BKC is a player who has been around since the Gen 4 Wi-Fi battle days, and has been one of the strongest in multiple generations for over 15 years.
He's definitely in the conversation for Greatest player of all time. And on top of that, he also has a great TH-cam channel with a lot of informative content. His channel helped me out when I was first learning Old Gens.
In a show match organized by Ausma, I played BKC in a Multi Generational Best of 5 set.
Time to put my knowledge of classic Metagames to the test against one of the Pokemon Greats. Can I emerge victorious? Perhaps.

Gen 9 Competitive Pokemon wouldn't be the same without this powerful pink blob. He kinda looks like someone I met in one of my game design and development courses.
Gen 9 Pokemon Showdown is one of the greatest online gaming sites in history. From Pikachu and Charizard, to Palafin and Roaring Moon, The new Pokemon games, Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, have introduced a lot of new faces. Can I succeed in one of the best android games of all time? If so, I'm gonna get myself a Walmart bakery Pokemon cake to celebrate.
Gholdengo is a Pokemon made of pure gold. He must have done some online business management courses to accumulate all that wealth. Or perhaps he might want to learn how to make money playing video games on TH-cam. In any case, he's a powerful metagame force, with absolutely no interest in online game development schools.

back in my day when all we had was Red and Blue, we still had online battle simulators. we would use IRC and a perl script and it was completely text based. so battling with pokemon online actually started way before you mention

Internet Relay Chat bots existed even before Net Battle, before Ruby and Sapphire, during the GSC days and early ADV. I think a lot of that history has been lost to time, but battles used to be entirely text based. There was no gui. There was no team builder. You had to type in your Effort Values and everything else by hand with the right syntax. It was beautiful.

The opening image of Pokemon Netbattle unlocked a deep memory in me - holy moly.
I remember playing competitive battles on MIIRC chat servers in 8th grade on the school computers before Netbattle existed. It was entirely text based, no health bars or sprites or anything like that, and it was wild.

Really fun video and great concept! Feels like it could be a series. Maybe it could have been edited in a way that makes the battles easier to follow, sometimes I didn't know what had happened until I read the battle log on the side.

Very interesting to see the different approach to revealing information between you and mister chicken. You're freely switching in and revealing most of your team early on in the battle while mister chicken has half of his team unrevealed for most of the battle.
The 'hidden last' aspect of old gen players is a very cool dynamic that newer gen players don't fully utilise.
I need more of this.

I was so hoping bkc would counter a second time when you went with alakazam t wave in round 5. Gen 1 counter is very funny, using the last damage recieved regardless of turn, so long as it's from a normal or fighting move.
I was among the people who downloaded and messed around with Netbattle back before they implemented Gen 3 into the system.
I was never good, I was always terrible at competitive pokemon, but seeing that program is a crazy nostalgia trip for me, lol.

Sunny day-rest talk moltres is easily one of my favorite sets. It is super spicy, and it i love running it on a sunny day team with Houndoom and Entei.
Huge advocate for Gen 3 OU in the past.

It was cool seeing the first 5 gens all being played, though one thing I didn't realise was that Latias was allowed in Gen 4 OU again, I know from FSG vids that it was tested at one point in time, then banned as was Salamence

You know how Wolfeys worst generation was gen 7. My two worst generations were gen 8 due to zacian and other legendary Pokémon due to them being incredibly overpowered. and gen 2 because there is a lot of stalling in that generation. Typically it would take me and my opponent 40 turns to finish a gen 2 match.

@@tecul1 I have I played Pokémon sword and shield competively did not do well in that game, I have played scarlet and violet competively with more success making it to master ball tier more than once, and I play Pokémon showdown both build my teams and play random more than building teams and before all of those games I have played Pokémon go in the past.
