Ive had bad eczema on and off my whole life. Now I am 99% clear. this is what ive learned:
    - Dermatologists will prescribe steroid creams, and anti histamins, they dont fix the root cause, and it will just cover the symptoms, but the eczema will keep coming back, in my opinion they dont know how to fix eczema.
    - The main causes are: food intolerances, allergies / auto inmune issues, gut health, and vitamin deficiencies, by managing these i am 99% clear.
    - My main triggers are animals, dust mites and certain foods and heavy alcohol consumption. Once i have an allergic reaction, my inmune system goes overdrive, and i become allergic to everything, within 2-3 weeks of getting an allergic reaction, ill eat something that causes a new reaction, and ill get eczema all over my body, when i remove the allergen, it clears within 1 month, month and a half. Get yourself tested for allergies, and remove them from your life.
    - If you are allergic to dust mites like me, you have to change the bed sheets every 2 days, and pijama daily, otherwise they make me itch terribly. I had to change all bed sheets, duvet, pillow to natural fibres, because polyester etc have static electricity, which attracts a lot of dust, i had to replace duvets with wool blankets because they dont have static electricty, breathe better, and are resistant to bacteria and mold, leave the bed undone with the window open during cold months to kill the dust mites, they dont like cold and dry conditions. Vacuum the sheets daily, and the matress when changing the sheets.
    - Dairy causes me to have severe break outs, i can only take dairy once in a blue moon. Many people I know will also get acne and dry skin because of dairy.
    - When I used to drink alcohol heavily, I had terrible break outs, and had eczema all over my body head to toes, in my scalp, in my ears, etc, i read that alcohol depletes your body of vitamins A, C, and B, which are all needed to have a healthy skin. Eating sweet potatoes for the vitamin A, and having 4-5k mg of vitamin C helped me almost overnight, eat the sweet potatoes with some oil, as vitamin A is fat soluble, youll absrove it better. As long as I drink very sparingly I dont get terrible breakouts. If you have eczema, remove alcohol from your diet, let you liver / kidneys heal.
    - other foods that have helped with dry / red skin around my eyes and neck is hummus, i dont know why, eat it 3 times a day for a few days and youll see it helps with the inflamation.
    - if you dont have good digestion, you need to improve your diet, this is critical, most of us are addicted to bad food, you need to: remove junk food, eat more fruit, vegetables and legumes try to get at least 30g of fibre a day, incorporate fermented food, pro biotics, prebiotics, remove dairy which has 15 separate inflammatory compounds, and remove gluten as many are sensitive to it. Remove sugar and transfats. There is a big link between your gut and your immune system, eczema is a disregulation of your inmune system. Read about leaky gut. Start taking bone broth, and supplement with glutamin, both help to reduce the permeability of your gut, and helps to rebuild gut lining integrity. Also walk more often try to hit 10k steps a day, because walking helps with your gut health. Healing your gut will take a lot of time and work to produce results, committ to at least 6 months of healthy eating. If you are not making smooth, round banana like feces, regularly, and expulsing them without discomfort, then youll continue to have break outs.
    - meditation and fasting also helps with your gut, theres a type of bacteria that only increases when we dont eat food. Meditation will help with your anxiety / stress, which causes more breakouts.
    - Improve your diet, this is key! most people will feel a lot of resitance, because we are addicted to bad food.
    - Once i had bad sores / dryness around my fingers for months, i did some blood work, it turns out i was deficient on vitamin D, which apparently is common among people with psoriasis / eczema, i started supplementing with 2-4k mu of vitamin D3 daily , the sores cleared in a few days. Once again, vitamin D is linked to gut health too, lack of gut biome diversity leads to vitamin D deficiency, it all comes down to your gut and diet.
    - when you have bad break outs, crush a few garlic bulbs and let them sit for 20minutes to develop allicin, then mix in a warm bath, and steep into it, make sure you buy garlic that has the green bits in the middle and is not hollow (if it is hollow, it means it has been irradiated to increase the shell life, and wont develop allicin when crushed). Garlic is extremely potent against staph, the bacteria on our skin that causes the redness / inflammation when our outer barrier becomes compromised, try to do this x2 a day for a few days, within 2-3 days youll see the inflammation reduces. Yes, youll smell bad, but youll be in less pain.
    - tea trea oil diluted in water, or a hydrating cream helps with the itch.
    - the best creams are both hydrating, anti bacterial / fungal, anti inflammatory, i like hope's relief range, also sukin because its all natural ingredients.
    Summary:
    - get tested for allergenes, remove them from your life.
    - remove alcohol completely.
    - eczema originates from your gut health, gut health is linked to your inmune system, eczema is an auto inmune disease originating mainly from an unhealthy gut.
    - improve your diet, remove dairy, gluten, sugar, trans fats, get 30g fibre a day, take pre and pro biotics.

