The audio on Beast Busters 2nd Nightmare (in MAME) is still a bit of a problem, but I made some significant improvements to the video emulation in MAME over the last year, so a lot of the priority bugs (life bar going behind the 3D etc.) that are present in the footage here are no longer a problem at least. Audio is.. difficult. It's basically a decent quality synth/sampler/sequencer (the Akai MPC-3000) transplanted onto an arcade board, rather than one of the more common audio solutions. The audio DSP used is completely undocumented, and quite capable, so reverse engineering it from how the software wants it to behave alone is a real challenge.
Thank you for your hard work on MAME, the help this has on game preservation cant be understated. As well just purely keeping these titles alive for future generations to experience and enjoy. I still have my ever growing MAME collection from the early 2000s. Arcades are a thing of the past where I live unfortunately so without MAME a lot of these would have been lost to time in my area. Thank you
I rented Williams Arcade Collection for the SNES as a kid and that damn Sinistar scared me as a kid. I was too afraid to pick that game afterward and stuck to Defender and Joust. Also shoutout to Carnevil, the first arcade game I’ve ever beaten and another horror light gun game worth trying.
I actually got to play Carnevil at an arcade and that's a game I'd recommend any day of the week. Give it a shot. I can't be mad I didn't see it here, lots of people might already know about it thanks to another TH-camr around these parts covering it in full.
Really happy to see Sinistar on this list! I recently made a mod for the game that reduces the difficulty by lowering the enemy populations, it's so much more fun to play now. I also found some unused sound effects and made a documentary video about those findings as well.
So happy to see Drunk mentioning Zombie Revenge. It was my favorite game on Dreamcast, especially playing co-op with my older brother. Loved memorable bosses in this game and cheesy voice acting. It was tough as hell though, never got further than train level.
Alien 3 had such a physical presence in the arcades back in the day. So cool. Never got to play it enough. It was always one of the more expensive machines.
I'll say it; Night Slashers is underrated. Admittedly probably because it came out during a time when the market was saturated with beat'em-ups, but man, it just oozes style. I'm glad it's getting a second life as a remake
Space Gun may not be the most notable game in the world, but it was the first game of that style I ever saw, and far more technically impressive than anything I had seen at that point. I never even had a chance to play it, but it left a hell of an impression on me.
This video brought me back to playing Area 51 with my dad at the Ball State University bowling alley. That's when I found out you could actually beat arcade games lol.
Awesome video as always. And for those folks who played House of the Dead, kudos to you if you can do the ultimate challenge: play by yourself with both guns and go John Wu on these zombies. It's a heck of a challenge
Speaking of Night Slashers, there's an OpenBOR fan made Streets of Rage game, that uses lots of sprites from Night Slashers, called Zombie Streets of Rage. It even features various Horror movie characters like Pennywise, Pinhead and the girl from The Ring as bosses. You can find it pretty easy online and it runs great even on potato computers.
Yeah, this BOR version is incredible... though I'm thinking of Night SlasherZ. Did they get a dcma and have to change the name? Anyway, manual input supers and stage reorganization is solid., and fan characters (though a bit sloppy) like Ash is fun.
Aw, no love for Vampire Night? Easily my favorite of the horror mayhem rail shooters. Excited to take a look at some of these I’d never heard of, though.
The Alien 3 arcade was pretty terrifying back when I was a kid. I can still remember the intense vibration of the huge guns that numbs my arm and the scary screeches of the aliens whenever they got shot.
I remember playing Zombie Raid at my local ice rink as a kid, and just being enthralled with it as a horror fanatic. And the amount of money I've spent playing House of the Dead and Zombie's Revenge is kind of absurd too. It reminds me that the game I got with my Dreamcast at launch was House of the Dead 2. Played it into the ground too.
I wish arcades would make a comeback. The issue now is that game makers prioritize monetization rather than fun. Took my kids to a local arcade and all the old stuff was gone. Replaced with claw machines and ticket based games that are mobile ports into arcade cabinets. It is sad. I’d love to play some light gun stuff again!
He's been saying that for a while now. It just tends to come up more often on his arcade videos, since it's not too difficult to get/set up foreign home console gear these days.
