Grannie did this back in my childhood in 1950s I remember coming in from school as her cottage was very nearby in the village... I would always have Something to eat (always, starving nothing changed there then 🍰😅) and proper dense bread pudding cold would hit the spot till supper.. Thanks again for the memories GEOFF
Now that's a blast from the past 😃 My mother made it, and a local Baker did a good version of it. I've made it myself, but not for a while now. Brilliant recipe, Geoff
Morning Geoff. This is a new one on me. Looks like a light fruit cake. Aunty used to make a fruit cake but would use advocaat instead of eggs, That was spectacular.
HI Cornz38. It is actually very heavy, as you might expect with bread soaked in milk, eggs and butter. It is very good indeed. I like the advocaat idea.
SOrry Geoff, when i said light, i meant to say "pale" or light coloured. I think that's what reminded me. It was a pale fruit cake, not a dark xmas kind. I remember the cherries (whole glace), the golden sultanas, the orange peel, the crunchy sugar topping and the moist sponge that had "booze" as she called it. Of course i didn't know what advocaat was and it was only years later my mum told me that was her secret. @@geoffsbakingblog
Heheheh. At xmas i make pint sized snowballs with about 20 maraschino cherries on a long skewer.. I love the stuff.. Probably my auntie and her cake getting me addicted at about 10 years old.@@geoffsbakingblog
Hi Geoff, oh my gosh, this looks beyond amazing, I never knew Bread Pudding and Bread and Butter Pudding were two different puds!…..this looks ideal for us (as you suggested) to freeze and take out in the morning for a coffee in the afternoon warmed up……can’t wait to make this one…..as you said moving into Autumn, absolutely my favourite time of year, especially for baking all the hearty comfort foods and this Bread Pud in no exception……thank you……lots of love Jan xx❤xx
HI Jan. This was really delicious, even though I say so myself. This sort of cake/dessert is ideal during the colder months. Though we are currently having higher temps I didn't let that stop me from devouring the bread pudding.
Thank you for this video, I’ve started making bread pudding for my dad as mum can’t anymore. He says this is the best he’s ever had. He’s a connoisseur you know 😂 I even decorated a pud with candles for his 83rd birthday recently. Went down very well. X
I have not had Bread Pudding quite like this and it looks very nice so I will give this a try for sure as I quite like the fruit and spices you use int this... Yum!
HI Julie-joy. This is how I always had bread pudding as a child. The other version that is layered in slices and covered with a sort of custard is known as Bread & Butter Pudding in the UK.
@@geoffsbakingblogReally nice Job,I enjoy both,so I'm often trying for something in between! I enjoy raisins but I might also dice a Apple or some other Fruit& I started using Condensed Milk or Carnation Milk recently!

Looks lovely, these old traditional recipes were definitely meant to fill you up. As I'm Coeliac I'll have to make it with gluten free bread so hope it turns out as well as yours.
Hi Birtan Ali. Thanks very much. I think i might work in an airfryer. However the baking time will be less I think and you may need to cover the top part way through baking.
It's a lovely recipe. Almost the same as the one I use although I don't use salt. The one variation I use is to soak the bread first before adding the other ingredients. That way you can squeeze the bread in the milk without squashing all your fruit.
HI Caz. You can wrap the bread pudding tightly in plastic wrap, or put it in an airtight container and store it in the fridge. It will last 4 to 5 days(maybe longer) like that. You can also cut it into portions and wrap tightly in plastic wrap and freeze it for up to three months.
❤A Very Big THANK YOU❤I am going to share this now on both my Facebook and Instagram. Would you possibly be able to show us how to make homemade custard? My Scottish grandmother used to make these mixed fruit cupcakes with a hint of the mixed spice. I think she called them mixed spice buns🤷♀️🤷♀️I don’t suppose you have a recipe for them? I’ve searched on TH-cam and the Internet but couldn’t find anything ❤ Have great week. Looking forward to your next post 😘😘😘😘
Hi Yvonne. You are very welcome. I have done custard in the past, but when next I make a recipe that requires custard I will show it again. I don't think I have had a mixed fruit cupcake, but I did make some Mini(Individual) Christmas Cakes which would fit that purpose nicely.
Hi RThompson. If you look at 'more' below the video you will see at 7:02 a link to preheat the oven to 180C/160C Fan/350F. I always provide a link to the written reipe on my blog as well, that you can click and you will also find the temperature there.

Hi Henrietta. Nothing nicer and a warm kitchen filled with the aroma of a freshly baked bread pudding. Unless it's eating the pudding.
Just finished baking your recipe Geoff can’t wait to try some
I love bread pudding. Thank you Geoff
HI Elizabeth, you are most welcome.
Best bread pudding I have ever seen and I am sure it is delicious. Thanks for the video.
