I hope Ricardo doesn't get spam calls.
I think his full number was on the whiteboard.🫢
Wait, no quiz? Ok, so I make one up. Replace the washer and dryer with a single unit that does both, wash and dry! Then, you will have your two! 🤗
@@FLGurl Never going to work. You need two washers and driers if possible.
man those 70s style round vent louvers are really rad
so what was the ship you got offered a job to captain but you turned down because you didn't like the manufacturer?
I love how the ship isn't your standard super yacht. It has so much personality.
My kind of boat. No flim-flam and poncing around, just a well thought-out seaboat.
💯
@SuperYachtCaptain If you have only 4 crew, who cleans the boat out of those 4. Presumably captain doesn't clean and engineer only does the machinery spaces. So that's a lot for the steward, unless the chef helps out?
@@PreservationEnthusiast I've run 90footers with just 2. You just have to be organised and flexible. The owners helped out with watches if necessary.
I am impressed with these crew spaces, especially that laundry room. Love that the engineer has that space by the bridge, instead of stuffed below decks in the engine room. Private being not leased I assume. I imagine the stress levels are lower not having to cater to unknown guests all the time. I glad to see you afloat again. I love your perspective and how you share your knowledge.
Thanks Tristan for the look around. Great seeing you in a captain's roll again.
This is a boater's boat! I absolutely love it. Your pride and passion for all things boating is infectious. These detailed walk-throughs are great, looking forward to the next one.
Would love to hear what each crew's role is on a yacht of this size
I bet nobody’s bored doing just one repetitive job all the time! This looks like an ideal situation for a reasonably energetic crew.
This vessel deserves high respect for beauty and function. Most importantly, she was built rock solid and has safely transported souls on journeys others wouldn’t venture.
In a recent video, you referred us to MY Loon. I watched one of her videos, and was surprised at the wide pillars between her wheelhouse windows, which significantly restrict the watchkeepers' visibility. The pillars would not have been a problem in the days when the only seat in the wheelhouse (of merchant ships and warships) was the Captain's chair, reserved solely for his use. Watchkeepers stood throughout their watches, and by standing close to one or other of the windows, they achieved unrestricted forward visibility. Because they were on their feet, they would tend to move around, facilitating the all-round lookout that is required. Indeed, OOWs were taught as cadets to move around to achieve this, particularly when masts, derricks, cranes and other parts of the ship's structure obstructed visibility, especially astern.
The problem is exacerbated when watchkeepers are seated. The obstructions caused by the pillars between bridge windows mean that another vessel closing on a steady bearing (i.e. collision course) can be hidden from a stationary watchkeeper by one of these pillars until it is very close. It seems that yacht designers are oblivious to this danger. Radar has improved, but is still no substitute for looking out of the window: Collision Regulations still require a proper lookout to be kept by sight.
Love it when Tristan opened the cupboard full of tea towels. You could tell he genuinely didn't know what was in there until he opened it.
Thank you. Your one section at a time is working great for me. Looking forward to the next.
This was very informative, thanks for these type of videos. One thing that struck me is that you mentioned there's only 4 of you crewing the boat. It seems like such a small number based on all the tasks and jobs I would imagine you all have to do every day and how jobs and workloads are shared. Could you please do a future video where you break down crew allocation per vessel and how crew numbers are determined, based on size of the ship or whatever other criteria.
💯
I’m hoping to do a live stream this Sunday to answer all these sort of questions.
Remember its an owner boat not charter so less demanding I would expect.
As a 62 yr old female, this was very interesting! Probably many comments otherwise came from men who wouldn’t know an iron from a soda maker!
I actually find this yacht to be more fascinating than AWOL....some may not agree with me...but I love the look of this yacht. This one has a real ship look to it with class....
I found AWOL to be more of a floating boutique hotel/pleasure palace.
This is a "real" seagoing motor yacht built for adventurous people who love the sea in all her moods, and want to travel to the farthest corners of the globe.
She is a marvellous yacht built for real seafarers.
In my opinion Tristan has graduated to the big leagues by taking this command.
@@lapsedluddite3381 agreed
it's good to see you happy and excited again.
You are a captain. With such an eye for details and putting function over design speaks volumes. I love it how you approach things. Continue please i have fun a longs side you
Being a long term follower, he has had a very successful career in the Charter yacht business and was duly recognized for that effort. However, I am sure that is a very demanding business keeping the guests happy and pleased enough that they want to be a repeat client. The statement "follow the people, not the boat" speaks volumes to me. I am sure that this is a well-educated decision and can't wait to see what the future brings!!
Why does this sound like an AI wrote it...
Trust me, I am not that talented!!! Just respectful of his long-term vlog effort!!
@@charlescoghlan2855 I agree with you. I’m sensing some comments are coming from people who got up on the wrong side of bed! If it’s not nice, keep your thoughts to yourself…
A proper little ship.
