  • How long did it take for Eevee to know to poop and pee on the pee pad? Honestly, 4 weeks! This was all due to consistency and other factors. Hope this video helps! Eevee is currently 9 months! She still knows all her commands and she looks different! I had her for 7 months!! Wow has time flew

    This is the way I recently potty trained my Chihuahua. I litter trained it, as opposed to letting it go outside, and it was by far the easiest and the best method I have ever used.
    So what I did was purchase a 24 X 18 wire doggy crate and put a doggy bed, a doggy blanket, and some doggy toys inside it.
    At the same time, I also purchased a 24 X 18 solid plastic container with high sides that I customized into my new doggy litter box by using a hack saw to cut out an opening on one side of the container large enough so a Chihuahua can enter and exit it easily. Then I added an inch layer of pine pellets to the floor as the litter material.
    Next, with the Chihuahua puppy inside the doggy crate I butted the doggy crate opening to the doggy litter box opening. As the idea was that the Chihuahua puppy would sleep and play in the doggy crate but when it needed to eliminate, it would eliminate in the doggy litter box. Guess what, it worked like a charm.
    So for the first three weeks, I kept this up only letting the Chihuahua puppy out to bond and play after I saw that it had very recently eliminated.
    Then after three weeks, I slid the doggy litter box out about a foot and a half away from the doggy crate. Then I monitored my new puppy closely throughout the day to see if she was using the doggy litter box like she was supposed to, and she did flawlessly.
    Then subsequently, I slid the doggy litter box on each successive day a little closer and closer to the final designated location for the doggy litter box I had previously picked out. When the litter box was in its final designated location, I then considered my new puppy fully potty trained.
    In any event, this was not only by far the easiest time I ever had potty training a Chihuahua puppy, but it was the first time I ever trained a Chihuahua puppy without having any puppy mistakes.
    Moreover, a litter box, as far as I'm concerned, is not only the easiest way to train your pet because your pet essentially trains itself, but overall it's the best solution as well. As I don't have to worry about maintaining a set schedule to let my puppy out. I don't have to worry about whether it is snowing or raining outside or if it is freezing or too hot. I also don't have to worry about leaving the puppy alone for an extended time period. I also don't have to worry about fleas, ticks, mosquitos, or my dog getting a disease another dog left behind. I also don't have to worry about other dogs attacking tiny Chihuahua since she always remains inside the home.
    As far as the litter material goes, I highly recommend pine pellets because it virtually eliminates all odors and it is quite easy to work with. It's also far cheaper than other kinds of litter materials and does a far better job at eliminating odors. As you can buy a 40 pound bag of the stuff at Tractor Supply Company for $6.79 plus tax and you will use only about two to maybe three bags a year. Meanwhile, when a dog or cat urinates on the pellets, the pellets disintegrate into odorless saw dust.
    To make cleaning my doggy litter box easy, I purchased a sifting cat litter box as a cleaning aid only. So what I do to clean the litter box since I always flush down the toilet any solids as soon as I see them, is empty the doggy litter box in the sifter of the cat litter box. Then I sift the sawdust in the sifter into the cat litter box below. When all that remains in the sifter is pine pellets, I then empty the sifter back into my doggy litter box and then add about a scoop to a scoop and a half of pine pellets to make up for what was used. Then I empty the sawdust in the cat litter box from below the sifter into the trash since it is odorless. Lastly, I wipe everything down and put everything up until the next time. As I clean my doggy litter box out about once a week.
    By the way, pee pads are not only very expensive, but they are also very disgusting.

    • @bullfrog5037

    Very well done. To make it even easier, Eevee is ready for a kitty littler box. I trained my Yorkie on a pee pad until she was one month, then I introduced her to a kitty litter box (without the top). Whew! Clumping kitty litter is so much cleaner. Mine did her business, I scooped up the pee or poop, and her litter box was clean and ready to go. I kept a plastic container with a lid, lined with a plastic bag, to put her pee 'sand castles' and poop in beside the litter box. Being a small dog, it takes a while before a box of kitty litter gets used up. I definitely would keep her litter box clean so she wasn't discouraged to go in for the next time. Less expensive than using pee pads for sure. She knew this was her potty, so as soon as she went, I had her potty treats ready to give her. I used Arm and Hammer SLIDE so I rarely had to clean the litter box because it absorbed so quickly. Hardly any dust with this brand--the cheaper clumping litter is dusty and I think harmful to their airways after time. Mine was 14 yrs 3 mos before she passed last February. Lived a happy, long life. I brushed her teeth everynite at bedtime. She never lost one tooth or saw a doggie dentist all her life. I sure miss her. Very smart, like Eevee and you can just constantly train them. Mine was my furry kid. Velcro dog too--she went everywhere I went, including potty, so I had her potty in my bathroom. When I went, she went (lol) and she went on her own to her potty as needed. I miss her. 🐶🌹

