The family natural planning method is is a very confusing method to understand so we need more people explaining it. Thank you for the video. God bless you🤍
The Marquette method of natural family planning is very straight-forward and most appealing to me! The device simply measures the level of reproductive hormones in your urine for the day...peak, high, or low. Takes about 5 minutes... easy breezy. 98% effective too 😊
As a new mom & a practicing Catholic, thank you for sharing! My husband & I are definitely open to life & are still hoping to postpone pregnancy for a couple of years. This helped a whole lot!! God bless.
I never knew of this method until my friend told me about it. I just stopped taking the pill because it was messing with my mood and i was gaining lots of weight. I am four months postpartum and i am so glad i found this!
This is my dream. When I become a registered nurse, I want to get into the specialty of nursing obstetrics or Nursing neonatal science. I want to be a nurse researcher and take care of teaching others about having dignity of life and death. I also want to get into this topic of natural family planning. I feel prolife is better and we need take care of those arguments people start to put such as when someone gets raped. But there is a big topic because we need to teach others about God and Jesus. We need virtue. I really want to get into this stuff. If I was not studying nursing, I would be a marriage and family therapist. Please pray for me. I love your videos so much because as cradle catholic and curious person, I love how you explain things. I hope God bless you. 🌿
I was a certified NFP instructor for 15 yrs. (Sympto-thermal method) My husband and I took the class prior to our wedding and I immediately embarked on training to become an instructor. I wouldn't have changed anything. We encouraged husband's to chart and become a part of the process. I think this makes it more of a "couple" method. I ended up charting for 25 yrs. through breastfeeding, surgeries, etc.
Wonderful of you to share this information! Although I am beyond childbearing years, your video is educational and provides a tool for helping other young couples. God bless you for always tackling subjects that affect many but may be uncomfortable for some to openly discuss. You two are truly a blessing to us! Thank you both for your mission work! ❤️
NFP is not only important for religious purposes, but great for marriage relationships and women's health. Dr. Janet Smith published a CD many years ago, "One More Soul," in which she discussed all of the benefits of couples practicing NFP. Thanks Ken and Janelle! Great to have a couple sharing about their NFP stories.
This is so wonderful. Thank you for sharing. As a breastfeeding mom I am facing some confusion (as well as pressure from my medical provider to use birth control). So I am super thankful for this Catholic point of view! This is the way to go.
Thank you!! We are embarking on our NFP journey now and this is just what we needed. A little more tangible than just relying on my body awareness alone. I already felt the anxiety you referred to in postponing pregnancy for the time being. We have to get a bigger place first!! :) Thank you again!
Thanks for this guys. NFP in Ireland is practically unheard of! Very difficult to find an instructor. My husband and I I try our best on my own but it is very stressful. I'm going to look into this method as I hadn't heard of it before. Sounds easier and less stressful. God bless you both.
Bruna Barros thanks for the comment. I didn’t realize NFP is uncommon in Ireland. I’d reommend connection with our instructor at website. In order to follow Marquette accurately and instructor is necessary. It also reduces the stress level! 😁 www.vitaefertility.com/marquette-method-explained/
@@AnnulmentProof @John Farrell Natural Family Planning is NOT a sin. if NFP is a sin, then not getting married at all is a sin. "Nature" -- God -- specifically designed females with only a few fertility days, intentionally. And He gave us wisdom to approach that. Every family is different, and every woman's body is different. NFP is the healthiest way to navigate how many children you have, and manage whether or not a woman's health and body is even in a stable position to conceive again, or at all. It's not our job to pump out as many babies as possible. That's very very harmful to a woman, actually.. and potentially fatal (forcing the idea that she has to do be a baby farm is the sin, here.) It's our job to be in the healthiest position possible when we DO have those babies. The only sin is to kill a conceived baby. But if conception never happened, you never brought a soul together in the first place. So it could not be a sin. You might argue that intentionally withholding yourself from eachother permanently is a sin. The Bible actually says that is wrong. But it also makes way for a time of fasting. So taking that time to not come together for a short period is not wrong at all. Natural family planning is not a sin. If it isn't right for you and your wife, you have every right to not practice it, if thats what you both agree to. But absolutely NOWHERE in God's word does He tell us that using wisdom in marriage for when we choose to conceive, is a sin. It is not a sin. Hope this clarified things for you, since you appear confused about the topic.
Just note that the monitor is not registering HCG... that's the pregnancy hormone. Its measuring estrogen and luteinizing hormone (LH). When estrogen rises, the monitor signals "high" and when the LH peaks, the monitor shows "peak" which signals ovulation is to occur in the next 24-48hrs.