Hey SnesDrunk, I hope ur doing well. I just want to thank u for ur videos man. Every single Time I load up TH-cam I check for new uploads from ur channel. They just make me so happy, and more often then not, I find myself firing up my old consoles.
Good list! I'm sure there are a ton more arcade horror games on top of this! The arcade always had a good helping of wild, gory, and freaky games! It is a shame some of these never got ported to home consoles. That Sinistar one is amazing! That one would have scared the heck out of me as a kid as it just seems to come out of nowhere! 😅
You know, after all this time I just feel the urge to say: Thank you for uploading all these amazing and really interesting videos for us and I hope you have a great rest of your day too, dear SNES Drunk!
Thanks for the great list of games! I had no idea this Neo Geo game existed nor the Luigi's Mansion game...I'll have to visit my local D&B to see if I they have LM available to play. I'd like to recommend a Neo Geo game called Nightmare in the Dark. It's a Halloween themed game that plays very similar to Snow Bros
I still remember playing it on the giant 3-player cabinet with the massive viewfinder guns. You could always tell if an arcade had it based on the recognizable laser blasting sound.
I played Beast Busters: Second Nightmare to death back in the day so I'm glad to see it on this list! It's one of those games that really makes me miss arcades
I've been watching SNES Drunk for years now, and I just want to express how much I appreciate that if there's a convenient/modern/sensible way to obtain these games he supplies as much information as possible to purchase it. And if that isn't possible, you should play the game "any way you can"
Nice to see Night Slashers make the list, it's often over looked. It probably had too much gore for Nintendo but would have been a great addition for the Genesis or 32X. Shame it never got a console release.
I saw an actual cabinet for Beastbusters 2 at an arcade back when I was a kid. I still regret not playing it back then, and it was the only time I ever saw a Hyper NeoGeo 64 cabinet in person
I was 9 or 10 when I first saw Night Slashers and holy shit it blew me away! Being a big fan of 80s horror and slasher flicks I felt like this game was tailor made for me. Totally underrated gem.
I actually played an Evil Night cabinet back in the day. The SFX weren't working but the music did and it's seriously one of the coolest arcade soundtracks of its time courtesy of none other than Masayoshi Soken.
Theres a Silent Hill arcade cab at Galloping Ghost arcade along with Castlevania Arcade, but the former is rarely working whenever I go to visit, its just the nature of light gun games, they require the most up keep to make sure the guns stay in synch and when you have as many hands touching it as that place does with hundreds of other games in need of attention, you'll rarely find a light gun game 100% ready to go
Space Gun was released on various systems starting with the PS2, and Taito Arcade packs. Dark Escape 4D, is hard as hell but intrigues me. I played it all night at Dave and Busters a few years back, the cabinet alone left an impression on me. Finally, there are 5 mainline titles in the House of The Dead series. the 5th being Scarlet Dawn which drops the numbering.
I utterly adored the first Beast Busters. Also thanks for digging up my old memory of Space Gun. Im old mixed with less than stellar life choices means ive probably forgotten more than most will ever know... It has me sad though. I wish their were more ways to bring forgotten games back and accessible. So many games. Heck even on the Wii. Fragile Dreams, Pandoras Tower, Last Story. Just boggles my mind. Rule of Rose, Bloody Roar, Haunting Grounds and so on. Could keep going on but im sure the gist is gisted. Id love to play a lot of these games but sadly im not a smart man. Technology scares me. Unless you need help changing the clock on your VCR or betamax. Anywho oldmanrambleending thanks for the content over all the years.
People have already mentioned carnevil, but I want to give a shout-out to Altered Beast. A great horror arcade game. It was ported to a lot of home consoles later, so that might be why it’s not on this list. Thanks for this awesome list!
Laser Ghost is a pretty good arcade horror shooter too. A neat gimmick with the arcade version was the gun controllers had a viewport which allowed you to see the projectiles; almost like a hud. Viewers passing by could not see the projectiles. Like I said, a neat gimmick.
4yo me avoided any area of the arcade that had Sinistar. The voice creeped me out. I love that you have the game name shown the whole time. Too many other channels I have to rewind to figure out what they said the game being discussed was.