Like the galley layout. Everything seems to be within a few steps to get. The refrigerator doors seals may need cleaning or service. There should not be condensation around the door edges. That is lost energy. Enjoying the videos welcome back.
Nice boat. Kind of fun watching this and Loon at the same time.
It is. Both beautiful and much appreciated.
So great to see you back on board of a yacht and that happy!
The only gadget I love more than my laminating machine is my label maker 😍
I'm loving this for you, and happy to follow along once more
teasing me with engine room at the end of reveal . as a life long engineer and generator specialist . show me the generators , great to have you back . Cheers Ade
Interesting , Thank You .A fine tour . looks well designed , usable and Seaworthy
We need a great adeventure! South pole visit, Iceland etc!
This video is SO excellent!! Wow. Love it. What an excellently designed boat... thanks for posting like this.
Thanks for the tour and looking forward to the next.
Good to have you back Tristan doing what gives you passion. Can share where & what Giv is doing these days? Thanks🙏🇨🇦👍
I love this boat. Very cool! I’m excited to see where you take her!
Like the classic woodwork. Gives it a real explorer yacht feel.
Two things stood out in this video.
There is a lot of condensation on the refrigerator and freezer doors. Leaky seals?
Not all lights where working on the stairs.
Agreed, I’m not happy with the insulation on the fridges. I noticed that as soon as I got onboard. This is certainly on our work list.
@@SuperYachtCaptain Mold and bacteria love it.
Lights on the stairs are not fixable?
Nicely done,,great private yacht,,enjoy your time..😊thanks for sharing.😊
An empty beer-can in the Fridge! You have to talk to your Crew!🤣🤣🤣
Very impressed by the laundry area. I've seen many tours of bigger yachts where laundry machines were jammed directly in the crew mess so you would hear them and smell them whenever you sat at the crew mess table. Although Espiritu Santo has a big amount of storage space for its size, it was clear in your tour that virtually every storage locker in the galley and laundry area were jammed full. So storage space is pretty much maxxed out. I think the precautions for offshore conditions in the galley and elsewhere were superb. I often wonder how well some "expedition" yachts with huge open salon areas and elaborate dining areas work out in rough conditions . Not enough handholds.
Not a bad laundry room at all. My laundry was in the engine room on my first boat. 😢
Using every spare inch of space efficiently. Well built
Another great video Tristan. Been a subscriber for years and its great to see you back onboard another yacht, particularly with this one being very different to AWOL. Looking forward to the engine room tour, and meeting the rest of the crew.
Excellent Video! You did it again! Thank you for sharing. Let the boss know we appreciate him allowing you to make the videos on his boat?!
What a lovely yacht! Love the laundry too.
Great episode! Thanks for sharing, Tristan! Stay safe and keep rolling to crew and passengers! 👍👍
I'm enjoying these videos and love this boat.
Lovely vessel, congrats, a real ocean going boat.
I really like this yacht - it suits you.
That looks like a great vessel Tristan. Crew mess, galley and laundry are good, plenty of booze aboard. Plenty of storage too
Thanks for a great video, yet again.
Love the video! Thanks
Which do you prefer, being captain of a private yacht or a charter yacht, i would imagine there are a lot of differences? Love the new series, more informative, gets into the nitty gritty of the ship.
"It's not the size that matters, it's how you use it." I've seen much, much larger yachts that are poorly set up, while this looks to be well thought out. As I said on a tiny house video: anyone can design a 300 square meter house, but a 30 square meter home requires more thought and, specifically, dedication. Looking forward to the next video!
Tristan I have been following you since you took command of AWOL and has been enjoying you videos and nice narrative since the beginning. As I’m residing on the lake of Geneva I might come down and have a beer. I’m a retired officer in the reserve of the royal swedish navy, mine sweeping. Anyway I enjoy your work!
I get the sense that the owner is an adventurer and explorer. I'm expecting one video to feature the submarine!
Love it!👌🏻😃
Brilliant 👏👍✌️
i realy like the yatch design, imagine owning thaat :o
She's a beautiful yacht ❤❤❤
Starlink is the bomb! Luv Luv Luv it... Got it on my boat!
The galley and the laundry are fine! The wine store is large enough to be useful.
Nice little boat!
Love this boat. How about a video explaining what the 4 crew members duties are.
We know what you look like; record the boat. :) :) Love your videos.
Your comment about the limited washer/dryer capacity caught my attention. One washer and dryer for up to 12 people inadequate? US nuclear submarines have one washer and one dryer for 140 crew members.
Must be a fast attack boat, on the Sam Houston we had two washers and dryers. 1967 to 1970.
good video
Great to see you onboarad again Tristan. Nice video about the boat. A question about the galley? I inly saw a microwave oven, no other oven? Looking foward to more videos. Maybe some crew interviews.
That feels like it might be very tight for the crew. What kind of schedule do you work. I presume she isn't home ported near your private residence, so there must be a lot of away time. The life of a sailor has never been easy I guess. Thanks for taking us along.
