@@NolansKnives Haha thanks man; honestly I’ve been trying to keep them around 15 minutes; The sword build I had mentioned I’m working on will most likely be over 20 minutes though Lord willing. I had about 12 hours total editing time in this one though so longer always makes me nervous unless I just skip through the editing process a bit more 😅. Would it be better to do projects in 10-15 minute long parts/series?
@@IanZ_Forge Well I think you have found a perfect balance! Your videos are short enough to capture attention the whole time, but long enough to fit in a bunch of super helpful information. Great job again I was blow away my this knife, I think that handle was incredible!
Thank you! And honestly if I had a little different shop space I would be able to do that; as it is currently I am using a propane forge for convenience 😞 thank you for the suggestion though and in the future this could be a cool video idea if my space allows it
@@alexcarl9315 Thanks for watching it! And the biggest reason I do the inlay prior is because after the steel is hardened my chisels will not be able to move the metal the way I need it to. Typically I would still do it after heat treat and just differentially harden the piece, leaving the inlay portion soft, but in this case, because it’s Damascus, I want everything to be hardened so that it will etch consistent. (Hard and soft metal etches differently) thanks again!
@@Ccsontos Thank you! And yes they are! 🤠 as far as the foredom, yes I was using an older model! I do bench jewelry work on the side and that’s why I had one originally but they are priceless help for bladesmithing! Definitely get one if you can! Thanks for being here! God bless - Ian

I would never be able to afford something like this, but would you ever consider doing something like this for a viewer? I feel like something like this could be something I pass on as a family heirloom. Its beautiful
@ I honestly would be willing to travel and pay for the material if he let me use his equipment and showed me how, there is just no way I would ever be able to afford the stuff to make my own, but making my own would make it that much more special
I feel I must complain just a hair. You tested the edge before finishing the edge….what does it prove other than a good heat treat. To test a knife is to test a 100% finished knife, and if you need to…clean it up after.
@ ……that’s partly what I said, but a finished edge is what’s is used, NOT a blind edge but a SHARP edge. Otherwise, how will anyone know how long the edge will last? Hmm?
Thank you! And I debated this; honestly I’m leaning more towards a stand as it is an art piece. I think the stand would compliment the show aspect of it more 🙂 that being said if the customer wants a sheath I’ll gladly make one as well!
Very nice work, I’m glad you managed to capture some organic shop antics.