Just watched a playthrough of the SH Arcade game. I had no idea that even existed. It takes obvious liberties since it has to, in order to work as a shooter but it was a very good adaption of the SH franchise and has some great easter eggs in it. Really cool.
Having forgotten the name, when I saw the footage of Space Gun, I had a total, "Yeah! I remember playing that one! .....I wasn't very good at it, but I remember liking it." moment. Another light gun arcade game I remember enjoying a lot was,....it was up to 3 players, each one a different color, and the ghosts were like a cartoon-ish art style and holograms. Like, you could only see where they were on the screen by looking through the square glass 'sight' on top of your gun. I remember one level (maybe the first?) was a haunted house type theme.
I’ve played all house of dead games including the spin-offs and number 1 is still the best, great boss fights, music, and those older graphics make the zombies that more scarier 👌😎🔥
I really enjoy these video, and thats the reason why (combined with my OCD) I must say it's not on your "Lists" playlist. And yes, I already made a few of these comments =) Cheers!
Cool list. I'd always love running into the Space Gun arcade cabinet as a kid. It looked different from anything else with the plastic moulding. Have you heard of a Neo Geo game called Nightmare In The Dark? Really charming Buster Bros/Bubble Bobble Clone with a horror theme.
The way you say awry at 3:15 gave me a chuckle
The audio on Beast Busters 2nd Nightmare (in MAME) is still a bit of a problem, but I made some significant improvements to the video emulation in MAME over the last year, so a lot of the priority bugs (life bar going behind the 3D etc.) that are present in the footage here are no longer a problem at least.

thank you for all the work you do.
Huge thanks to you and the other MAME devs who make experiencing these games that never left the arcade possible.
Thanks for your service!
Thank you for your hard work on MAME, the help this has on game preservation cant be understated. As well just purely keeping these titles alive for future generations to experience and enjoy. You're the best!
Sinistar is so hilariously terrifying for that style of game. It just catches you off guard.
"BEWARE I LIVE"
Pretty sure Sinistar is the cousin of the Yeti from SkiFree
@TheCrewExpendable 5 year old me FREAKED OUT from that yeti lmao
I played this for the first time lately and it still startled me even when expecting it
Hi
The way he pronounced “awry” is the real horror here.
I was working on something else, and heard that, and reacted like "the hell you just say?"
He is from minnesota
Lmao what the hell was that?
@@reeyees50do they even pronounce it like that in Minnesota though? 😆
A lot of people know perfectly well how to use words they’ve never heard said aloud.
I was hoping to see it here too! I haven't played it in probably 20 years but I spent a lot of time with it in my local arcade.
I played enough of Carnevil that I owned most of the high score list at my local arcade. Memories.
I remember playing this one in arcades as well. Fun pump-action light gun game
Im glad i read the comments to see if people remember carnevil
Carn Evil was one of the best 💥🔥
Night slashers is so friggin awesome.
That pulse rifle in Alien 3: The Gun just felt so satisfying to use.
shout out to Chiller, a light gun game that got ported to NES. Just mindless spooky violence
Really happy to see Sinistar on this list! I recently made a mod for the game that reduces the difficulty by lowering the enemy populations, it's so much more fun to play now. I also found some unused sound effects and made a documentary video about those findings as well.
No Carnevil! Such a cool light gun game. It had shotguns you had to pump to reload....awe memories
So happy to see Drunk mentioning Zombie Revenge. It was my favorite game on Dreamcast, especially playing co-op with my older brother. Loved memorable bosses in this game and cheesy voice acting. It was tough as hell though, never got further than train level.
Vampire Night and Splatterhouse are my go to arcade games i play every October.
Great recommendations. A little surprised no mention of Carnevil. Thats such a great classic horror shooter.
Alien 3 had such a physical presence in the arcades back in the day. So cool. Never got to play it enough. It was always one of the more expensive machines.
Man that sinistar audio is amazing really takes me back to the classic era. Reminds me of altered beast and the genesis
The whistle from the attract mode of the original Beast Busters is still burned into my head some 30 years later
Great video, as always! Wanted to let you know that awry is pronounced uh-RYE. Happy Halloween!
Total length of video: 690 secs.
Total length of "SNES Drunk": 3 secs.
