Use an applicator bottle to apply medicated shampoo to your scalp only. I rotate between Nizoral and Selsun Blue Salicylic Acid formula and apply neosporin to my scalp after I shampoo. The Neosporin kills any bacteria under the skin on your scalp that can keep fungus lurking

I bought the T/Sal (not T/Gel, I wanted the salicylic acid not the coal tar) and the Head & Shoulders Royal Oils Daily Moisture Scalp Cream (as opposed to the recommended elixir in this video), and just completed this treatment in the shower. My scalp feels SOOOO GOOD!!! To my surprise my scalp was actually red in some areas while I was parting through sections and applying the shampoo. Once I was ready to deep condition, I applied the scalp cream between my parts and my scalp was a neutral colour and CLEAN!!! No flakes in sight!!
My issue has always been that I wash my hair and the flakes didn't go away, or would be sticking to my strands, making me feel like I didn't wash my hair properly!! This remedy is the truth!! THANK YOU DR. STEPHENS!!
(I will still see a dermatologist if this doesn't help long term, but thought I would try your tips first!!)

I don’t even use a conditioner with it and my hair looks great. I do have Vanicream shampoo and conditioner at home along with their cleansing bar and that’s all I can use. Definitely needed this video! Thank you so much. I was so excited when I saw your short version and was hoping this one was on the way. Prayer answered!👏🏽 I started suffering with this in my 20s and it's been a struggle ever since. Seen a couple of dermatologists for the condition, but this video has been the most helpful.
Unfortunately, my son started suffering from this some years back as well and he's only 11.
This is especially helpful because it's practical. You provide solutions that a black woman (and child), with kinky/coily hair can actually implement. The first derm I saw told me to wash my 4c afro daily with a drying medicated shampoo. Side eye and goodbye. The second one simply reiterated using the medicated shampoo, with no additional information.
After lots of research, trial and error, and coming close (many times) to shaving my head just to be able to wash it daily, my the condition is under better control. However, this information you provided will help to improve our routines even more. I never knew the importance of using the leave on scalp treatments. That will definitely be added.
I appreciate this thorough explanation more than you know. Thank you again for all you do!

I've used prescription shampoos, every over the counter dandruff shampoo and I use Bethamethasone Dipropionate Lotion 5%. I'm currently using the clinical strength Head and Shoulders that you show along with their itch scalp version.
The Bethamethasone helps in my ears and relieves some of the itching on my scalp but nothing has ever controlled the dandruff, loss of pigmentation on my forehead, the bleeding and now the hair loss.
I also have Eczema on my elbows, legs feet, etc..
Having this condition on my hair is one of my very first memories. At 61 I still walk around with my clothes full of dandruff.
It's an embarrassment to me and it was to my kids when they were little.
Now that I'm older these shampoos strip the color out of my hair. The Head and Shoulders Clinical is more delicate on my hair color.

I've been struggling with this condition for several years, but believe I may have recently stumbled upon something that really seems to be helping. I started taking both MSM and selenium (sodium selenite) for other reasons, and my skin has improved dramatically. Other people have had success with caprylic acid, and I do think that helped as well. I think all these things have the potential to help a lot, and it might be worth talking to a doctor about.

Thank you. I will do some research and see if any of these will work for me. I always treat "natural supplements" with the same caution as prescription medication. The side effects can be just as bad. But when you're careful they can (sometimes) be much more effective than meds, not to mention cheaper. For these reasons I normally try "natural" first then prescription when all else fails.

Thank you. I appreciate these tips. I went to a dermatologist before about my scalp issue and they just brushed me off. The doctor actually said “ I’m surprised you was your hair once a week, most African Americans only wash their hair once a month.” 😑

Thanks for talking about this. I feel like no one has until recently, and I've had severe Seb Derm for 30 years. It seems to be much more common now. I wonder why? Some ingredients in skin products that weren't common in the past? Some water additives or food additives that weren't used as often before? I wonder if this is happening in non-Western countries, or even outside the US?

    Thank you for Medical Mondays!!!
I have tried every last one of those products and they flare my seborrheic dermatitis. The absolute best and most efficient treatment for me is mixture of Apple-Cider Vinegar and Baking Soda. Saved my life and my wallet, not to mention how great my scalp feels for weeks afterward.