Dr Syed's point of not using topical steroid cream for more than 2 weeks is golden advice. My doctor told me to keep using it continuously and after years it barely worked anymore so I stopped using it. Now I have topical steroid withdrawal and it's debilitating to my life. I'll never use topical steroids ever again. Be very careful.

Coming from a chronic eczema sufferer for 30 years, in and out of hospital for years, antibiotics, immunosuppressants, steroid ointments, you name it I’ve done it. Head to toe in thick open wound scab anyone that’s experienced this will understand the physical and psychological trauma this puts on you in so many aspects. Nothing even came close to being anywhere as effective as eating organic food, no sugar, plenty of water and one meal a day of calorie and Nutrient dense food with occasional periods of fasting 2-3 days, and regular exercise and resistance training and most importantly good quality sleep. If you suffer it as bad as I did to the point where you are literally desperate to try anything you will find that discipline and it gets easier and easier as your body and gut begin to heal, all the stress that comes with it fades away and all the benefits compound with each other. It’s a lot to take in but take one step at a time and don’t overload all these changes if they are habits you are not accustomed too or you might find yourself falling off the wagon. It’s also not a temporary remedy it’s a lifestyle change. You will begin to feel thankful that you have sensitives that you can see what works and what doesn’t quite quickly as opposed to someone who doesn’t have this issue who eats whatever they want and not feel the effects you do only to pay for it later in life. Be grateful your body is sensitive enough that it’s telling you what not to do and what to keep doing more of with noticeable effects compared to the average person. That’s the positive I took away from having such severe sensitivities. Overtime as your body heals you will find you may be able to enjoy foods and activities that you once weren’t able to in moderation and the discipline you build from working on these lifestyle changes will prevent you from going back down the rabbit hole when you do treat yourself to foods or beverages you once couldn’t consume, but you may feel so good that you won’t even want to go back to trying those foods you once enjoyed because you don’t crave sugar or those processed foods anymore knowing that’s probably what’s been hammering your immune system more than anything amongst steroid ointments and immunosuppressants. I’ve healed 95% of my skin issues, no excess body fat, fit, strong and full of energy and sleep right through the night this is 100% achievable with commitment and discipline. I’ve never met anyone half as bad as I’ve had it and anyone I know hasn’t meet anyone that has suffered as bad as I had it just to highlight the severity of my particular case. I wouldn’t wish it on my worse enemy and I’m sure anyone that’s been in my shoes understands how much this condition can ruin so many parts of your life. You all deserve that sense of normality so it’s worth the effort I promise you that.

Other lifestyle modifications that are actually quite helpful are diet and anxiety/stress management. Consuming fermented foods and taking probiotics coupled with limited triggering foods such as dairy or eggs or nuts has proven to be quite helpful in the management of this chronic condition. Moreover, meditation and other means of relieving stress also work wonders for some as stress is an equally potent yet manageable/preventable trigger.

Great input! Totally agree that stress worsens every skin disease, and so any strategies that can reduce stress will definitely be helpful for skin. Probiotics and gut microbiome interventions are showing increasing promise in the research too! Think in this next decade we’re going to see huge overlap between gut health and skin disease start to be understood.