.43% of the video was spent listening to "SNES Drunk".
I'll say it; Night Slashers is underrated. Admittedly probably because it came out during a time when the market was saturated with beat'em-ups, but man, it just oozes style. I'm glad it's getting a second life as a remake
I used to play Chiller back in elementary school. I miss the arcade cabinets at Jerry’s subs and pizza
Space Gun may not be the most notable game in the world, but it was the first game of that style I ever saw, and far more technically impressive than anything I had seen at that point. I never even had a chance to play it, but it left a hell of an impression on me.

Is it on happy chick? Is that still a thing
Aw, no love for Vampire Night? Easily my favorite of the horror mayhem rail shooters. Excited to take a look at some of these I’d never heard of, though.
Love that you included Sinistar. terrifying voice!
Wow. What a great compilation!! Thanks drunk
Sinistar was the genius of RJ Mical, who also gave us the Atari Lynx. And was one of the fathers of the Amiga as well. Much respect.
I'm so glad that The House of The Dead and Zombie Revenge made this list. Truly are a man of culture, SNESdrunk!
Surprised there was no mention of Carn-Evil! Great list lots of games I did not know existed!
Sinistar scared the poop out of me as a kid lol. Great video as always!
Zombie Revenge is great! Love to see someone shine a light on that gem

Arcade games are the epitome of monetization lol 😆 😂 🤣
The bullet counter in Zombie Raid looks super cool with how they animated the shell casings flying around.
“Another game you’ll have to keep your eye out for”
New SNES Drunk euphemism just dropped 🔥
I don’t think euphemism is the word you are looking for there…
He's been saying that for a while now. It just tends to come up more often on his arcade videos, since it's not too difficult to get/set up foreign home console gear these days.
Please shut up
@@JazGalaxy Why not? Seems fine to me. Euphemism doesn't have to be sexual.
@@Bolsty7 Indeed, it's just a substitution term for something else.
Nightmare in the Dark is another horror-themed gem.
Hey, thank you so much for the flashing light warning. You've probably saved at least a few of your viewers a lot of unnecessary pain.
Splatterhouse and Night Slasher is the best made arcade horror games ever. It’s bloody and fun to bash some monster heads with your bare fists.
Hey SnesDrunk, I hope ur doing well. I just want to thank u for ur videos man. Every single Time I load up TH-cam I check for new uploads from ur channel. They just make me so happy, and more often then not, I find myself firing up my old consoles.
Good stuff Drunk. Sinistar, House of the Dead and Discs of Tron are my three all-time favorite arcade games
Very happy to see Space Gun and Zombie Raid made the list
You know, after all this time I just feel the urge to say:
Thank you for uploading all these amazing and really interesting videos for us and I hope you have a great rest of your day too, dear SNES Drunk!
CarnEvil was a fun one too ❤
Yes!
I second this 🔥
Nintendo is really missing a golden opportunity with Luigi's Mansion. Especially with the Switch. But it's probably because of a contract deal.
Exactly what I was looking for in Halloween month, thanks!
5:44 That ammo count effect at the bottom corner of Zombie Raid has no right to be as slick and deliciously animated the way it is.
Splatterhouse, right off the jump, perfect.
My brother and I played Laser Ghost in the arcades. It's a horror themed light gun arcade game.
I still remember playing it on the giant 3-player cabinet with the massive viewfinder guns. You could always tell if an arcade had it based on the recognizable laser blasting sound.
I’m surprised you didn’t mention Carnevil. I use to love that game in the arcade.
I played Beast Busters: Second Nightmare to death back in the day so I'm glad to see it on this list! It's one of those games that really makes me miss arcades
Happy rest of October, SpookDrunk! I'm amazed on how many arcades games I've been missing out, thanks! 👾
Zombie Revenge is one of my favorite arcade games, as well as my favorite Dreamcast games.
8:00 in, light gun games are still kicking ass in arcades! I played a Transformers one a couple of years ago that was super exhilarating!
I've been watching SNES Drunk for years now, and I just want to express how much I appreciate that if there's a convenient/modern/sensible way to obtain these games he supplies as much information as possible to purchase it. And if that isn't possible, you should play the game "any way you can"
I remember playing Sinistar on the Sega Genesis as a classic of games including Joust, I don't have it anymore and absolutely miss it.
