Gen 3 OU is 100% the Melee of Pokemon singles. It's fundies heavy, with fewer options overall leading to individual Pokemon having more flexible and meaningful niches. Very straightforward metagame because you know what to expect most of the games. Techs and options that cannot exist in other games because of the mechanics being different (such as the physical/special split). The community absolutely carries this on their back, since everyone else moved on already, so to speak. There are a lot of cool highlights to gen 3 that we never got to see outside of these guys pulling that community with their teeth. It's honestly really freaking cool to think about. I love that this video can exist. Iron Mugulis will not outperform this vid. Probably just going to react to this anyway to farm views. Insidious cup
This is honestly really great! For someone who has watched all of ADV Revival, there were some terms like yolo skarm that I didn’t quite understand. It’s nice for beginners to get definitions all in one video
I attempted to find Iron Mugulis's video titled "The Drinkware Iceberg" so I could slander it in the name of Jimmothy Cool, but the algorithm kept it from me. I think he's teamed up with Old Money to pay off TH-cam executives to keep his video safe from Jimmothy Cool subscribers.
You are without question my favorite pokemon channel of all time, I only see this level of quality of competitive pokemon analysis nowadays for either SV or VGC history, keep up the awesome work! 🔥
Exceptionnal quality, well constructed and informative video. I love learning metagame lore like this (the Houdini bit was hilarious). Part 2 will be, for a lack of a better word, insane.
Been trying to get my friends into adv but feels like theres a lot to explain but this does a lot of it for me in a concise way. Good work Jim, and good luck in your continued struggles against Iron Mugulis
It is very knowledge-heavy, and this can often get in the way of having fun because you need to keep your brain on overload in order to not fall into a trap.
I really liked the video. I have never played Pokémon, but I have been watching FalseSwipe gaming for years. I slowly came to a general understanding of the game and its mechanics, but there were a lot of unexplained gaps. I found your channel a month or two ago and have watched you for dozens of hours at this point. Now I know why I never see you play Snorelax. It requires a lot of team support, so it isn't flexible can't be slapped on to most teams.
finally started to actually play some ADV recently after a few months of just spectating and watching your videos then suddenly this comes out. this is insane. you are my hero mr cool
I think it would be really cool If you choose some pmd music where the deeper you go with the eisberg chart, the music changes to those of deeper stages in the dungeon. Also it would be cool to have a short introduction or pause when progressing to the next stage. Love your videos
wish i could see the larger iceberg at least periodically as you speak on each topic, it helps the theming of the iceberg-type video quite a bit for me, otherwise excellently explained on each topic
Honestly, I was one of those people turned off by Gen 3's lack of physical/special split, but the big tournament you ran changed my mind on the idea. I like the concept that every pokemon doesn't need to run purely stab moves to be effective.
I remember fondly our polish gen3 community around 12 yo where I learned how to play pokemons profesionally by using in tournaments my in game teams good times
Great video, hopefully it gets more people into the format. Now that I’ve started playing gen 3 ou (I’ve played you twice, Jim, my name is young jee tryhard), I have very little interest in the other metagames.
20 years of TITANIC battles and tournament play CRASHES onto my subscription page today with this ICEBERG video (the Titantic cruise was replaced by the Olympic pre voyage, and sank in one of the largest successful insurance fraud cases rivaling only Silversteins in 2001)
I've been a bit busy running what if my cousin's character was a Pokémon. Turns out, Fire/Psychic with a great movepool and some well-distributed stats creates something that can stay in OU for multiple generations.
What I want to know about the physical special split is why they decided to make ghost a physical type but only have three ghost types that are all special attackers in Gen 1. And why they made two ghost moves of lick and night shade
In terms of Taunt turns, and since I didn’t see it on the Iceberg image at the start of the vid (I may have just missed it lol), a tangent move is Encore. It’s not specific to Gen 3 since it’s also relevant in Gen 4 but the Encore turns are variable, lasting from 2 to 6 turns compared to moderns Gens where it always lasts for 3. Less relevant than Taunt I think but still interesting I think
i disagree with the idea that sleep talk's reset wasn't intentional, i think it was a deliberate nerf after seeing how rampant sleep talk + rest was in gen 2, same as it not being able to call rest anymore
Level 3 sumarrizes my whole gen 3 VGS experience. It was all about getting that JaskWak thick club action up babyyyy. Add in a soundproof / ingrain pokemon and you're set

i love gen 3 ou
I love jimothy cool
Gamefreak messed it up with Tyranitar. Sand storm should only last 5 rounds if he isnt on the field.
Find yourself someone who loves you as much as Jimothy loves Gen 3 OU
That is the kind of true love i want for myself
who needs a girlfriend when you've got gen 3 OU ?
I have a partner who loves me more than dota, and he's spent about 9k hours in dota
I do@@TheMightyNaryar

Smogon and banning shit that isn't named gambit

I will certainly do the same thing.
I also vow to proclaim how insane [Part 2] will be
The past paradox form of Regice, Regiceberg.
Don't forget Dugtrio's paradox's future form: Iron Dugulis
Regice’s future paradox form, Regiglobalwarming
My favourite thing about gen 3 is Magneton trapping Skarmory and then dugtrio trapping magneton and then porygon 2 trapping dugtrio
where is the morally reprehensible pokemon gardevoir

idk why but an exploding choice band metagross terrorizing players is so funny to me lmao

