I've tried many times to make a good recipe with butterbeans and they were always just ok. This recipe changed everything, amazing. A big thank you from Brazil.
I am so glad I found you! I have bookmarked this! About onions, there's this weird trick but it works for me to a potency of 70 to 90%. I hold a piece of bread between my teeth while I am chopping onions. Somehow the chemicals cancel out, and it doesn't assault your eyes that much.
I made this an I made another stew of yours. I follow a fair few vegan channels but can never be arsed to cook what they make. I always make your stuff though haha. Don't know why. Its always next level though. I had to use chessnut mushrooms as that's all we had, the oysters will definitely make a big difference with texture but that flavours are absolutely unreal. Definitely be buying that book when it's out 👍🏼
Just made it! Delicious!!! I substituted Lima beans for butter beans and regular mushrooms as the grocer was out of oyster mushrooms. Tad spicy because my tinned tomatoes were Rotel with chilies. Also deglazed with sherry instead of red wine. I lived in Spain for 3 years so any recipe that says Spanish _____, I want to try. Excellent pataje(stew)!
I rinse my onions under water before slicing and only trim the root before slicing, nut farther upn plus I wear glasses. I only tear up a couple of times a year and I scratch coom almost everything, so a lot of onions. I wonder if fresher well watered and hence juicer mushroom are more apt to cause a problem. A very sharp knife may cause less problem as a dull knife would crush the onion more. Facing the knife edge toward your face, if you can see the knife's edge it is dull. Quality steel or ceramic (which are cheap by comparision [at least Faberware is, although the handle might not be the best])
I just made this recipe tonight and it was amazing! I have to follow Low-FOD recipes due to my own IBS but I can get away with just a tad of Garlic infused oil. I used that on the Zucchini and ditched the onions and chopped garlic and added minced Ginger with the Zucchini. It worked out perfectly! Thank you so much for this!
I have to keep mine in the fridge as we live in the tropics. Does seem to make them less brutal. Or wear swimming goggles. I used to do that and it makes your eyes onion proof.
Cool tip! Thanks. I usually just keep the onion in the fridge till the last possible moment when it needs to be cut. When it’s cold it doesn’t release the irritating fumes. It also helps to cool the knife.
Oooh, the recipe from your first cookbook made in one pot! I love the recipe and have made it several times, even on the hottest summer days (and I cook my butterbeans from dried). Looking forward to your second book, me.
I have no idea how could I miss this recipe! It seems absolutely delicious and I have never had such a stew before so it would be such a massive loss! I will be definitely making this dish for my non-vegan fam as I am sure they would love it! So many incredible aromas and textures! Thank you so so much for sharing this video with us! Sending you all the love Rachel!
This recipe was soooo amazing!!! I didn't have liquid smoke but did everything else, including buying some fresh sourdough from a local bakery.... everything was so good. My boyfriend said I put my foot in it, and it's all because of you. Very warm and very hearty!!! 💜🥰
There's a pretty good hack for potent onions. Pour vinegar onto the chopping board. It's always worked for me. Something about it neutralizes the sting.
It’s like a big sign got the butterbeans just could not think what to make then I saw this your books are on my Christmas list for family to get for me ❤️
I've just made this, utterley amazing! Serious depth of flavour. Couldn't find liquid smoke in my local supermarket and so used a smoky BBQ sauce instead. Even roasted my own peppers which almost didn't make it to the pan as they were so tasty - will never buy ready made ones again.
Just made it and omg even my meat loving husband absolutely loved it he wasn't sure what type of meat was in it....lol.....i had to confess to him though there was no meat....he had seconds and thirds i'm going to have to make more next time and maybe put it on rice or some type of grain...but wonderful recipe
I enjoy this recipe. This is my second time making it and I love it. I've always wanted to make a recipe with wine 🤣. I can't wait to purchase the book!!!!!!!
I want to do a three course dinner party for my birthday. It must be filling and caribbean/creole and African fusion and vegan. Please can you make some suggestions for starter. Main and dessert. Maybe two sides
Really love watching you cooking Rachel - they ignite my inner kitchen goddess! I haven't tried it yet, but apparently, if you cut onions sllloooowwwwllllllly it doesn't sting your eyes - yet to try it.
With onions, if you don’t cut off the hairy like roots no crying occurs ! Cos nothing is relised ! It works- I’ve never cried since, it could be the other end -I can’t remember but try both ! I swear
I’ll make, season paprika, rosemary, smoking, coconut alt to soy, Butter beans, garlic, red onion, ginger, oyster shrooms, roasted red peppers, zucchini, cilantro or parsley
Oh wow. Just found this young lady via a recommendation. Superb. Although I will skip using excessive oil as they are so highly inflammatory. Otherwise she's amazing 👏.
I felt that "I just love bread" to my core. Bread is seriously the best. The stew looks awesome!
Haha I read this as I was watching that exact part

Great stuff Rachel. You look amazing-post pregnancy
Hi Rachel- one tiny trick to prevent onions from burning your eyes- is to add olive oil to the knife before cutting.
One of my favorite dishes thus far! 😋
Nice to see her coming back. I'll get the book.
I've tried many times to make a good recipe with butterbeans and they were always just ok. This recipe changed everything, amazing. A big thank you from Brazil.
I made this for friends on Friday and it was absolutely delicious (BANGIN’) - served with new potatoes. 🙏🏻❤️
That pink top looks so pretty!!!👌🏽
I am so glad I found you! I have bookmarked this!

