It’s interesting to look at the design of the houses; now I see how our New Zealand 🇳🇿 architects were influenced when making the designs; particularly with the government housing, back in the day. Parts of suburban NZ have similar landscapes to the areas that you were walking through. Bloody good; keep these vloggs coming!

I have always felt we don't grow up (and leave our younger selves behind) so much as we grow out, and like the tree with the sapling at its heart, our lives today contain the experiences of all the versions of us that got us here. If they struggled or didn't like certain times, today's "us" can always try and look back and help little "us". After all we all love happy memories and feed on them. Maybe we can face our bad memories and clear them up and live happier and learn from our youth as a result (I know this is much easier said than done, so don't flame me if I sound a bit deep and meaningful). Also, Spilsby. SPILSBY! Used to go there on Thursday's with my dad on his rounds as a rep back in the 70s and 80s. Good ode Spilsby.

I'm glad you had this safe place to be at peace during the times you needed it. Thanks for the history snippets too; we actually had a Roman villa in our village here too and they uncovered part of a mosaic floor when they were building some new houses here. The LL ocal archeology people were living their best life for a while!
Bullying at school has always been underestimated and normalised. If, as an adult we had to put up with the constant daily terror and trauma of it in our working day (whislt trying to learn/achieve and do well in a career) there would be huge repurcussions /mental health debates about it. No one would put up with it. It can have a devastating affect on a child especially the teen years when life is stressful and difficult enough anyway.
Dumb kids and teachers will always be around!! As a hopeless romantic Dumb kids do Dumb things. I forgive but not forget and it is easier to laugh at them!! Love you all and have a blessed day!! Try it for yourself!!!
Really enjoyed this Dave, I can relate so much. Even today at the age of 50 my walk's feel like escape from the world, just for a while, to think or not to think. Thanks for taking us on the journey. Oh and I always pick up the acoustic while watching the walk vids...inspiration indeed :)

Dave, it’s too bad you didn’t go on the school I went to. My friends and I were mostly athletes and probably some of the biggest and strongest guys in school. By the time our friend group was in grade 10 we had developed a reputation of looking after other kids that were being bullied. It got to the point where there wasn’t any bullying going on. This lasted until graduation day. I am sorry that you had to go through that tough time. No one should ever have to go through that.
Hard to know what to say, Dave, because this video evokes some painful memories for me too, but know this, your music now creates a level of joy for others that defeats such darkness.

You brought back a lot of my own memories of skipping school and all the walking and hiding involved. Can't hardly walk anymore because of Multiple Sclerosis, but I still hide from people. Thank you for being open and honest about your life Dave. You really rock man!!
Dave, what a beautifull little town you live in! I dont know if you have traveled to other countrys, but most of us dont live in such a pretty landscapes with so much green open space,well maintened buildings and roads and safety. For instance i live like a rat in a tiny apartment in the heart of a 5 million people city, surrounded by drugadicts,crime,prostitutes,homless, noise and dirt. Theres so much good in your present life! So many blessings that must not being taken granted that i thing you need to focus on. Love your music,love your channel and this is just something i want to say as an advice. Dont lose focus on the positive!

Don't know how you have the balls to talk to yourself with a camera on your own near other people! I'm feeling awkward just watching, imagining myself doing the same thing. I had a pretty bad experience in school, too, and it's left me with a nasty amount of social anxiety and I barely go outside. Even in this video, whenever I see someone else across the road, I'm on edge thinking they're going to shout an insult or something. And my mind was thinking of all sorts of scenarios, like what if someone's sitting on the bench (it would be awkward with a camera, and sticking a sticker on the bench while someone's there.) It's crazy how much your thoughts get warped after you've been bullied and treated badly. It's inspiring to see what you've done despite your struggles. Really makes me realise that I should try to consistently work on my anxiety, and face it. Sometimes it feels impossible, though. My brain thinks of all sorts of reasons why something won't work out. Even hearing your story of going to that party is giving my mind reasons to not go out, in case I ran into a group of those types of people. I'm only 5 foot 4, and I've got long hair, so I feel like I'd be the first target for these types of people who hate anyone different from them. Some schools really are like the type of stuff you see happening in prisons on TV shows. It's crazy how such a large amount of people can be so horrible for no good reason. I got bullied a few times, but it was never as bad as people threatening to beat me up, it was mostly just tons of smaller jabs and insults, so I suppose I'm lucky. It shouldn't be luck based, though. People just shouldn't treat others like shit.