I had eczema when I was younger. I had a breakout on my legs and used prescription steroid cream on my legs. I started having nightmares and afraid of dying - very unlike 'me'. I looked up in the PDR and 1) steroid cream is absorbed through the skin, especially when covered. 2) It can cause psychosis and paranoia. So, I stopped the cream and started looking for the cause. After changing my laundry detergent, soap and shampoo, it went away and never returned. I don't think MDs are trained in looking for the cause, just 'diagnose and drug'.

the "outside-in" hypothesis has been addressed with various things like moisturizers, humidifier & steroids. the inside-out hypothesis( bad gut health, high sugar intake, gluten & other allergens, stress) could have been added which is the main cauce I believe.

about to switch to an inside-out approach. I've only been suppressing it for just over 3 years doing the outside-in thing, its only got more strange recently. If you know about any cases where people switch this way of thinking around and see positive results, I'd be super grateful if you could let me know about one or two. would be mega encouraging. cheers

    • @utubevenky

@@64startetra Definitely the moisturizing part has to be take care of to heal it (if not completely cure it) but the fact that one can only maintain it and expecting it to "not flare up" says that there is some problem inside as well. If one has not fully conquered it means you r addressing the symptoms with the underlying condition being ignored, which is the allopathic way of treating a disorder :)
One has to look for allergic reactions, many people will have for gluten. If there is flare up / itching after consumption of some food then that has to be avoided. also good gut health(without leaks) is paramount,as food particles enter blood stream and trigger unnecessary reactions which lead to eruptions in skin. Good probiotic food(fermented food) and also prebiotic food that encourage good bacteria should be consumed.
Flushing out the colon through laxatives ( Triphala etc) and regular fasting may improve the condition.Cheers !!

@@64startetra I have eczema. Here's what I learned. It's an internal autoimmune/inflammatory condition that manifests itself as an external skin disease. You cannot constantly prescribe and apply topical ointments thinking that's going to get rid of eczema. A root cause approach works best. 5. Gut microbiome imbalances SOLUTION: take a probiotic, though for me personally I have taken a probiotic and noticed no difference in my skin. So this is likely not the root cause of my eczema and my gut health is fine. But for some people this helps a lot.
Good luck! Let me know if you have any questions. I do take supplements, but I'm trying to fine-tune them so I don't overwhelm myself and spend too much money. I'm working on narrowing it down to what I feel I really need.

This video was very helpful with improving my understanding of my condition, when I was a little kid I used to have an eczema sore so large and so itchy it just became a big red bleeding sore on the back of my leg that would send me crying when it would act up, we tried everything to get it cleared, from salt baths to steroid creams I had to be weened off of, and it still did not clear up, out of all the treatments we ever tried for me, the ONLY thing that worked was a now discontinied product from neosporin being a body wash and a cream they made for eczema treatment, I eventually got that spot cleared up but now that its discontinued I fear for what might happen if it were to flare up again in a major way but I haven't had a major breakout in many years even after we exhausted our last tube of that cream, I just wish I knew what the active ingredients were. At the time I was told I had a mild condition but judgeing by how casually you talk about it in this video maybe my case was more severe then I was led to believe or maybe it just doesn't typically effect little kids but reguardless this video has helped greatly

I am not too sure of all of its active ingredients but I know it has Mangifera Indica (Mango) Seed Butter and NAD and vitamin e. Good thing about it is I can still use it daily even though I do not have eczema any more.

I give myself Dupixent shots every two weeks. Without them I could not work as the eczema on my hands is so bad that it bleeds into my nitrile gloves and pools at the finger tips. As I work with medical equipment, not wearing gloves sets me up for some pretty horrible consequences. I would have had to literally change my profession in order to survive. I have done everything you mention and without the Dupixent? I look like a blob but my hands get the worst of it. I used to duct tape gloves on at night to keep myself from scratching my palms and hands. Now I have to make sure to cream them up regularly (as I have to wash my hands all the time at work), use Eucrisa and during the winter months they get flaky but for the most part the rest of me is eczema free and the hands are pretty good. Hello Doc.
I’ve had eczema since a toddler, went through ointments and medications.
Since I was 20, I’ve had a water softener, and clear skin. If I use other water when I’m at work, my hands will start to show eczema on tops of my fingers close to the nails.
It’s the simplest way to get freedom from this eczema. A water softener removes the hardness minerals, that combine with any cleaners / soap and sticks to your body, and this is how the eczema stays on your body. This is truly a Godsend.Only Military Doctors will share this info, not sure why, but have a great theory.Water softeners are also very beneficial to the entire household. You use much less soap, shampoo, bathroom cleaner, because they’re not mixing with hardness minerals. These are inorganic minerals in your water, no benefit to your body.

