  • We're using agar agar, oil, and sports drinks to make beautiful spheres of jelly that look like Orbeez, but are EDIBLE. 😮 This science experiment is SO satisfying and easy, and promises to be a good tasty time. New videos every Thursday and Saturday!

    1 1/2 C. sports drink
    6 grams Telephone brand agar-agar
    In a saucepan add the sports drink and sprinkle in the agar. Whisk to blend and bring the mixture to a boil. Cool slightly and drip into cold vegetable oil. Using a sieve, strain the spheres from the oil and rise the spheres with warm water. Marvel and eat!

    On the oil freezing; oil and fat are both lipids and are only different by definition in that fats are solid at room temp and oils are still liquid. At sufficiently low temps both are solid. Fun project!

    i attempted to make this today and i did a few mistakes. here’s my advice so you can avoid them:
    1) make the oil as cold as possible. if you dont the droplets will not form. they will pop and bleed into each other
    2) dont skimp out on the oil. the more oil you have the longer the drop will have to travel which will give it more time to form.
    3) drop it in slowly. you dont want to disturb the other orbs
    im going to try this again 👌🏼

    Wondering, make up a bunch of different flavors. Then get some vanilla ice cream, let it soften. Add in the flavored pearls, then refreeze the ice cream. Would it still be tasty. A&W root beer would be an interesting flavor since it’s also not carbonated (unless you buy it in cans).

    I find those electrolyte drinks to be very salty (and yes, I know they contain salts to replenish what you sweat out after working out or working hard), don't like them, but I do like Mountain Dew, at least the UK version that is (slightly altered recipe, and no Sodium Benzoate)... :)

    • @SpeedDemonStar
      @SpeedDemonStar 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you are low on electrolytes, the drinks taste sweet, but if you don't need the extra electrolytes, than they will taste salty. Try it some time after a long run or something like that, and you might find that you like the taste when you actually need what it's for vs just using it as a beverage. Perhaps even try tasting some of the same flavor before and after some hard work or exercise to see for yourself.

    High Fructose Corn Syrup is not natural. It was developed in the U.S., in a laboratory, as a cheap alternative to sugar. The molecules are so large the human body has difficulty digesting it. It is in everything sweet in our food products here. This is why the Obesity rate has steadily climbed since it's development in the 1960's.

I can't tolerate those kinds of drinks (can't have carbonated anything, and those vitamin waters are sickeningly sweet to me, so I can't drink them).
