    Update on Ace - I have gotten him involved in playing some of the games th-cam.com/users/postUgkx1_veP7CApJK_GWy_TczaMciuG64PqJeU and I can see a difference in his confidence already! My other dog played along and he became intrigued - now its a daily part of our routine - about 3 times a day we do the shell game and the muffin tin game. I am so grateful for coming upon your training techniques!

    I dont know who this will help but something that really help me was when ur dog or puppy is going potty either #1 or #2 tell them, "go potty, go potty". I started to do that when he went to the bathroom and he started to understand exactly what I meant. And started to go on command!😊 I hope this helps someone.

    1. Feed dogs at same times everyday to learn their natural schedule
    2. Reward them as they are completing their business (not after they finish) Can keep treat jar by back door
    3. Give them a few minutes to sniff around after they go potty. Puppy bladders take 6-9 months to fully develop.
    4. Take them out every 45 min - 1 hour for young puppies and 1-3 hours four 14 weeks+
    5. Nighttime potty runs - no cuddles or talking, give “YES” command and put them back in crate. They probably will cry at first.
    6. Make sure the crate is large enough for them to stand/turn around and small enough they won’t want to go to the bathroom in their crate
    7. Never punish for going potty inside, if they do pick them up and bring them outside. Reward them for finishing their business outside.
    8. Signals! Sniffing, going to the same spot they’ve had an accident at in the past, going in circles, change in behavior (butt scooch), after food and drink, after play, after naps

    I am now 53 years old. When I was approximately 9/10 years old, I was in Girl Scouts. We were trying to earn a badge and someone came to speak to us about potty training puppies. They gave us a booklet about puppies and dogs. What the booklet suggested was, when the dog urinates, take a paper towel or towel, get up the urine, take the soiled towel to a spot, chosen by you and put it down. Put a rock or something on the towel so that it doesn't blow away. Everytime the pup goes out, take he/she to the same spot where the towel is, rain shine, sleet or snow. They can still smell their scent and tell the pup "potty." I would set my pup down on top of the towel to be sure they smelled the urine. If the pup walks away, it's okay, just don't let them go to far away from the towel. If they start to walk away. Pick them up, take back to the towel and say "potty" again. It will take a few times for the puppy to catch on but if you are consistent, you will see progress sooner rather than later. Be sure to observe the pup so that when they void, give plenty of praise. They may have a couple of accidents. If they do, do not scold x just say no, pick the pup up, take to spot and say "potty." The most important thing is to be consistent. If you are not, the training will not work and it is your fault, not the puppy's. I have used this method for every puppy/dog(if not potty trained) and this has always worked. No matter the method, if you are not consistent, it will not work. Pets only know what you teach them. I often get asked how does my dog know what to do and where to go when I say "(go potty)." This is after the training is complete, how my dog knows what to do and again I explain my method and stress the importance of consistency. I have never used any other method other than this. Thank you Girl Scouts and I earned my badge.

      Same, all my pups were trained the same way, to transfer their toilet scent where you need them to pee, definitely fool proof and I don’t see a lot of trainers using this method for some reason and make it more complex than it should be.

    I just cannot thank you enough for your puppy potty training help! My shih tzu was 9 weeks when we brought him home. I was warned that it would take 4 to 5 months by other puppy owners especially for tiny dogs. With your help, I saw success after 8 days and he was pretty much there. His progressive journey has been absolutely amazing! He is 15 weeks old but today is special because we took video of him after he signaled us by sitting at our back door! It wasn't his first time, but today we got a picture and video! I totally wish you could see it! Anyway! Thanks be to you doll! I am fit to be tied excited!

Today we took the cutest video of him after sitting by the door to tell us he had to go. The first time he sat by the door was maybe at 14 weeks, but he has other cues like the sniffing for a spot, jumping on the bells in his playpen area, circling on our lap to get down, etc. I also binged on her videos. Love me some her!

      this isn't meant to attack Rachel. But in the interest of fairness, she did used to be against indoor potty training. Her advice for apartment dwellers was to take the dog outside every hour or so. Then ... she moved into an apartment and realized why that was completely impractical and started advocating the grass patch.