Thanks so much for this video, was really confused and unsure about how NFP works in a marriage, and the uncertainty of it.But it gives me hope to see that there are couples who actually do it.I felt that there's no way one can stay holy in a marriage in this day and age,but you gave me hope.I hope one day I will find someone willing to follow this.
Angie Wambu thanks for watching. We have found it essential to be connected with a Marquette instructor who has helped us understand this method of NFP. 😀
There wasn't lot's of information in the 80s. We just got a book when doing marriage instructions. Mother church really need to do more on this subject
I'm 7 months postpartum and I'm so stressed out especially because before my baby, I had 2 miscarriages. I cannot mentally have another baby so soon. I'm going to try this method. It's just hard. The stress is making me not want sex.
Great video! Glad it was recommended. The only issue with the Marquette is if anyone has PCOS or other hormone issues, this method is not reliable due to the LH, FSH, and HCG being out of balance, thus creating false positives when the time of ovulation comes around. Or that’s what I’ve been told at least! 😰
I just learned how to use this method and it’s so helpful to have that data that’s not just based on my observation, especially as I’m nearing 50 and signs are becoming more irregular. Thanks for this!
I think it's great that Janelle knew how to chart her cycles and understand her fertility before she was married. I think all girls should be taught this as teens, just without the focus on getting pregnant. It's important for all young women to understand their bodies well. I'd also like to see aspects of NaPro technology aka more natural methods being used to treat gynecological issues in teens instead of putting them on the pill for everything. I know of teens who were put on depo provera just for irregular cycles! Talk about overkill! I'm sure some principles of NaPro could've helped and spared them all those artificial hormones!
I’m going through RCIA and I was protestant and my husband is Catholic but followed me into my faith. Anyway we had secondary infertility and went through a cycle of IVF that did not work. Shortly after we started going to a Catholic Church and joined RCIA. All this to say, this is how all the fertility doctors teach tracking fertility! So I’m surprised when I hear Catholics talking about any other method of tracking because this is how the secular world tracks and it’s so easy and most importantly the most accurate! I’m happy to hear that Catholics are finally getting on board with it.
Melinda Anne thanks for the comment. The monitors provide only one means of tracking fertility. But it is not the only means that doctors use. We also keep in mind that not everyone can afford fertility monitors and the strips. For example the billions ovulating method is what Mother Teresa’s sister having been teaching for years in 3rd world countries where doctors were not on board and the World Health Organization pushes abortion and not NFP. It has been the Catholic Church leading NFP health care professionals and not the other way around. If you have found a doctor familiar with tracking fertility by natural means, praise God! From our interaction with married couples this is not most peoples experience.
Melinda Anne, first... welcome to the Church! We're excited to have you. I joined myself about 10 years ago. One thing that I found is that I often thought the Church was very anti-science (including modern medicine), but the more I dug in, the more I found how many Catholics have actually shaped a lot of science over the years.
Directional Faith oh, I’m well aware that the church is not against science. That is one of many, many beautiful reasons why I wanted to become Catholic!
Catholic Minute - Catholic speaker Ken Yasinski it’s wonderful that there are many ways to track fertility and at different price points. I just wish that this method was mentioned more in my Canadian parish.
Melinda Anne yes you bring up a great point. I actually have never heard a priest mention this at Church (except for the parish we now attend...1st time in over 40 years of going to mass). I pray that they find the courage.
Me and my wife are looking into this method for our marriage prep . Please pray for those couples who were Luke warm and coming into holy matrimony , the culture really messes up our minds thinking birth control is only the way and we get kind of hostile when these come up . But thank God we are going for this method . God bless
I'm trying to learn this method for postpartum. I'm currently pregnant with twins and I'm going to need a little time to adjust to motherhood(first time mom) and give my body time to heal before getting pregnant again
This video helped me a lot with deciding what I want to do. I’m three months postpartum and I’ve been having anxiety about pregnancy since two months postpartum. I feel like it’s nearly every day when someone mentions if I’m gonna get pregnant again. That’s the last thing I want right now... I have four kids my oldest who just turned five years old! I fear putting my body through another pregnancy so soon.
Thank you for sharing your experience. We struggled so much with Billings, been trying two day method. But it's so hard differentiating the secretions since all days have secretions. This has prepared me more to reach out to a Marquette instructor...
Wow! This is great to know!! I have had success with tracking without strips or anything, as our bodies are incredible teachers of what is going on within-- but I am interested in the lesser amount of stress with this method. lol. And yes, just as you stated, definitely appears to be less time consuming. Thank you!