There's so many arcade lightgun games out there that its shocking how much I have never seen aside from HoD, Time crisis, etc.
Laser Ghost was my fave, the cabinet was massive and the pixel art was awesome
Nice to see Night Slashers make the list, it's often over looked. It probably had too much gore for Nintendo but would have been a great addition for the Genesis or 32X. Shame it never got a console release.
Thumbs up for Space Gun. Love that game, and the best Aliens game made.
"Gone awry"
You used it correctly, but pronounced it weird.
"Gone a RYE" is how you'd pronounce that phrase.
Good stuff. A lot of nostalgia for when life and the world seemed so much simpler.
Heck yes! "I AM SINISTAR" still brings me terror and gets my heart racing
I actually played an Evil Night cabinet back in the day. The SFX weren't working but the music did and it's seriously one of the coolest arcade soundtracks of its time courtesy of none other than Masayoshi Soken.
Oh man, I loved that game. Sucks it never got a port or properly emulated.
Theres a Silent Hill arcade cab at Galloping Ghost arcade along with Castlevania Arcade, but the former is rarely working whenever I go to visit, its just the nature of light gun games, they require the most up keep to make sure the guns stay in synch and when you have as many hands touching it as that place does with hundreds of other games in need of attention, you'll rarely find a light gun game 100% ready to go
No love for CarnEvil?? The intro video from that light gun classic STILL haunts my dreams to this day!
Yeeeees Ghoul Panic! I love that game. the music was so good, the designs adorable I just... Yes.
I'm probably showing my age... but the games the scared me as a kid (certainly Sinistar) was Chiller and Crossbow.
I love the little noodle beam you have in The Real Ghostbusters.
Laser Ghost is a pretty good arcade horror shooter too. A neat gimmick with the arcade version was the gun controllers had a viewport which allowed you to see the projectiles; almost like a hud. Viewers passing by could not see the projectiles. Like I said, a neat gimmick.
Sinistar rules so much. Never played in the arcade but I played on Playstation. The roar from that thing gave me a scare at the age of 11. So good
It’s amazing the ones in the 80s and early 90s were even made. Good time to grow up
Yes! Splatterhouse is amazing!
4yo me avoided any area of the arcade that had Sinistar. The voice creeped me out.
I love that you have the game name shown the whole time. Too many other channels I have to rewind to figure out what they said the game being discussed was.
A lot of these can be played on pc with a sinden light gun or gun4ir. They're expensive but it's nice to bring the light gun experience home in 2023.
Nice list man!
Just watched a playthrough of the SH Arcade game. I had no idea that even existed. It takes obvious liberties since it has to, in order to work as a shooter but it was a very good adaption of the SH franchise and has some great easter eggs in it. Really cool.
Always nice to see the Hyper Neogeo 64 get a little love.
Never fails with good content I love SNES Drunk
Having forgotten the name, when I saw the footage of Space Gun, I had a total, "Yeah! I remember playing that one! .....I wasn't very good at it, but I remember liking it." moment. Fun vid. Happy Halloween, Drunk!!
Excellent video love your videos ❤
I’ve played all house of dead games including the spin-offs and number 1 is still the best, great boss fights, music, and those older graphics make the zombies that more scarier 👌😎🔥
Played Sinistar as a kid on SNES and it legitimately scared the crap outta me back then lol
Evil Night!!!! Loved that one in the arcade.
That was a very spooky open for your show!
I really enjoy these video, and thats the reason why (combined with my OCD) I must say it's not on your "Lists" playlist.
And yes, I already made a few of these comments =)
Cheers!
Today's creepy low-pitched intro really got me into the spirit of Halloween.
Cool list. I'd always love running into the Space Gun arcade cabinet as a kid. It looked different from anything else with the plastic moulding. Have you heard of a Neo Geo game called Nightmare In The Dark? Really charming Buster Bros/Bubble Bobble Clone with a horror theme.
My first memory of any horror game was seeing the Silent Hill Arcade game at an arcade when I was like 5 or 6.
I never see anyone ever mention CarnEvil Arcade. The best horror shooting game I ever played in the arcades
