    If I'm remembering correctly, that laser sound is the exact same sound as the Enterprise firing a photon torpedo sound in Star Trek a Final Unity by Spectrum HoloByte for PC. On SNES it was Future's Past and on Genesis it was Echos from the Past. But Sega made their version themselves instead of Spectrum HoloByte making it. I'm like 99% sure that's the photon torpedo sound.

    • @drzerogi
      @drzerogi 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Yep, and the sounds was also used in the original show. If fact it was used in a lot of '80's cartoons.

    • @SonicDMonkey
      @SonicDMonkey 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Pretty sure it's the laser rifle sound in the original X-Com as well.

    • @Gappasaurus
      @Gappasaurus 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      The sound predates all of these by decades, check out the SFX from the 1953 War of the Worlds movie:
      th-cam.com/video/pS1QapooZrM/w-d-xo.htmlm02s
      It was used for the green pulse weapon from the wingtips (for lack of a better term, since they weren’t actual wings) of the ships as opposed to the beam weapon of the periscope eye, which used a more iconic sound:
      th-cam.com/video/pS1QapooZrM/w-d-xo.htmlm35s
      If Trek & all later uses didn’t directly reuse the sound, it was definitely derived from it 🤓

    Loved this game as a kid, always wanted to see the end. Eventually years ago an arcade i lived by started a promotion were Saturdays from 8am-12noon $5 gave you free arcade games, $1 pizza slices, half off Lazer Tag and 75% off mini golf. So once the doors opened at 8 every time you walked up to a game we'd tap the credit button like it was killing a boss and then play through the whole game. SNK vs Capcom was new, DDR was still kinda popular while Guitar Hero was just taking off, initial D was fresh, NFL Blitz Gold, Gauntlet Legends, also this Quake\Unreal Tournament looking shooter that had 8 or 10 cabinets linked for live multiplayer "Death Match" competitions....🤯 then they stopped that special and have since focused more on the Water Park that has been incorporated.😐
    It Was a Glorious 2years.😄👍

    Even though GI Joe originally started with 13 Joes. I believe only a small handful of them have greater significance becoming "fan favourites". I've noticed that Duke, Snake Eyes, Scarlett & Roadblock are shown to be featured the most on games, comics, the shows & even the live action movies. From this 1992 game up until the latest game Operation Blackout together with the 1st Wave of the "Classified" toyline still features these 4 Joes even after almost 30 years. I don't know about you but I'm personally convinced that Duke, Snakes Eyes, Scarlett & Roadblock are the "Main Joes". After all they've always been "fan favourites". They certainly are my favourites along with other majorly significant Joes such as Flint & Lady Jaye.

    I love this game. Played it once in an arcade as a kid and could never find it again. I was so happy to find it on the Pandora's Box. It's a great game to just sit back and relax with.

    I always use "Knowing is half the battle!" at work and everyone just gives me funny looks because I was the only one who saw GI Joe as a kid.

    Apparently this game uses the same perspective as Devastators and it runs on the same hardware as Lethal Enforcers and the Bucky o Hare arcade game. The Super FX chip could have handled that scaling if this had gotten an SNES port though. Too bad Storm Shadow isn't in this game since Snake Eyes is playable. (Also FYI the first G.I. Joe figure was actually a WWII soldier complete with accessories.)

      Devastators and Lethal Enforcers but not Bucky O Hare, that one shares its hardware with Mystic Warriors and a bunch of other beat em ups.

    I'm not much for GI Joe but I love 90s Konami arcade games and screen filling explosions.

    This was always one of my favorite games to play in my local arcade. It does the typical final boss fake out by having a Cobra Commander robot fight before you fight the real one.

    The awesome laser sound is also in Beyond oasis, or at least something incredibly similar. Sounds amazing.

    the red and white grid is an omage to the Commodore Amiga 3D ball demo. The Arcade PCB is actually an Amiga 500.

    I imagine Baroness is wearing purple because she would be hard to see against the gigantic plane if she was wearing black. A contrasting color helps separate her from the plane taking up most of the background. It was definitely a "quality of life" choice made by the dev team.

    It's weird that they have all of these 1990-era designs but Destro still looks like he did in 1984. RIP gold helmet Laird McCullen.

    Not gonna lie, I would've been mildly irritated if you had forgotten to say the knowing is half the battle quote. It's an unspoken law that the quote is mandatory in a GI Joe vid.

      I’ve been wondering what’s up to and just saw this on Twitter
      “Hope everyone is doing well today. Regarding the break from youtube: it's gonna be a while. I'm working on some bigger vids like NES ROMhacks, English-friendly Famicom games, some N64 stuff & SFC games like Far East of Eden. Thanks for your patience and enjoy the rest of your day”
      I’m going to enjoy the rest of my day now :)

    I have it on my Pandora box. It's a good arcade game. Gotta understand the arcade style. I wish they made more games when it came to G.I Joe and made them with real dedication to Quality. Best GI Joe game is Real American Hero by Taxan for NES.