Just a few things i notice Tristan one you may want to blur out phone numbers you never know whos going to call Ricardo and the worse i notice a unsecured beer in the frig i can secure that for you 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 be no trouble at all
The boat looks fantastic. So way did you get back in to captain a vessel
7:53 Twinnings English Breakfast - yup, You have only best supplies
Just read through all the comments - and understand that all will be answered on Sunday - but hope there is "room" for your wife on your boat.
One thing I would love to learn about is the things taken for granted. Like the engine room is cool and I want to see, but what about fresh, gray, and black water systems? If the range is 4500 nautical miles, what about those things that you may need in week 4 being away from port?
These are amazing machines but how well do they travel.
Tristan, any idea what type of wood is that down below?
Looks like African Mahogany.
Fair winds and following seas.
That Grant's scotch whiskey. I would have expected to see top shelf on that vessel...
When one has reached a certain level in life, one feels free to indulge one's own taste, irregardless of label or what's in fashion.
True wealth is liberating, that is obviously the preferred whiskey of someone on board.
You might want to check the seal on the fridge.
With only 4 crew how are the roles/responsibilities split? You have a Captain, Engineer, Chef and then the 4th person is deckhand/stew? or chef and engineer are also deckhands?
I’m excited for you. I think being a captain is your calling. Curious if you’re solo or is your wife contracted to be onboard as well. Your both awesome 😎
Don't they have children now?
@@lapsedluddite3381 yes they have a son and she is actually staying behind to run the their company 👍
@1:02 no Gibernator :( Nice tour though!
The wine is right next to the washer? Hope it doesn't get warm with every laundry cycle, it won't be too good. I used to keep wine in a cabinet next to a dishwasher. Brought some friends were over and we opened a bottle, it was terrible. Thought that was weird, tried another one, just as bad. After going through about 10 bottles we concluded the 'dishwasher stock' had a unique taste no matter the brand! lol
Wine needs to be stored below 60°F, warmer than that greatly increases the risk of corking. (Your wine was corked)
I'm starting to like this boat. What is the difference in gross tonnage to AWOL?
This is 210GT, AWOL is 308GT
👍
You did mention a couple of times that the yacht was not used for charter. On average, how many days per year would the owner and guests be on board? In which areas? Med/Caribbean? Enjoy the experience.
Are we going to ever get to meet the crew?
Why does it roll so much? I note that in your videos? Doesn't it have stabilizers?
I think this boat soon is for sale,Tristan and the owner are designing a new bigger one.... soon to be reveled... 😉
Does the boat have its own dedicated chef? Or does one of the crew pull double duty on the cooking?
He did mention the chef when he pointed out the menu list she had left for them.
She really does roll at anchor 😢
Did you manage to rendezvous with Capt Paul from Loon? I see they were recently in Napoli.
Hello
Capt. Tristan , pls show the correct way to dump the rubbish / food waste at sea ?
We don’t dump rubbish at sea! We always dispose our waste when we come into port.
@9:13 I see the owner (or someone) is a Grant's man. 🥃
What a simple boat.😅
Have you got a meet the crew video planned I hope
I hope so, I need to warm up the crew to the idea
@@SuperYachtCaptain tell if they don’t agree they will will be keel hauled lol
Is the wine storage area down below always kept at 18C max?
Ideally it should be at 14° C or a bit lower for long term storage, quess they just have to consume it quickly!☺️🍷🥂
and Ricardo is changing his number
🥴🤭
Hey skipper, I am really interested to know how you make 4 crew work. I am looking at buying a 27 metre yacht for charter, but having worked for years on bigger boats, if you have 8-10 guests in 4/5 cabins, you need a Captain/Engineer (in your case you are separate) chef, deck hand(s) interior crew etc. With hours of rest etc (a complete fiction in my experience) how can 4 crew take care of 10 guests and the boat is immaculate as they always are? Do you still have your charter and management company?
It’s not a charter boat…
Are four crew enough when you have a charter? Do you hire a chef when you out on charter? Who tends to the needs of the guests?
He says in the videos that this is a private yacht not for charter.
Is there scope for a "meet the owner" vlog?
Tristan, is this now your new boat?
Very interesting video.
I'm just wondering, a crew of four big enough? That's a lot of work.
I think the main difference is the usage of the boat. AWOL was a charter boat, and this one is in private use. Crew requiremants are very different.
We do need a 5th, we actually have a 5th crew joining for 1 month at the end of July.
What kind of charters would this ship be used for? Would this be used more for scientific expeditions or for leisure cruises?
He has said that this is a private, not for charter yacht.
@@lapsedluddite3381how does it make money?
When are you back at sea ?
nice tour - but I think Ricardo might get upset with you for showing his phone number
I'm curious why you're back at the captains helm. I thought you retired from this line of work when you left awol.
