This is a good test but the houses are only a foot apart I think you also need to figure in distance between houses some are ten feet or further also he keeps saying it went through the house it went through a wall not the house so three walls and an average house is 50 feet long with several walls inside otherwise good video especially if you think your safe in your house when you hear gun fire outside

Also couches and fridges etc. Even though they might not slow it down before the first wall impact, they might absorb quite a bit after it slows down from the first wall or so.
Either way, this kinda gives a best/worst case scenario for a baseline.

We found out exactly what your test covered. My daughter was sleeping at 2AM when she was struck by a FMC 9mm in her right side. That 9mm ball round went through a neighbor’s mobile home wall, through our MH wall and then a 1/3” plywood bed backing before hitting her. The bullet entered her front lower right quadrant and ended up next to her spine, but thank the Lord, it didn’t enter her abdominal cavity. Yours is the first test that I have seen that included wall insulation. Well done!

.223 and .556 do a number to cinder block, sure. red clay brick, it may crack, possibly break, but red brick is far more durable than the cinder blocks you see all these shooting channels fire through. if you shot through a red brick wall the round would lose the majority of its momentum. most of the houses on the eastern seaboard in the colonial states, unless the house is newer it isn't going very far. the town i grew up in, the wall is basically bulletproof from being brick/stone exterior and petrified log and horsehair core. we had an accidental misfire of .303 british hit the house, never got through the exterior wall.

@@italianqueen1981 well, in the context of home defense it is implied that he leaves it on his end table/nightstand. Doesn't take a genius to figure that out. His nearest neighbour is half a mile away. If i was gonna burglarize someone, hypothetically, in the middle of nowhere and I know about the gun, I'd probably go for the inhabitant of the house first, as it is unlikely a (muffled) shot will be heard over that distance. Also his statement implies that his house isn't able to withstand bullets. Then he may be using his real name. It's just a lot of information floating around there that could be useful to someone putting enough thought into this. A home defense trainer once said to me "the first step of home defense is not letting anybody know that you are prepared to defend your home. Don't advertise yourself as a target"

Most everything with firearms testing ends up being generalities. There are always a zillion or two zillion varibles. I appreciate your efforts building the walls and doing the demonstration. I found it very interesting. I was once present after a situation took place where a intoxicated guy fired a .357 mag round through his livingroom wall. (cleaning the gun he said) The round exited his apartment, crossed an open space of maybe 18 feet or so, penetrated the next apartment exterior wall, passed a nursing mother on her sofa within a few feet, went into her interior bedroom wall passed through and stopped in the next bedroom wall. Fortunate for all the parties concerned. My EDC is 10mm. My home defense is .45 Your demonstration affirms my choices pretty much. Thanks again, food for thought.

There's a fbi ballistics test using walls and ballistics gel that tested the same thing. In that test, the handgun rounds and buckshot went considerably farther than the 223/556 rounds, which tumbled, fragmented and didn't penetrate as far.
Even though people told me I was crazy for using a 223 rifle for home defense, that test among others helped me make my decision.
In addition to the fact that when it comes to "overpenetration" the question is what the bullet does after you hit your target, not how many walls/houses a missed shot would go through.
No matter what you're shooting, a missed shot poses a danger to everyone/everything in its path.

Hey bud, you did a great job on this, and the vid clearly serves it’s purpose in comparing one caliber to another penetrating walls. It doesn’t matter how different real world walls might be, all we needed to know is how different rifle/shotgun/pistol rounds perform against each other. I’ll never think an AR-15 is a worse home def. gun than a shotgun again, and I certainly will avoid discharging my SKS in the home. 10/10

I enjoyed watching this. Thank you. Anything that goes through a wall with enough force to kill someone on the other side of a wall is overpenetration and opens up a shitload of liability as whoever pulls the trigger is legally responsible for what happens next. I would have liked to have seen pre-fragmented rounds like Glaser Saftey Ammunition. Interior wall penetration is also an issue for any home where rounds could penetrate to other rooms that could hit other people. I was surprised by some of the hollowpoints not expanding as I would have expected. From a home defense perspective, a bullet going through a target causes less trauma than a bullet that stays in a target and the target absorbs all of the energy of the bullet.
I'd like to see demonstrations like this whereby we identify ammunition that will not over-penetrate even an interior wall. Protecting our rights to keep and bear arms requires us to be vigilant and do everything we can to prevent accidents (regardless of intention) from ever happening, as well as minimizing our legal liabilities when we do exercise our rights. Every accident that happens (regardless of intentions), feeds a legitimate narrative that threatens our rights. We need to train responsible gun ownership and demonstrations like this are important. I was surprised and impressed to see what the 22 did! Best regards, to all, Semper Fi

this is a demonstration of the 'worst possible case' where there's JUST 2 walls. Obviously, as he mentioned in a real house there would be multiple walls, as well as furniture, appliances, decorations, etc... Also inside the walls there would be stuff like electrical lines, water pipes, ventilation ducts, and various types of insulation. Another thing to consider is the type of sheathing and siding used. (stone, brick, metal, vinyl, wood plank, wood shingle ect...) Is it an older home with REAL plywood instead of OSB? is there Lathe and plaster on the interior walls? There are many variables to go over.

i have not yet seen the complete video so i dont know if you mention it, but you should also consider distance between the walls and houses. bullets tend to start tumbling after hitting wood and would loose energy while traveling through the air plus they would go through many less walls when hitting sideways

Great video. If you ever decide to do this again, it would be cool to see how the results vary if you used that thicker fake wood siding that you get in the lumber area of the hardware store, for the outside walls.

I would like to see a test showing a 16" AR next to the AK. I feel like the AK's had an unfair comparison because the AR had a shorter barrel.

    • @TheDkb427

16 inch would have made 55 fmj fragment on impact with anything. The ak round prolly didn't expand at all either.

    • @TheDkb427
      @TheDkb427 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@O'Irish McMan I think the ak round is more meant to tumble vs fragment or mushroom. It just charges right through like in the video. Even with the hollow point. Since it was how the bullet was made and not meant to expand. I don't have an AK tho since it's a commie gun. Lol j/p Only thing to really take away from this video is "DON'T MISS"!!! Lmfao.

95% of the comments here are discussing how the walls are unrealistically close. Perhaps, but it’s kinda nice to have a close to worst case scenario comparison (I.e. the furthest it’d penetrate).

yeah, besides, you dont need more than one layer, there are also people in the street, they can get a round too. i prefer spent my money in a real house with real doors and call the cops instead of living in a toy house with the security of a abandon building and risk a non voluntary murder or an expensive lawsuit.

If you don’t shoot the targets at a perpendicular angle you won’t have accurate results because sloped armor is much more effective than perpendicular armor.