      Raechale Bennett, i shall try cat litter for my yorkie. This seems ike a good advice. The training pafs i got from petsathome are good quality as my yorkie cannot shred or chew it off, but like to move them around, so she can do her poo on the floor boards. Pee sometimes on the training pads or floor board or small carpet area after removing the pads sometime before. I always try to cover up as much floor area as possible with training pads or cardboard. She likes to tear the cardboard as well. Shevis very clever, so training her in other aspects is easy. In 2 weeks, she knows sit, lie down, wait for food, stay, fetch, walk alongside me, weave around objects or my legs, turn about 2 to 4 times. Potty, she is rebellious about because she cannot see the treat before she does it. She dies pee mostly on the training pads. She gets rewarded for this with treats and a lot of praise and shecis skipping and happy. But poo she never does in the right place, even though 90%of the fllor spacw is covered bt by training pads and cardboard.

      @@vibhaspalding6457 Very good! How old is your Yorkie? The quicker you get her into a system, the better your life becomes too. The older they get, the more set in their ways, so TREATS are very important. Keep her treats close to her potty where she can see the container, but cannot open it herself. Mine freaked out the first time she stood on kitty litter, after being on a puppy pad. That was funny, but I had already put her pee smell and poo smell into the kitty litter (just rub a little bit on the surface of get them started. No need to do it again once they begin to use the litter, as they're potty smell will now be there. The other thing I had to do was call her to do her business into the litter box on my command. Not just when she was ready. This way you are making the decision for her to go on command and where to go potty if she want a treat afterward. And when she came and did her business, I immediately gave her a treat, and if she did both, she got two treats--yes she could count and knew another treat was coming! One for peepee, one for poopee. This came in handy when I needed her to do her potty before I went out, before bed, or when traveling, etc. If you catch her pooping somewhere else, immediately put her into the litter box, where she can finish, and then praise her and give her her treat. Also, if you find she pooped somewhere else when you weren't looking, pick it up and put it in the litter box, so she can see it belongs there and only there. Yorkies are very smart. Show her it's there and repeat a few times that is where poopee goes to be a good girl for treaties. She'll catch on. I just loved the kitty litter because it kept her feet clean. With the pads on the floor, they walk over areas of where they pee'd already. Too expensive to throw out after they only pee once, right? So clumping kittly litter works best. Do remove anything after she does her potty so that it is always clean and she will appreciate that. The smell that she had used the potty remains and she knows that's where she should go. Does that make sense to you? The treats are ery important. A little patience is needed until she established in the litter box. It shouldn't take long though, less than a day or three. And the cool thing is when we went to friends, or in hotels, her potty comes too. Let her know where you put it, put her treats beside it, and she will not mess in friends homes, in hotels, etc.

Now recently he’s been peeing all over the house and doesn’t go on his own anymore like he used to. I reward him whenever he goes on the pee pad and when he pees on the floor I say the “no” command, and place him in the crate. But I don’t see any progress 😩 Any further advice???

    • @_jasminedy
      @_jasminedy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Madonna, Thank you for tuning in. So there can be many reasons he is peeing all over the home now that he is getting older. (Marking his territory) If you feel like that is the case, limit the amount of access to the home.Don;t allow him to be everywhere in the house if you are in a single family. If you are in an apartment and close extra bedroom doors so you can watch him closely to catch any slip ups. Also, try to take him outside more often and reward him when he pees outside. And when he pees on the potty pad reward him. Sometimes you just have to troubleshoot your puppy like a computer. haha! I hope that helps!

    Thanks a lot for sharing! I’ve been training my 4months yorkie for two months. He still doesn’t know go to pee by himself, and I have to lead him to the pee pad every time. And sometimes when he can’t hold it anymore he’ll just pee wherever even in his bed. I’m soooo close to kill myself...