If you add spices into soy sauce and liquid smoke and then pour the mixture over your mushrooms, they'll coat much better and have deeper flavours
I was thinking the same
Looks utterly gorgeous. I never make anything like the recipe, but I get inspired. This time I may make an exception! 😊
What A Beautiful Human Being! Thank You for your videos! Truly Inspirational
I can't wait to try this recipe! Thanks so much!!
I made this for dinner. It was wonderful! The smoked paprika and the liquid smoke make it.
I wish you could do cooking classes in London!
This dish looks at this amazing you should smile!👍🏽
Just had this tonight and it was a hit!

This looks amazing!! I think I have everything in my fridge right now. I may just have to make this later today.

Butter bean stew sounds amazing!!!
My mouth is literally watering. I love bread too, and I love stew. All my favorite things in one pot.
Hey Rachel. Try putting your onion in the fridge the night before you're going to use them. Or longer. It makes a difference when chopping them up.
Yes. This is what I do. It seems to reduce the sting and increase the sweetness of the onion
I have to keep mine in the fridge as we live in the tropics. Does seem to make them less brutal. Or wear swimming goggles. I used to do that and it makes your eyes onion proof.
That was the first recipe I ever tried from your cookbook! It's so so good!!
I need you in my life, thankyou for these videos. Your amazing
I'm making this today. And I have both of your cookbooks. Them them!
Looks amazing. You could sprinkle gremolata on this.
I put onions in the freezer 10 minutes before cutting them. The coolness keeps the vapor from rising and burning my eyes. Try it
I've seen this video a month ago and I made this dish 3 times already. Is soooo freaking good! Thank you so much Rachel for sharing❤
What are the measurements?
This meal makes me want to eat in your home!
Just made this and it is crazy good!!! Bursting with flavor! Thank you!
I love ALL your recipes. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
Squeeze lemon juice over the onion to help reduce the irritation 😘
Cool tip! Thanks. I usually just keep the onion in the fridge till the last possible moment when it needs to be cut. When it’s cold it doesn’t release the irritating fumes. It also helps to cool the knife.

Run the cold tap when cutting your onions 🧅 👌🏼😉

There's a pretty good hack for potent onions. Pour vinegar onto the chopping board. It's always worked for me. Something about it neutralizes the sting.
You look incredible Rachel!!! You are shining through this video😍 This stew looks amazing, definitely going try to make it!
I just made this today -- amazing flavors, hearty and delicious!!
Eat bread while cutting onions to prevent watering eyes. Works every time for me.
Putting the fridge prior to cutting helps too
@@Carlyon100 yes! I keep mine in the refrigerator and my eyes never water when cutting!
It’s like a big sign got the butterbeans just could not think what to make then I saw this your books are on my Christmas list for family to get for me ❤️

This recipe looks very delicious. I love stews and I love when wine is used in cooking, for the flavour it adds. Awesome content Rachel

Great video and recipe Rachel and I love one pot recipes because they are dishwashing friendly.

If you have a wooden cutting board, rub it down with vinegar before cutting onions. It helps!
Wow! that's a great tip! Thank you.
What is a good substitute for the wine for non drinkers
I made this today it taste amazing!
Rachel's Recipes be hitting, whenever I try them. Would like to see her do an eggplant lasagna recipe.

Looks so yummy! On my Must Try List.😋
This looks good, thank you for sharing.
Just tried it today… Superb 👌🏽 I’ll definitely be trying more of your recipes only thing is i had to use regular mushrooms couldn’t find the oysters 😔
Okay team im jumping in. Dont cut the ends of the onions until last. Cutting the ends releases the chemical that causes you to cry.
Look's 😋!!! Can't wait to try your wonderful recipe's!!...... (Need to hit the Grocery Store!) 🐗😷😌😁🌃🎉 🎶
I’ll make, season paprika, rosemary, smoking, coconut alt to soy, Butter beans, garlic, red onion, ginger, oyster shrooms, roasted red peppers, zucchini, cilantro or parsley
I love the colour of your top! Where is the top from? 😊
Oh wow. Just found this young lady via a recommendation. Superb. Although I will skip using excessive oil as they are so highly inflammatory. Otherwise she's amazing 👏.
Run onion under cold water after the first cut and they are doable without tears.
Thank You ! Learn Something Ever Time !
What could I use as a substitute for the wine?
I’m not vegan but this dish OMG LOOKS AMAIZING
It look delish cant wait to try it
I like to burn a candle or inscent while cutting onions. I burns the fumes.
you can also cut them under running cold water
Wet under they eyes, plain water. Works like a charm.