So my husband and I got married in January 2023 and get pregnant that February. After our son was born, we got pregnant 2 months postpartum. I was exclusively pumping, but not regular enough for lactational amenorrhea. I had been planning one particular evening that I believed I would be beyond the ovulating stage. If I remember right we had sex 12 hours earlier than that. And we conceived our little girl. Everyone that talks about NFP never talks about how to track your cycles when breastfeeding. Our son lost his appetite at 6 months and I HAD been planning on breastfeeding him for a year. (I stopped pumping at about 3 months postpartum since I was pregnant again.) so our plan this time is to breastfeed for 3-6 months and spend the rest of that year tracking my cycles and trying to lose weight…Because we can’t trust our intuition anymore and my body’s cycles are so unpredictable since I’m overweight. My question is why doesn’t anyone talk about NFP during breastfeeding?? Also, we were doing the Marquette method using fertility monitor. But apparently the test sticks come in bundles of 10. I had them all mixed up in the box which the instructions said was a no-no. And besides, the monitor doesn’t work after so long of taking the tests if you don’t have a period within a certain time frame. It says not to use if you’re breastfeeding. So no sex at all for a year. God help us.
Please can you update this to let us know how things are going 3 years down the line? I am genuinely considering this and it would really help to know...
I would like to learn NFP before getting married so Im practically a pro by the time I’m there! What method would you recommend I learn first? Would it be reasonable to just get a Marquette method monitor now and start that way? If so, what monitor do you recommend?
Hey Brooke - congrats on your engagement. The Marquette Method works great for us. I'd recommend connecting with an instructor first. Here is the link to the one we use. Her name is Louise Boychuk, RN. She is great. Her website: www.vitaefertility.com/ I hope this helps.
Thank you for sharing this guys, super helpful. Brief question : For people who may genuinely be unable to afford NFP methods that require ' tools ', what would be the best free NFP method for them?
Words and Pictures great point. Yes Marquette can be pricy. We realize we forgot to mention this after recording. Our perior experience was with the Billing’s Ovulation Method. It is free. One typically does not have to paid the instructor... therefore is it affordable and a great gift to the Church. The instructors give a tone of time to helping their clients out of charity. We are extremely grateful to those who got us started. This would be one place to start.
After 911 2020 course if events we need to plan on what works naturally. Fertility is just the beginning when coupling. The journey. For life and wellness never ends.
I am very interested in learning to use this method. I had a tubal ligation 8.5 years ago when I was not a practicing Catholic at the time. I greatly regret it and I am having it reversed on Valentine’s Day. My husband and I are gonna start to try for another baby after I’m recovered. I am adamant about us using NFP and not any artificial birth control as I see it for what it truly is. Any recommendations for discussing it in better detail to my husband? I told him that I would want to use NFP in conversations prior to us arranging the surgery to reverse the tubal ligation but haven’t discussed it’s concept in full. He thinks that it isn’t a reliable method to depend upon if you’re not wanting to add another family member. Thoughts?
I have been using ovulation test strips daily to detect ovulation. What’s the difference with a fertility monitor? Also how would a women prevent pregnancy if the fertility monitor said low and say she was intimate with her husband and than all of a sudden the fertility monitor said high or peak a couple days later after being intimate and the sperm lives inside her for 5 days. How can u prevent pregnancy than?
Those are great questions. This method is much more than using a monitor. There are rules to follow at different times. That is why we always recommend connect with an instructor to use this method and who will be able to answer specific questions. The instructor we recommend - their link is in the description of the video.
Good information, I would like to know how much money do you spend in a month using this method? How many stick you use in a month? Do you check it every day? If you can answer this questions I really appreciate it!!
I use Marquette in regular cycles (not post partum) and I typically use 6-10 test sticks per cycle. Clearblue Test sticks come in a box of 30 and range from $25-50 per box depending on covid and time of year. Clearblue monitor is a one time cost and if you buy it new it’s $200, but you can usually find used or discounted on eBay, Mercari, etc. I paid $50 for an instructor for 2 years of follow up contact. A little more costly than other methods but I have avoided for 1.5 years with absolutely no complaints about this method. Worth every penny and more.
Thanks for this video! I can't believe how harmful bc pills were to my body and the things I learned about it that they dont twll you. I've stopped them, and am looking for information for NFP because my husband and I are newly married and so not ready for a little human yet. At least not until we have our own home and a second car. Absolutely this causes stress and anxiety in a marriage. I hope to look into this method more, I wasn't even aware of it until now!