For sure allergies can worsen eczema! So for people who have allergies, it’s really important to avoid both contact and dietary allergens that can flare their skin disease! I wouldn’t say it’s caused by allergies, more that people who have eczema are ‘atopic’ at baseline, meaning they are allergy prone, and vice versa!

Any advice on certain clothing fabrics to avoid for eczema/dermatitis? I find that wearing certain types of wool and “tech” moisture wicking fabrics leads to itching and eventually eczema/dermatitis.

    • @usamasyed

2 top Dermatologists & 1 Immunologist failed to treat my severe eczema. I was even hospitalized twice for it. Then I bumped into Dr Eric Berg video on high dose Vit D (over 30,000 iu a day) for autoimmune disorder. After few months of Vit D + Intermittent Fasting, my eczema completely subsided. I’ve also stopped sugar & carb. I’m 1.5 mths into carnivore diet now to further improve my health.

My eyelids have recurrences of eczema. I was prescribed alclometasone, but have a fear of glaucoma. My dermatologist also prescribed a non-steroid in between but it stings. When the eczema flares on my eyelids now, I use Cerave healing ointment. I have also used Skinfix eczema balm. I use a humidifier. Thankfully Curel Hydratherapy helps the rest of my body. But I'd really like to prevent the eyelid eczema, which brought me here. Thank you for this informative video.

I have eyelid eczema too. What has helped me is closing my eye, then while having my eye under the almost cold running water, very gently rubbing my closed eyelashes. The water that drips into my eye afterwards acts as a moisturizer. Then I rub a very small amount of Vaseline into the lashes, being careful not to get it into my eyes which distorts vision temporarily.

I don't know if a bleach bath would help or not. I've had this since last November and it's on my arms, full length, my entire back over my ribs, lower abdomen, scalp, one thigh, the other knee and shin. I've tried every thing from OTC products to vinegar to essential oils, oatmeal baths, castor oil, hydrocortisone to diet restrictions to $53 & $156 prescription creams. The docs did blood tests and a skin punch biopsy. Nothing at all diagnosed about bacteria. Skin biopsy said it was due to arthropod bite. Docs said no, no, no that can't be it. Next recommended: $4000/mo injections of biologics. I can't afford the money or the side effects, which can be severe.
I COMPLETELY AGREE with the person who says you must find the root cause. Everything else is a soother or a bandaid. When the medical world says there is no cure they mean they don't know how to cure it. Of course there's a cure. It be different for each of us.

Using a humidifier changed my LIFE! My skin is always glowing and soft! It also helps with my dry nose and dry mouth that I get when I sleep.
When I have a flare up, I like to use prescription Elidel (pimecrolimus) cream underneath Cerave healing ointment after a shower. And I combine this all with wet wrap therapy. Takes out my flare ups like nothing!

Brilliant content! I'd love to hear your two cents on skin issues particularly around the eyes, as it seems like most treatments can be pretty hazardous when it comes to the skin around the eyes because of the risk associated with getting product in the actual eye. I developed a very sudden and very aggressive eczema around my eyes just a few months ago with absolutely no trigger whatsoever, and am currently battling it out by myself as I can't afford to see a doctor about this currently. I've found an OTC 0,5% hydrocortisone cream gets rid of the eczema completely but it only takes a few days to a week to flare up again :(

Never use cortisone around the eyes. There are four important ocular side effects of corticosteroids: steroid-induced glaucoma, cataract formation, delayed wound healing, and increased susceptibility to infection.

I wash my eyelids every morning under the faucet with barely warm water & gently message the eyelashes to clean everything. The water that gets into my eyes after washing lubricates my eyes making my vision better. Then because the eczema on the eyelashes is dry, I rub a very minute amount of Vaseline on the eyelash area being very careful not to get the Vaseline into my eyes which distorts my vision. This makes my eyes much more comfortable.