I would love to kno exactly how you do it. Anything to save my wallet is a yes for me. At least I can try right ✅ 🤷🏽‍♀️
I must advise you though, consuming sugar in drinks and foods and also dairy products always give me a flare up. I basically do nothing as funds are low.

@@elizabethroblyn1392 Apple-Cider Vinegar (1 Cup) and Baking Soda (1/2 cup) mixture. It will foam... Apply to head/scalp and gently scrub then rinse and repeat. Then wash and condition as normal or skip the shampoo process all together. I generally use this process once monthly, but I haven't had use it now going on three months (I wash once with a small amount of shampoo and condition as normal). The flakes have not returned thus far and I too have a poor diet and have suffered from seborrheic dermatitis for 49 yrs... It also cleanses my face (eyebrow & nose area) and rarely have to treat those anymore. I previously used a steroid based lotion prescribed daily; now only once monthly. I'm not saying it's for everyone but my children and I are thankful we tried it. I got the remedy from a hairdresser around 2 1/2 years ago for the FREE $$ .99 (ABSOLUTEY FREE).

I've just recently been diagnosed with an allergy to neosporin, and dealing with the rash has been an interesting experience. I have my first appointment with a derm in a few weeks!

My scalp had become really sensitive and a constant burning pain sensation. I was so relieved with the SB diagnosis from my dermatologist, because I knew something was wrong, but didn't have a name for it. I can't believe the pain and discomfort! My hair is too sensitive to comb at the moment. I really hope the prescription shampoo and steroid oil work!

My dermatologist continuously prescribes betamethasone to help treat seb derm on my scalp but it no longer works for me. Are they’re any natural remedies to help relieve the irritating effects of seb derm? I know you mentioned tea tree oil and peppermint oil.

I am doing tip # 4, I will try to alternate the salycidic acid shampoo with the Paul Mitchell tea tree oil shampoo. I still have to use a Dermasmooth prescription because I can have sevre flare ups sometimes. I also use a shower head filter an di helps a lot with so many chemicals they put in the water. Very informative video, thanks, doc!

Great video! Head and shoulders supreme works wonders for me - not drying at all! Used to use Nizoral and T Gel but they were too drying. Also found that, since I haven’t straightened or blow dried my hair for over 7 months, my scalp is much calmer!
Can you do a video on treatment for Angular Cheilitis? I’ve suffered from severely cracked corners of my mouth for over two years. Been seen by my doctor several times but it just won’t heal despite anti fungal creams, steroid creams, fragrance free skincare, rare application of makeup, blood tests to see if I have deficiencies (only vitamin D which I now supplement), SPF daily and constant use of recommended repair lip balms. It’s so painful and unsightly. Any tips would be much appreciated!!
You’re doing a great job, I love your videos!

I have no idea if this will help, but I had cracked sores on the corners of my mouth during cancer treatment. My immune system was so low that neither Neosporin nor tea tree oil would help it heal for 3 weeks. My Oncologist finally had to blast it with very strong Mupirocin Ointment. It cleared right up. I wouldn't use it except when nothing else works though because you don't want to be immune to it if you have a life-threatening infection.... Maybe have your dermatologist biopsy the sores first?

I have Seborrheic Dermatitis and nothing have helped until now. I got diabetes and because of that I started a zero carbohydrate diet called carnivore diet, I eat only meat, fish, eggs and fermented dairy. This diet improved my Seborrheic Dermatitis a whole lot, I've stopped using the poison on my head and use ACV to kill the Malassezia and it's good enough but it seams to be secondary. The primary is bad food, don't eat carbs, it's poison.

Conflicting information by other Doctors and people on the internet. Is dry scalp and flaking a mild form of Seborrheic Derm? My scalp isn't greasy at all. Dry, flaky (small), itchy, even after washing with Free & Clear/Vanicream shampoo and conditioner which was recommend by my Derm. She gave me 4 minutes of her time... I wash in luke warm water as well and make sure all shampoo and conditioner is fully washed out. Thank you very much !
