Back in 1980 I married the most beautiful woman, with such a loving and caring personality. We had a blessed life together for 31 wonderful years. When I met her she was very much into soul and disco music, where as I was into rock (all genres). She never moaned about anything especially my love of rock.
In all the 31 years, where she had to listen to my music, this was as she put it to me, the most wonderful and amazing track the she had heard be playing (usually at full volume!!). Sadly in early 2011 she passed away (after a short illness) in my arms.
For The Love of God by Steve Van was played at her funeral at her request together with Evergreen by Barbra Streisand.
    RIP Christine xx

Steve Vai fasted for 10 days days and on the fourth day he wrote this song. This song is pure emotion...this is a ballad like no other, where artists like the scorpions wrote power ballads about love, steve vai wrote a ballad about humanity and it is the most beautiful song ever concieved on the guitar. Greatest guitar instrumental and rightfully so, no other artist has done a song of such scope with such commitment.

TheSlasherGod yes vai did fast for 10 days to prepare him physically/emotionally/spiritually for the recording of the song cause he kept making mistakes during the recording part, that run at 6:16-6:21 was the trouble, but finally after 10 days of fasting he got that right and in the original P&W album, u can hear him say the word YES!, although barely audible at that 6:21 part of the song, because he got through the hill and everything was easier after that, we have to take note that FTLOG was still being recorded and steve was still trying to master the song... anyway he plays it now like its easy cause he's mastered it

No wonder he is considered a Virtuoso and has been inducted in the hall of fame. I have been a fan of him for many years and saw the G3 tour twice, and it always amazes me how good he is. I have also followed his interviews, and seems to be a very down to earth tpe guy, with hungry for knowledge. He said it himself, if you want to be come a virtuoso, you gotta focus, believe and put in the work. Very Inspiring type of individual.

I don't understand how this song NEVER gets old... No matter which version I listen to, live, studio, every rendition is just as great as the next....to understand how impossibly hard that is to do... It's like seeing a re-run, or re-reading a book a third or 4th time around. When you know
Once you know the result of something, you never can get the feeling of discovery and/or anticipation again.
I also absolutely LOVE the fact that there is LITERALLY no compromise in quality from his live performances compared to his studio recordings whatsoever....
As a fellow musician, and aspiring artists, I know how impossible it is to recreate,( on stage in a LIVE performance,) my my music as opposed to when I'm in my ideal playing state, sitting down.
In the studio, I normally get several, nd I do mean several takes, then I'll narrow it down, to a few, until I feel it's absolutely perfect... On stage, I get no re-dos, no pausing, no re-recordings....

Been listening to music for the last two hours, and was lookng for something to end the night. There are only a few songs/performances that can do that. Music that just drains every last emotion, and leaves you complete. This is one of them. (Yeah, it's like that.)

I have been a Steve Vai fan since he played with DLR, but I hadn't seen him play live, just MTV video's which were always great. Anyway, I was in college in 98' and one day at lunch, I went to the library, as they had very fast internet for the time, so I downloaded this video. Holy smoke!! The way he was interacting with the guitar was like he was communicating with a spiritual entity. He looked like he was receiving gifts from God and they were flowing through him, to his fingers. I had goose bumps through the whole 10:00 minutes. Such a great memory.
