Judging by some of the tests, it looks like the 10 gauge dumped more energy into the targets. Just because it had less penetration does not mean that it delivered less energy.
12 Gauge 3 1/2" are using about the same power loads as the 10 and you still can use 3" or 2 and 3/4" shells in those, so shotguns like the supernova kinda took over the market.

I once had a woman tell me she wanted 6 inches...Told her I'm not cutting it in half for anyone!!! Hole size is a very important factor. Just like how the heat of the meat is equivalent to the angle of the dangle.
There's a steel door intrusion beam in those doors. The 10ga slug went in at a downward angle, and hit the beam on the passenger door; that's what cut the slug in half.
I love how when something explodes bigger than he thought it would his gut instinct is to shelter the gun with his body. If that ain't a true gun nut, I dunno what is.

The 10-gauge definitely had gravy flying higher and raining longer. Also it blew the can over the backstop the 12 gauge only put it towards the bottom of the backstop. It's almost like an exponential increase in power from the 12 to the 10 gauge
Close observation shows that the gravy can shot by the 12 gauge stayed on the near side of the retaining wall while the 10 gauge launched its can over the wall.

The 10 gauge: when it hit the gravy shot up so high it was raining gravy for multiple seconds longer than with the 12 gauge.

Totally agree. you could send a paper ball at 1000 fps at something and do almost nothing but send a bb at 500 and have it go through
Just because 10 Guage dumped more energy in the targets does not mean 12 Guage is not powerful.
@@ShadowSniper2307 I think the reason the 10guage did so poorly against the water jugs is because the mass of the slug worked against itself.
Thinking the 10 guage in the car door test may have hit the window regulator guide. Where the 12 just went sailing through.
Anyone: "Why aren't 10 gauge shotguns that popular?" Scott's shoulder: "Let me tell you why...."

Honestly a good 2 3/4 or 3" 10g load recoils less than a 3.5 12 load. The main issue with 10g is the lack of steel shot for legal waterfowl