Gen 3 competitive singles has a history stretching back twenty years.
Full of incredible stories, metagame developments, controversies and lore
Gen 3 OU remains one of the most popular old generations of competitive pokemon to this day
And we are still seeing freguent innovations in high-level tournament play.
this is insane.
Wow.
I had no idea CroCune was actually named after someone. I always assumed it just stood for Calm Mind, Resttalk, One attack suicune.
I thought they said Grokune
Like
Suicune's nickname was gokune (goku suicune) and calm mind was making it grow
45 minutes video, you're really working hard for this channel and the viewers. Thanks.
best way to start the day is with a new and jimothy cool iceberg alongside a iron mugulus of coffee
glad someone with such large knowledge on the metagame is making a video like this! cant wait for part 2
Ice is a start, but when will you be tackling the other 17 Types of Berg?
Personally I like to run dragonberg.
Andy Samberg explained is coming soon.
Normalberg incoming!

I never realized that Wak's gen III sprite has two right hands.
This is insane.
what do you mean? His body is the second curve behind his right arm. His hand splits up around the bone. And the left arm has a left hand
@@RobWirdWachsen Look better at the left thumb, it's on the wrong side.
This was definitely a change of pace from your usual content, but a good one! Can't wait for part 2.
This is one of my favorite jimothy cool videos ever. This is certifiably insane work! Keep the love and knowledge for Gen 3 coming!
My god hearing the elinia music from maplestory during the mr mime ban segment activated me like a sleeper agent
Iceberg and niche pokemon content? Banger vid
Gen 3 lore, this is insane
how incredible is that an hour long vid felt less long, it was very digestible

This is something I've been looking for to get into ADV OU. I think this will help me a lot and others.

Exceptionnal quality, well constructed and informative video. I love learning metagame lore like this (the Houdini bit was hilarious). Part 2 will be, for a lack of a better word, insane.
Jim, can we get some Gen 3 UU coverage? No idea what goes on in that tier.
He doesn’t play UU so I doubt he’d cover it
Don't worry about it. It's not very good.
You mean KU?
You’re kidding me with the Jimothy iceberg we are EATIN
This is truly insane. Definitely a fun video. Cant wait for pt2
Im rewatching the Ice Berg and it is such a good video, even for the concept I really like.
Houdini comes from Smurf for the record
Never knew that!
roro sighting!
Thanks for explaining some concepts to us, Mr. Jimothy. We gen 3 newbies are a little... overwhelmed by the jargon sometimes.

Wow, your videos taught me a lot more about Gen 3 OU than I realized. A decent chunk of things you talked about this video I already knew
I think it would be really cool If you choose some pmd music where the deeper you go with the eisberg chart, the music changes to those of deeper stages in the dungeon.
Also it would be cool to have a short introduction or pause when progressing to the next stage.
Love your videos
This is the greatest thing I never knew I needed. Now I need one for every gen, every tier and every salty playground meta ever crafted
THIS VIDEO HAS ANSWERED MANY QUESTIONS I HAVE HAD ABOUT GENERATION THREE.
Dang man I considered myself decently knowledgeable about gen 3 but I learned a whole lot of mechanics and strategies. Cool vid
I love the iceberg analysis! Thanks for making this video Jim :D
Absolutely love anything Gen 3. One reason why I will forever love your channel 💙
45 minutes of GOOD JIM let's go
The Silent Quick Claw section cracked me up 🤣 30:59
This was my first time hearing about the Gen 3 counter/hidden power glitch. Interesting stuff!
wish i could see the larger iceberg at least periodically as you speak on each topic, it helps the theming of the iceberg-type video quite a bit for me, otherwise excellently explained on each topic
Great video! Enjoying it a lot, looking forward to part 2!
Jimothy Cool is the hero we didn't deserve but we needed.
This was a fun video! Looking forward to the rest.

it ain't good or bad, just different
I really love this video. I would love to get into comp gen 3 but I feel like learning it would be a chore
Loved this, great work with the explanations. Can't wait for pt 2
I’m actually interested in playing Gen 3 OU because of your videos
great video, you got me into experimenting with teams on the ladder you absolute maniac

Outstanding in it's field
very good video, maybe pokémon specific icebergs for stuff such as esoteric spreads and strategies could be fun!
Love this idea. Hyped for Part 2
Awesome video btw i will be subbing and looking forward to watching pt 2. Gen 3 is my favorite ever
love the freezai shout out yall are literally my 2 favorite poketubers
Great video!
Illumise's Illustrious Iceberg seems like a smash hit. Can't wait for part 2.
Great topic, I knew most of these because of you and others gen 3 enthusiasts

I can conclude I belong to the third layer. Looking forward to the next episode to learn more about my favourite gen's competitive scene
Awesome Video! 🤠
great video, really enjoyed it
I like of like how attacking moves work in gen 3.
Especially for nuzlocks.
It makes these kinds of challenges like a fun puzzle.
This guy Jimothy is pretty cool
I love you doing "iceberg" content.
i came into GEN 3 OU blind so seeing these niche picks finally makes sense to me 💀
What I want to know about the physical special split is why they decided to make ghost a physical type but only have three ghost types that are all special attackers in Gen 1. And why they made two ghost moves of lick and night shade
Quick Claw was so quick you couldn't see it coming. You could get jumpscared by an exploding Steelix.

Jim is truly out standing in his iceberg.
That Gengar EV spread is an absolute thing of beauty. I love the gen 3 spreads. It is one of my favorite things about the gen. Shout out bulky dug
