    3:10 Setting your password.
    3:55 Setting the time server.
    4:21 Setting the IP address.
8:41 How to set up your Volumes and Storage pools on a QNAP NAS.
    QTS
QTS 4.4.1 integrates Linux Kernel 4.14 LTS, adding support for next-generation CPU platforms and providing a more stable and future-proof operating environment for QNAP NAS. HBS 3 - the integrated backup solution for QNAP NAS - also celebrates over a million downloads by adding the ability to deduplicate data at the source to optimize backup speed and storage requirements. The innovative HybridMount also deliver a whole-new hybrid cloud experience.
Common Fibre Channel SAN (Storage Area Networks) are closed network environments, and their devices are often expensive while lacking deployment flexibility. QTS 4.4.1 adds support for Fibre Channel on QNAP NAS. By using a QNAP NAS with Fibre Channel connectivity, your NAS can be easily added to your existing SAN environment at an affordable price point. This allows you to leverage the many benefits from QNAP NAS including snapshot protection, Qtier™ tiering storage, SSD cache acceleration and more.
Transform your SAN environment with a budget-friendly solution
Replacing Fibre Channel SAN environments can be expensive and time-consuming. But when using a Fibre-Channel-ready QNAP NAS, your existing SAN environment can gain budget-friendly storage or backup solution. Not only is a QNAP NAS more affordable than typical SAN devices, but it also provides rich enterprise features to make storage applications more efficient. For example, you can use LUN snapshots to enhance data protection and disaster recovery planning.
The new Multimedia Console integrates all your favorite QTS multimedia apps
The Multimedia Console consolidates all of the QTS multimedia applications into one app, allowing easier and centralized multimedia app management. You can select source files for each multimedia application and can also set their permission settings.
    Digital signature: trusted app installation
A digital signature ensures that the app you’re installing is from a reliable source and free from being tampered with. Beginning QTS 4.4.1, every app in the QNAP App Center is digitally signed. When installing apps, QTS will check for signatures to ensure that apps are from QNAP or QNAP-approved publishers, protecting your NAS and data from being affected and manipulated by malicious programs.
Now, you can freely remove Qtier’s SSD RAID tier
In QTS 4.4.1, you can flexibly remove the SSD from the SSD RAID group to change/ add SSDs, change SSD RAID type or SSD type (SATA, M.2, QM2) whenever needed to enhance storage auto-tiering efficiency.
Supports Samsung SSD Self-encrypting Drives (SED)
QTS now supports Samsung SED (Self-encrypting Drive) SSDs (e.g. Samsung 860 and 970 EVO SSD), allowing you to leverage SSD’s built-in encryption functions without installing extra software or using NAS system resources to encrypt your data for an extra layer of data protection.
*Notes: SED only supports Opal encryption. For more information, please check the compatibility list.

A good guide. Today I used it as a memory refresher when I set up a TS-251D for a friend, and the NAS that I recommended they bought.

52:02 If you reset your NAS back to factory defaults, you can re-create the same shares again, your'll regain access to previous data
The shares will be empty on factory reset, your data just can't be accessed until shares are back.. Just make sure the shares are exactly the same name how you created then inititaly

Thank you for the great tutorial - I need to move or reinstall QTS from an HDD to an SSD on the same NAS, what is the best way to do it without losing APPs configurations; if I must reinstall the Apps, is there an image copy utility for QTS with is with Windows? Thanks

Hey Qnap, do all your NAS drives have the ability to create volumes? My TS-h886 atm only gives me the option to create storage pools, any advice on this?

    I have a TS453D with bays 1-3 occupied with 4TB drives in RAID5, giving 8TB (max) space.
I'm wondering what my options are for moving to higher capacity drives...
Would I place (say) an 8TB drive in bay 4, set it up as a single drive, then somehow copy everything over?
Once that's done, could I place the drive from bay 4 into bay 1, and place 2 empty 8TB drives into bays 2 & 3 and let them RAID5 themselves?
Or is there a better way to move to bigger drives?
On a related note, how would I migrate to bigger drives if all 4 bays were already full, in a RAID 6 array
    Many thanks in advance

Have a top of the range model bought back in 2011 four bays. Now qnap don’t support it and have switched of the sql server function. ( after a serious malware recovery and upgrade which affected lots of their products). Seriously annoying. So Given todays tech I’d recommend trying a couple of raspberry pi 400 to segregate the capabilities and thus save money and learn some new skills. Still on the journey.

Ok so the new thing seems to be creating a new User as the Admin then disabling the default Admin user. I can understand this because it makes it harder for hackers to guess both Username and password. Personally I use OpenVPN for remote access of files etc. The only Port I open is one for Plex. Do any of you think it is actually useful to disable the admin? Also if it is then QNAP needs to just allow us to change the default Username from Admin to whatever we want.

I suppose my question would be when setting up and hoping not to waste drive space and function. Would the following exist for QuTS hero or QTS? . . . I was looking for more videos or anecdotal stories of trial and error pitfalls that people found to be best practices in situations where they wasted drive space for the raid/pool storage/ or value . . . or had to move data then delete it(and re setting up nas pools/volumes), by looking back after they set up when learning and gaining experience with missteps/underestimating storage setups. I was hoping the creator . .or anyone scanning video/this thread might chime if they see this thread.

(I am copying a lot of data (4TB) to my new NAS setup) I am about to add a 2TB Samsung 980 PRO 2TB M.2 PCIe 4.0 Gen4 NVMe SSD with Heatsink PC/PS5 for use with Cache, if this helps? Thank you for making these videos! I have a new TS-932PX and while I was waiting for my HD's I put in 5x 3TB HD's and 3x500GB SSD and one 250GB SSD, all Samsung EVO. And I was able to make everything to work, but after I removed the 3TB drives and I inserted 5x10TB hard drives, I can't seem to be able to get to them. I reset the server by holding the reset in the back for 10 seconds.... My SSD drives are fine, but I can't get the 5 HD's to be recognized by the server. What exact steps should I take to get raid 5 and configure the rest so I can create folders...etc?

@@QNAPUK Yes, they are IronWoolf NAS by Seagate.
I was able to overcome my lack of experience and now I have them in RAID 6 and configured. It isn't very intuitive how one needs to "format the HD's" and than create Volumes and than create shared folders .... In the HELP isn't anywhere clearly laid out how and what goes first and second.... Last time I did this is about 10 years ago...
I do have a question: My other Qnap TS-569 PRO, my last 2 drives are having a red light above the two drives. I'm sure the data is there but how would I copy or revive the drives to at least READ levo, so I can copy the files to my new TS-932PX? Thank you for responding to my questions!

I currently have 2 drives. If I were to get a 3rd, does my RAID configuration automatically go from RAID 1 to RAID 5? Or would I have to delete everything?

@@QNAPUK ok great, thank you! yes, i'm in RAID 1 and planning to get another hard drive. I have the TS-x53D currently with two 8TB drives. what happens if the next drive i get is a 12TB, will i still have everything safe in RAID 5 or should i only get 8TB so they all match?

The NAS is constantly monitoring disk health and you can run extra manual scans if you wish from the Storage/Snapshots application by going to Disk Health on each drive.
