How To Clean Your TIPM For Optimal Electrical/Electronic Performance. 2016 Ram 2500 6.7

  • What’s up everybody. In todays video, I will be removing, inspecting, and thoroughly cleaning my totally integrated power module also called a (TIPM). All electrical/electronic signals go through the TIPM to function so a clean TIPM is crucial for optimal performance. This is something everyone should do after so many years because overtime, mud, dust, dirt, moisture, corrosion, etc., can get inside the TIPM housing and cause electrical interference. If you start noticing warning lights coming on/off, troubles with your ignition, and just overall electrical issues that do not seem normal, try cleaning your TIPM.

    Also : just disconnecting the batter cable isn't enough. Once the batter is disconnected and the TIPM is unplugged and fully out ; clamp the negative and positive battery cables together enough to tough but not damage them and leave it that way until you are ready to put it all back in. After your done and all reconnected together then disconnect the cables and reconnect the cables to the batter. What this does in addition to cleaning or replacing the TIPM ; it resets the computer and gets rid of the codes in the computer basically a reboot. Once everything is back together turn the key to on position (but don't start it ) give the computer some time( just like your laptop) to reboot. Turn the key off. Wait at least 60 seconds ; now start it up and wait. If all seems good meaning no smoke , no flames , not an overly hot TIPM box , or lights come on then drive as usual. If you see , smell , feel or hear anything that doesn't seem normal then shut it off and disconnect the battery and call a mechanic. Tell them what you did and what happened so they know. If you don't see , smell , feel or hear anything then you should be ok. Drive it but be aware sometimes things take a little while before problems start happening. After a couple days you notice nothing then chances are the problem is fixed but make sure you keep checking. Again ; sometimes these things take a while to appear. Please be very careful when working on vehicles because if your not careful you could damage the vehicle and make it worse or you could harm and possibly end up in the hospital. Yes you can work on them but be cautious.

    Before you start cleaning the connector wires clean the box first then clean the connector wires. As for the " connector prongs " : before you touch any bare electrical prongs make sure you release/discharge any electrical static from your body ( look that up it's not hard but important so you don't short out the mother board ). It only takes a small amount of static to screw up the entire thing and you won't know until you reconnect everything. Static Electricity : during winter you have experienced that shock opening your car door or from static cling from the dryer. This can destroy electronic components. Please be careful with electrics , it really doesn't take much current to totally mesh them up.

    The TIPM is just trash. Dodge makes you believe its a grounding issue, or a dirty TIPM. All vehicles with this TIPM cant all have bad wiring. But just my opinion

    I just moved out of Pa we decided to snowbird for a while in Arizona. I have a 2012 RAM 2500 Cummins, it already has 135K on it and boy is it filthy from the desert dust!!! I'm going to have a lot of fun trying to clean everything. Not only does the TIPM look like it's been through a mad max movie this dust made it into all the vents, inside the doors I've been having strange issues since getting here like SRS codes from the seats I always to wiggle the wires under the seats. O2 and NOX codes from it getting into the O2 module on the frame. I know deleting it would eliminate a lot of this but until I have a place to store the stuff I pull off I won't do it . If I ever want to trade it in a lot of dealerships will try to cut my throat or just refuse to consider it. I hate what they did with the emissions garbage. The only thing going for my 12 is it's the last year with DEF 👍

    Did this end up fixing your random warning lights? i recently had my AC compressor go out on me, all troubleshooting steps point to the TIPM not sending power to the compressor AND ive also started seeing "service air suspension" and my TPMS light will flash randomly. All TPMS are brand new and show current and fluctuating pressures. Thanks for the video! glad I found your channel!

    Thank you for the very detailed video. My truck started randomly resetting dash....then eventually would randomly stall after it did that a few times and dash would click on/off rapidly. The only way to stop the clicking and restart it was to pull battery cables and put back on. It would be fine for about a month. It slowly started getting worse and worse. Now it will not even reset dash anymore...it will just randomly stall out while dash clicks rapidly. Now my fuel gauge suddenly quit. Shows completely empty. So I'm going to try this and hope it fixes it.
    Did you also clean each fuse and relay?

    • @DieselLegiance
      @DieselLegiance  ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s worth a try. I inspected my fuses and relays and they were not that dirty but if your truck is older and they look dirty, I’d suggest cleaning them. You can always try using a multimeter and testing your cables to make sure you don’t have a short somewhere.

    I CAN tell u right now your float is stuck in your coolant reservoir. The fix is A new reservoir, I had done mine same problem 2014 trukk. Now my real problem is my engine cuts off at random times so hardtop figure that out.I DONT know Tipm ? PCM ? I cleaned my Tipm harnesses underneath and dielectric greased them, the trukk has 630,000 miles any ideas?

      @DieselLegiance  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I replaced it all on my truck when I had it and it ended up being a bad water pump. Not sure what’s causing your engine to randomly shutoff. I’m sure there are multiple possibilities. Does it seem electrical related or something else like a Bad fuel pump?

    Hi, I have a few questions here. That I, saw you do in this video! one was you did not clean the blades ? on the fuses this is a very well forgotten item, in maintaing the electrical system almost 90% of the time the fuse blades are/have some puss i call it/corrosion. and please whatever you do (do not) use any diaelectric grease, of any kind. (sales gimic only) if, you would like me to prove this, I can forsure. And another guy, here has said about battery clamps to reset everything I will explain, what this does in a later comment. hope this helps. And please, can you tell me what you have going to your ground/negative battery terminal and if it is 100% assurance the negative bus can never contact chassis ground in any manner through any path. < from the supplier that it was.

    • @DieselLegiance
      @DieselLegiance  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      First, as I always mention, I am no professional mechanic. I just try to figure things out on my own. I did clean the fuse blades I probably just didn’t show it in the video. As far as dielectric grease, I’m sure there is an argument to be made for good/bad. I’ve never had an issue using it. As for what all was hooked up, I don’t remember as I’ve already sold that truck and started a new build. Thanks for your support though, I greatly appreciate all critique. 👊🏼

      @@DieselLegiance No, worries brother it was a nice truck forsure. I have had so many mechanics say load the grease and even go as far as saying use brake cleaner to clean electrical connections (ouch) lol. it was a good video, mind you and a huge e for the effort. thanks for clarifing things. I have been doing electrical for well over 40 years now and have seen, I cannot say all videos on electrical. but I have seen, my fair share. And alot scare me to even watch. your video was far from scary forsure. but just a few points. I will try to explain grounds here if you dont mind. it is a huge factor in anything electrical automotive. it might help you, and maybe others I, dont have my own channel work to much to have one but on my day off, i roam youtube looking for the next huge thing in the auto world! (electric cars) sorry did i just say that? lol. thanks brother. hopefully you still have the Harley thou!

      There are places online that you can ship your Tipm to to have it rebuilt that costs less than a new one. www.ebay.com/itm/184721961969?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=Sa5eDC9kTEO&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=mrhshdafSDW&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

      Yes, the coolant light was related to my bad water pump not the Tipm. But, cleaning a TIPM is always a good maintenance thing to do if extremely dirty or if your having other electronic issues.
