As far as potential subject matter in this particular line of videos is concerned, have you considered Hozuki no Reitetsu (aka, Hozuki’s Coolheadedness)? It’s one of my favorite anime, but it’s practically unknown outside of a very small community of fans and Japan itself. It currently consists of a recently-concluded manga (which is gorgeously illustrated but AFAIK only available digitally) and three seasons of anime, and it’s essentially about the titular Hozuki dealing with the daily running-and subsequent absurdity-of Japanese Hell, and it’s jam-packed with references to Shinto and Buddhist mythology as well as Eastern folklore, and even a bit of Western tales. The first season does go a bit too heavy on the footnotes, but the other two aren’t nearly so full of text. I’d also recommend You Are Being Summoned, Azazel not only for its obscurity, but also because it’s full of the same raunchy humor we see in Ebichu.
