Omg... I had shingles soooooo bad on the right side of my head. All through my scalp, down my face and neck. Talk about miserable. It was so painful. Not itchy. I could barely turn my head. It affected my nerve endings so bad. It still gives me the chills. It came about after I had pneumonia when I was twenty. Talk about sucked.

When I worked at Sally Beauty Supply, I used a hair thickener with keratin in it. I started having awful itching in my scalp and burning. I found that I cannot tolerate keratin in my hair products. Now I am dealing with scalp psoriasis. On multiple shampoos and cortisone creams for my skin. I don't know which one is drying out my scalp so I am using one at a time. It sure is frustrating! Thanks for your videos!

So with me I do have white, small flakes (they look like salt was sprinkled at my roots), but I don’t really get itchy. They usually appear the day after I shampoo my hair, and it slightly increases by the third day. So that’s why I shampoo my hair every 3 days, since it’s sort of like a reset to get rid of them from my scalp. But then they reappear and the cycle begins once more. So would this then be considered to having a dry scalp? And any tips on how to solve this issue?

Not a professional in any case but lately I’ve been struggling with a very dry flaky scalp and frizzy hair. I tried expensive pharmaceutical products but to no avail. The only thing that worked for me is the Garnier botanic therapy shampoo with avocado and shea butter. I think they’re marketed as “whole blends” in the US , anyway , it’s the one in the yellow tube and the brown cap. Works wonders and I would recommend using the respective hair mask on your scalp for better results. On top of that I would suggest rinsing with lukewarm or cold water.

Hi dr. dray, I was hoping to hear about some active ingredients and products that I can look for to treat my dry scalp but the only specific advice for dry scalp that you provided was about the function of beauty products. Would it be possible to hear some recommendations for an additional scalp product I can use to help me moisturize my scalp? I know I don't have dandruff. I am trying to avoid sulfates and fragrance. I use a head and shoulders shampoo + conditioner which targets both dandruff and dry scalp (jojoba oil and argan oil in the products). however I am hoping to find a product I can use after my shower to help with my scalp. I initially thought about trying aloe vera but after watching your video I am not sure that is the best active ingredient for me to pursue. do you have any recommendations for an oil (or something else) I can apply to my head post-shower to help with my constantly dry scalp? thank you

I have scalp psoriasis and in 2016 I used Head & Shoulders only ONCE and I instantly got the worst patches of psoriasis I have ever had. My scalp has been even more sensitive ever since so I would be cautious when it comes to using Anti Dandruff shampoos to treat psoriasis, they can be far too harsh and further aggrevate it. I now use Bioderma Node Fluid and find it wonderful, its very gentle and great on my fine hair! 😊

I have one tip for those of you living in areas with hard water; no matter what anti dandruff shampoos, exfoliating scalp toners or even demineralizing filters fitted to your shower head, you will only relapse because of the residue (soap scum) left in your hair follicles due to the minerals crystalizing and hardening on your scalp leading to inflammation, dandruff and follicultis. The only remedy I've found is using a chelating shampoo to effectively cleanse AND ensure NO residue is left on the scalp post showering.

What helped my condition is changing to a sulfate free shampoo once a week (i use OGX) a nourishing conditioner and a hair mask every other day. I went to a dermatologist. He gave me a topical steroid and told me to come back in a year. Since November I haven’t been able to get a one year follow up and nothing has changed in my scalp. Wish you were my dermatologist.

This was a great video as it seems like all of a sudden I do have an itchy scald with flakes. I have been using Head & Shoulders and sometimes I think it is better but sometimes not. I have ordered the shampoo you love and I hope I love it too. I have white hair so I was thrilled to see they had shampoo for that, but of course I don’t want to be purple . Thanks 😊

I am using Rogaine (Minoxidil) for hairloss. I reduced the use to only once in the evening. But the included alcohol dries my scalp. I need to keep using Rogaine. What can I apply to my scalp in order to support it?

Ugh, I get hives every once in a while while in the shower. I also get them in cases of anxiety. It's aweful.
I've also been to the doctor for my aweful dry scalp. The doctor didn't even look at my scalp and told me it was dandruff. She wouldn't refer me to a dermatologist. The dandruff shampoo just hurt, and I used it for months hoping it meant it would make it better.

have dry scalp. Only thing that has helped me manage it is to use a Boar Bristle Brush AM and PM to help distribute my oils throughout. I wash with Paul Mitchell Hydrate Shampoo and Conditioner really working my fingers into my scalp and I use my Conditioner on my scalp. Spray It's A 10 Miracle Leave In and run through with a comb. I also use Biolage Hydra Source Mask once a week in place of Conditioner. It would be nice to wash every 3 and not every 2 though. DHS dried me out and I also have color treated blonde hair. What would be safe to use on it with what I already use?

Also do you know anything new in the treatment of pattern hair loss? Thanks!!

I’m with you on that, 6 months on Adapalene for me. I think it’s just my hormonal acne at this point. Never ending cycle: hormonal pimples, they go away, leave scars, when the scars are almost faded more hormonal acne comes back. 😞

I been suffering from itchy, flaky scalp. I also get dry flakes inside my ears. I had my final scalp micropigmantation session yesterday. I have read that Eucerin DermoCapillaire Calming Urea Scalp Treatment 100ml is a good scalp mosturizer to use, specially for people with dandruff and dry flaky scalp. Have to use good mosturizer to keep scalp hydrated but don't want it to strip my pigments. I been using baby shampoo but it drys up my scalp too. I was using nizoral before scal micropigmantation.
Iam going to try this one
Real Raw Apple Cider Vinegar Shampoo & Conditioner set - Cleanse & Hydrate - No Water 100% Pure Aloe Juice & Coconut Water - Sulfate & Paraben Free.