Using NFP with the proper intentions is still being open to life. If a couple has a grave reason to postpone pregnancy, that is completely okay and in line with Church teaching. For some women, having multiple C-sections is a very good reason to postpone pregnancy. Having a bunch of scar tissue and not letting your body properly heal before having the next child might result in complications. Yes, you are not obligated to use NFP, but God gave us the gift of our bodies. It is not a sin to work with our natural bodies.
In my parents generation there was natural rhythm method~ Everytime my mom or aunt got pregnant ~my mom had 8 pregnancies and aunt had 10~ n wud always joke about it~ often pregnant at the same time
So this is probably very silly question but ... is using app calendar on the phone to track your fertility ok or not? Also do you suppose to Use NFP only for medical reasons or is there times when using NFP is a sin?
I don't mean to come off as harsh, but the traditional understanding is far stricter than many online personalities will admit. "Since, therefore, the conjugal act is destined primarily by nature for the begetting of children, those who in exercising it deliberately frustrate its natural power and purpose sin against nature and commit a deed which is shameful and intrinsically vicious." -Pope Pius XI in Casti Connubii (1930)
Now, there are circumstances in which employing NFP is licit, but such circumstances must be justified by grave causes (eg. danger to the wife, to avoid mandated abortion by an oppressive and anti-life government, etc.)
@@VictorianMetalGirl It's impressive that you understand this. So many women don't, and most guys are too soft to actually pursue a woman who does in courtship or hold their wives to this standard.
I’m struggling because we just had a baby and we were doing NFP before, using your average hormone urine test strips and it was very accurate. But now that I am breastfeeding, it is well known that it is very hard to track fertility while doing this and that relying on BF as a form of NFP is more of a myth. I want to have more kids but I have so much anxiety right now and my body is not ready to be pregnant again, and I’ve had such a fear of intimacy with my husband because of this. But it’s a double edged sword because I have a fear of our marriage being ruined due to the lack of intimacy. I heard that the Marquette method is more effective during this period of time after pregnancy when breastfeeding and not having a regular cycle. But how is it different from regular hormonal test strips? (Also, it’s quite expensive. The monitor is over $100 and the test strips that go with it are also not very affordable, at least on Amazon. Is this really the only reliable option?)
I'm a Catholic convert. My wife isn't Catholic. So I'm worried that proposing this to her is going to shock her and burden her with extra responsibilities, checking her body all the time, etc. Add to that the fact that she may have serious health issues if she gets pregnant again, so we need a very reliable method to postpone pregnancy, and add to that the fact that we're not economically stable and having more children at this point would put us in a difficult spot. Plus she is breastfeeding. I want to obey church teaching, the rules are said like its so simple, but in reality it is extremely burdensome... Anyone has some advice for me? Thanks
It worries me learning about a catholic couple that uses NFP with 7 children. Like was it on purpose or did the method not work /: I’m a practicing catholic soon to be married
So receiving the blessing of God worries you? Maybe you are not ready for marriage, the main purpose of marriage IS procreation, being generous with God and accepting the blessing of procreation which he shared with us, to fill Heaven with souls which will give Him glory for all eternity. Don't be closed to life, and don't doubt God. Marriage is a sacrament and the Church teaches that with the sacrament God promises sacramental graces which will help us achieve what he disposed for us.
The Clearblue Monitor (which is the monitor Marquette uses) measures the estrogen rise and the LH surge - more info here on how it works: www.vitaefertility.com/marquette-method-explained/
I want to say something. The ppl i know who practice billings have 4 or more kids. This method requires both parties involved to participate in this and to be on the same page. For someone like me, the ppl who publicly champion billings have alot of kids and so its not a good example for me who wants to prevent pregnancy. Sorry.
But is there still uncertainty within days around fertility regarding to the life span on semen? My wife and I are doing NFP and it’s infuriatingly me with the inaccuracy of tracking her fertility.
Hi Anthony - the Marquette Method has been extremely good for us. However, I would recommend being connected with an instructor. Our video is not intended to be an instructional video, only a testimonial of the blessing this has been to us. Regarding life span of semen... , there are rules to follow with this method. It is not just justing a monitor. If you are interested in more specific information, I welcome you to connect with an instructor. Thank you for sharing your experience. We struggled so much with Billings, been trying two day method. But it's so hard differentiating the secretions since all days have secretions. This has prepared me more to reach out to a Marquette instructor...
Hi Lucy - we can understand the struggle. Marquette continues to be a blessing for our marriage.
Try the Creighton Model FertilityCare System!!!
I really admire both of you ! so holy !