    • @nickieisknittingtoomuch
      @nickieisknittingtoomuch 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@methosimortal I'm not sure why you felt the need to comment this, if not to pass judgement, but I'm not interested in her past views. People grow and change. I thank her for her thoughts now not something in the past.

    • @methosimortal
      @methosimortal 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@nickieisknittingtoomuch well I felt the need to pass it on because most advice you're going to find online will tell you to take the dog outside every one to two hours, even if you live in an apartment. And it's important to note that she changed her mind once she lived in an apartment herself because that tells potential dog owners a lot about the experiences of the people who are giving advice in the first place (i.e. maybe some of them never lived in an apartment before for example). In addition to that, I'm not divulging some sort of secret information. those videos are still up on her channel and as such I find it perfectly acceptable to bring them up without being accused of having judgmental intentions.

    I feel very positive after watching and hearing you. I have a 4 month old puppy and I am very glad I've been doing many of the things you are suggesting, even when I didn't knew it was proven, it has been only what I learned observing and raising the puppies I had while back some years.
    Of course I fail on many things too, for example the punishing and also letting him see me strongly mad about it. But now I am more sure I am on the good road 😅. He is using the training pads 90 persent of the times and usually only fails at morning whe we over sleep or the cat wakes him up before us.
    And, he has started to chose outside over inside since he recovered from a little digestive infection.
    So, now I know how to do a better job, and also have the tool to share with my husband so we can really be a team. Now I am working on reducing the area and the number of spots I put pads on, trying to guide him to the entry of the house 😬. Wish me luck. My puppy is a cocker spaniel and his name is coffee 😊.

    I’m so happy to hear that you had the same issue with multiple potty breaks within minutes. I, too, thought something was wrong with my puppy. Happy to report that he’s sleeping about 7 hours through the night and he rings the bell to let us know he has to go. Inside accidents have decreased significantly. Thank you for your videos. They are very helpful!

    • @ninivengl
      @ninivengl ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi. Question. When you say he rings a bell, are you speaking figuratively or literally?? 😅😅😅 And if is the second one, how did you teach him?? 😬

    • @yvettefulton4016
      @yvettefulton4016 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@ninivengl We trained him to actually ring a bell that we hung from the door we went out of to take him to the bathroom. He had to ring it with his paw before we would take him. Once he was fully trained he would ring the bell to let us know when he had to go. It’s great!

    • @Hmmm3656
      @Hmmm3656 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@yvettefulton4016Genius idea. I'm going to try that. If he went potty inside, would you ring the bell and then bring him out?

    • @yvettefulton4016
      @yvettefulton4016 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @ninivengl we hung what look like jingle bells by the door we took him out of to go. He would hit the bells with his nose. We trained him by making him ring it every time we took him out. Eventually it became habit and he would sit and wait for us. If we took too long he would ring it again 😊.

    • @yvettefulton4016
      @yvettefulton4016 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @Michelle M_ we didn’t. It that’s a good idea so they can connect the two. We took him out every 1.5-2 hours in the early puppy days and made him ring the bell before we took him out until he start ringing the bell in his own. Good luck!

    I just adopted a wonderful 4 yo min pin rescue (who had been starved and abused). She has never had a #1 accident in the house, but always waits to do #2 when we get back in the house and I’m not watching. I am immediately going to start employing your tips . She is a very smart girl so I hope we will get over this hurdle quickly. Thanks so much!

      Any tips would be very appreciated.

    • @turtleandjava
      @turtleandjava 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@juliemccormack122 Our golden doodle puppies learned immediately but I’m not sure everyone will be as lucky just because we have another dog that knows commands really well. Just try and teach them both in different rooms or even try it in the same room. I don’t have much tips but if you have an upstairs have them sleep downstairs so you don’t have to carry them both downstairs. Make sure to take them both out right after they eat and don’t be afraid to let them explore. (Just make sure your backyard is safe, otherwise get a play pen) It’s not as difficult as you’d think just make sure to do research on training.