      Hi I understand your predicament. My 100% yorkie is 11 weeks old. I got her 2 weeks ago without any training by the breeder, who vaccinated her aday before i collected her. This means my yorkie cannot have 2nd vaccination for 4 weeks, when she is 13 weeks, tgen further 2 weeks later she can go out or step out her feet. Until then we have confined her in our lounge with floorboards. Breeder has told me that she does not allow her dogs, mum and dad on the carpet, as removing poo and pee smell cannot be removed from carpets. So she kepts the pups in the lounge, while her adult dogs out in the garden all the time. I am training my puppy since i got her at 9 weeks. She has learnt sit, lie down, wait for food, stay without food, weave around my legs or objects, fetch (does not always work as toys belong to her, so fetch concept is totally alien to her), walk alongside me and wait with and without lead, some other tricks. She lets me clean her teeth, brush her hair anf bathe her. Just potty training is simething she does not undetstand. She oten peescin the right place and gets treats and a lot of praise. Butvpoo iscalways on floorboard, whereever she finds sufficient gap between the crate, play pen, training pads and cardboard. 90%of floor os covered. She will do in thec10% of the floorboards. If there is no spacecshe will remove the training pads, fold it up and she will dp there. With potty training, shevos behaving like a mis behaved teenager. A firm no, she understands, when she chews or does pee and poo on the wrong places but ahw forgets and carry on doung it. Other tricks she has no problem with. She likes to ways be moving. In her sleep, she will change position every few minutes. Akways half asleep. She will get up on hearing me go out. Very attention seeker, and good with most tricks, except potty training. Has stopped her and she will quickly run elsewhere to do her business. Once behind the settee on the floorboards. She found our socks from behind rhe settee. Shecis mostly a delight, though very hard work. Potty training is very unpredictable for her, as ahe does thid unexpectedly. They say when they get up, 15 to 20mins after food intake. This is not the case. Though wecfeed her at set times, her toilet schedule is erratic. She has expected food available at all times, butvshe getscot 4 times a day. Vet tells me that this is correct. Breeder leaving rhe food all the time is not a good idea. She was constipated early on, but now she goes about 2 to 3 times a day, which is an improvement. None of training videos havevhelped as she likes to do in different areas. Soiled training pad is of no intetest to her.

    I have had my puppy since he was 8 weeks. He is now 13 weeks and he is SO stubborn. I will put him on the pad and he will sit there because he knows I will put him back on the pad. Now he will sit there and even lay down on the pad but will not go. What do you suggest??
    Also, do you put a pad in the crate with you dog when you leave or at night?? This is the only time he uses the pad bc he does not want to pee in his bed. I desperately need help! You are so right when you say PATIENCE is key! My puppy is SO stubborn and ADORABLE!! Please help! I am all ears!!

      I put a training pad in the crate and bed on one side of the crate fir my yorkie. She does her pee there. Very occasionally poo as well. Mostly she will do her poo after getting out of the crate, but most unpredictable time, nothing like any training videos.

      @@vibhaspalding6457 My yorkie does the exact same! He will urinate in the crate with the pad but wait to defecate until he is out. He just lays on the pad or sits there. I've waited 30-45 mins before. Then he left the pad, only to defecate elsewhere.

      My yorkie is now 11 weeks and clever. Thinks of things, which we would not dream off, ie how to jump over a settee to get inti the next room. We are always trying to find newcways in the last 2vweeks, we have had her. She has teared the entrance to the play pen so she can get out if we confine her there at night. We have tried to ler her sleep in the room on floorboard, she likes but that has been with pee and poo next morning. So crate she goes into now. She is trying hard to cut the crate now but it is very strong.

    New yorkie owner here?? What do you do at night? My apologies if I missed it but do you wake up in the middle of the night with your puppy every night to let her pee?

    • @kaftansnob23
      @kaftansnob23 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, bc they can't hold their bladders/bowels for long, you have to take them to potty every 2-3 hours around the clock. Even at night. If not, they will go in their crate/bed. I set my alarm throughout the night in the beginning. Now, he lets me know when he has to go by barking and jumping on the side of the crate.

    • @kaftansnob23
      @kaftansnob23 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, stop their food and drinking at least 3 hours before bedtime.

    • @vibhaspalding6457
      @vibhaspalding6457 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kaftansnob23 all Yorkies and fogs are different. Mine does it at unpredictable times. She does pee in the crate on the trainibg pads but hardly does poo. She waits to get out of the crate. I stay her on the training pads for 20 mins, but she gets restless. I give her breakfast, play for 20 mins. Again pads, she will not do it there. She will wait until she is on the floorboard to do her poo. I feel this is because she is only 11 weeks old and not been trained at all by the breeder. So training her to potty in right place is a challenge for me. She learns so many other tricks easily as she sees treats in my hand.