Really Nice video.... We Lobos couple from India doing almost same topics in Indian context
Wow! This is great to know!! I have had success with tracking without strips or anything, as our bodies are incredible teachers of what is going on within-- but I am interested in the lesser amount of stress with this method. lol. And yes, just as you stated, definitely appears to be less time consuming. Thank you!
Veronica Kerin one that we forgot to mention is that this method is more expensive. There is a cost for the monitor, strips and for an instructor.
@@Catholicspeaker Might be worth the money though. Thank you. I appreciate you guys and your videos.
I use it for all my life it real work my first differ for 4 year and second with third 3 year different
Thank you so much for this info. Such a blessing ❤
Glad it was helpful!
Her website:

I hope this helps.
@@Catholicspeaker Thank you so much! I just put in an inquiry. Have a blessed week!
@@brookewatson9923 awesome! Let her know we sent you. She is an old friend. 😀
Any recommendations for people with hypothyroidism?
Can someone recommend a book with exercises for my fiancée on this topic in English
Thumbs up for just and serious part
Thank you for sharing this guys, super helpful.
Brief question :
For people who may genuinely be unable to afford NFP methods that require ' tools ', what would be the best free NFP method for them?
Words and Pictures great point. Yes Marquette can be pricy. We realize we forgot to mention this after recording. Our perior experience was with the Billing’s Ovulation Method. It is free. One typically does not have to paid the instructor... therefore is it affordable and a great gift to the Church. The instructors give a tone of time to helping their clients out of charity. We are extremely grateful to those who got us started. This would be one place to start.
@@Catholicspeaker Fabulous! Thank you for this.
After 911 2020 course if events we need to plan on what works naturally. Fertility is just the beginning when coupling. The journey. For life and wellness never ends.
Abstinence is also a good thing by the way.
Beautiful teaching 😊😊
Thoughts?
Whats the link in amazon to get the monitor?
My my, technology today....wasn't quite like this 27 yrs ago.
Anytime I start trying to understand NFP I just always just end up super confused.
You're not alone! I was like that too until I realized that I didn't know enough about reproductive anatomy. Maybe start from there?
Thanks for watching.
How can one be closed to fertility and open to life at the same time?
What about just being open to life and letting GOD be in control of bringing life into your lives??
"Since, therefore, the conjugal act is destined primarily by nature for the begetting of children, those who in exercising it deliberately frustrate its natural power and purpose sin against nature and commit a deed which is shameful and intrinsically vicious."
-Pope Pius XI in Casti Connubii (1930)
Now, there are circumstances in which employing NFP is licit, but such circumstances must be justified by grave causes (eg. danger to the wife, to avoid mandated abortion by an oppressive and anti-life government, etc.)
@@VictorianMetalGirl It's impressive that you understand this. So many women don't, and most guys are too soft to actually pursue a woman who does in courtship or hold their wives to this standard.
I find many types of marquette when I look to buy, could you please recommend me where I can buy the correct one, or where I can get it🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Exactly where. I am interesting in get it. What is the name of the product of what they are asking exactly In the video
Does this method work postpartum? I am four months portpartum and getting my period/spotting.
Coolness this should be used w/ guidance from the Church and God.
God lbess.
Please let us know if you fell pregnant planned using natural family planning? Or if it was accidental.
FSH and LH measure fertility, hcg is the pregnancy hormone
Maybe combine Marquette with condoms, if you're comfortable with that.
If i dont do NFP then my marriage is a cause of separation from God. It’s silly to think that this is God’s plan.
What is the hormone it measures?
The Clearblue Monitor (which is the monitor Marquette uses) measures the estrogen rise and the LH surge - more info here on how it works: www.vitaefertility.com/marquette-method-explained/
They didn’t remember to tell you that it costs $120 for the clear blue machine…
I want to say something. The ppl i know who practice billings have 4 or more kids. This method requires both parties involved to participate in this and to be on the same page. For someone like me, the ppl who publicly champion billings have alot of kids and so its not a good example for me who wants to prevent pregnancy. Sorry.
They'd say "we've got rhythm🎶"
But is there still uncertainty within days around fertility regarding to the life span on semen? My wife and I are doing NFP and it’s infuriatingly me with the inaccuracy of tracking her fertility.
This question was referring to the clear blue monitor. How accurate is it day to day.
The one we use is: www.vitaefertility.com/meet-louise/
Louise is very knowledgable. 😀
NFP and contraception are the same on a moral level. Both use biological knowledge to prevent pregnancy. No way around it.

All NFP is grave sin because it is the pursuit of secondary ends of marriage at the expense of the primary. This is "forbidden" per casti connubii 59.
