I'm going stir crazy and losing muscle tone. Are there good moves for the lower body I can safely do. And what about cardio. The stationary bike is a little uncomfortable still. I'm not overweight and it is 4 weeks post surgery, today.

Sir , my age is 22 and I have partial menisctomy 20 to 30% ..I love to play cricket should I have not play cricket too much to prevent knee replacement?? & In how many days I started running??
I'm 64 and had my second surgery 13 days, ago. My first surgery was at age 30, and was back to skating and running fairly quickly. This time around, I was back to bicycling within a week without any discomfort, and walking without a limp after about 4 days. Flexibility is pretty much back to normal. However, extended deliberate walking is uncomfortable after about 10 minutes. That's my experience, so far. In regard to arthritis down the road, my doc saw very little arthritis 30 years after my initial scope.
Aamir Khan I had two tears, one on each side of the knee cap. They weren't repaired, and we're "trimmed." Stated he trimmed away about 15 to 20%. It's been 6 weeks since the surgery. All is good, but I need to walk slowly when going longer distances, i.e. County Fair yesterday.

If yes, how long should I take to do recovery? Please respond. thank you sir!
Yes you can off course try u run smoothly if u can run and can do squat then there’s no problem ok

Hi! I had an arthroscopy due to a plica. I am almost 3 weeks now after the surgery. Can I swim now?
Can platelet enriched plasma credibly improve meniscus or knee cartilage?
Best to do knee arthroscopy
Almost all meniscus surgeries now are arthroscopic - fortunately.
I am able to fully straighten my knee although I still walk with a limp but my knee can still only bend a maximum 90 degree angle.
how are you feeling a year out?
I just had my meniscus surgery 11-12-2021 after he got in there he seen both of my meniscus in my left knee was torn
I’m still in the same amount of pain as before my surgery. It’s been 3 weeks today

i had a total meniscectomy about 20 years ago.. after a skiing accident.
I also lost arround 70% of my lateral meniscus and i am 25
Worried about my future
In these 20 yrs did you ran or lift weights ?
I would advise don't go back to anything EARLY.. if you get told 12months to fix it... add 6 more to whatever they tell you. you are still young and have plenty of time to do your thing...rushing back isn't worth it.. it will just delay things years.. she is finding out this i think she went back to training too early and the bad physio advise on top..was a recipe for disaster.. hope some of this helps.....but if i can go 3o years with NO meniscus after extreme sports and still be going now at over 60... i wouldnt worry too much if i was you.. just get a good dr/physio and don't accept bad advice or one that is just there for your money.. good luck
oh and get an excercise bike... and running isnt bad.. walk in swimming pools etc.. avoid twisting movements until its healed fully.

Biker Saif. Your username is familiar, you may have already answered a question for me on another knee video. My Dr. wants to remove 80% posterior horn and 50-75% from the body. There is also some degree of ACL tearing that will not be addressed. Also, full thickness articular cartilage loss in medial compartment. Should I even consider going through surgery? If so, my concern is my ability to walk and how it might affect my gait. Thank you
Menisectomy to lateral or medial or both ?,I have injured both meniscuses,is that possible to get pre injury conditions after surgery?

Thanks
Sorry, picked the wrong TH-cam Account to post from. My name is Aaron.
+My Radius Church Generally we allow patients to straighten their knee after meniscus surgery. You might ask his surgeon, though.

I just had meniscus surgery on Friday 10/27.. Before the injury i used to ride bikes and use the eleptical machine and at the gym..so it is possible to go back to those activities after a while??
Were you able to go back?
I had a bucket handle lateral meniscus repair surgery about a month ago, and have been going to PT for roughly 4 weeks now. 90 degree flexion is painful and it feels like I hit a wall once I reach that point. How far in recovery until I can go back to the gym working out like I had before the tear. (I am an active college student)

Often it takes patients 2-6 weeks after ACL surgery to walk with a normal gait and no limp. Good luck!

Hey! How long did it take you to regain full mobility? I'm 6 weeks post-op and having the same problem. Please tell me it gets better soon😩
+Leslie Cass It’s almost impossible to predict if a meniscus can be repaired before surgery, unfortunately.

How's your knee now?
Great video, and common sense answer. I am having discomfort on
knee 3 year after meniscus surgery. My doctor told me only 20% was removed. I am just worried if I am developing an arthritis.

I have meniscus + acl surgery can i run?
How is it?
