Sarah, thank you so much for taking the time to create this video! It's incredibly useful and insightful, making it a valuable resource for anyone interested in sewing Tie Dress. Your effort is truly appreciated, and I'm grateful for the knowledge you've shared. 😘
Ah you’re so welcome thank you!! I thoroughly enjoyed making them and talking about them!! It’s such a fabulous pattern thank you so much for creating it!! ❤
Nice to see it in two very different fabrics. On sewing therapy's vlog, she shows the ties from the left front and back wrapped around across the body for an asymmetric look, which is nice, because it creates a diagonal line.
I’ve made it 3 times. Love it and just bought some silk to make it for my daughter’s 42nd birthday. What I love the best is that the sizing is so flexible. The pattern maker shows how she can wear 3 or 4 different sizes and they all look good. This is great for someone like me who has never gotten my own size quite right.
I really like the idea of dresses with ties at the waist because it brings in my waist just a little bit. I have a rectangle shape, so anything that will give me a little more shape I like.
I think the mustard dress looks gorgeous on you,you definitely suit this colour.Put your accessories on before you decide to not wear it. I thought nurses uniform as soon as I saw the blue stripe with the white.Using the combination as a blouse looks great as does using one fabric for the dress.
Ah thank you so much! Yes I was thinking a scarf or jacket with the mustard dress would probably work well enough for me to enjoy wearing it. It’s a lovely fabric. 💛
It was really helpful to see this dress made up in two completely different fabrics - thank you. Glad you were able to re-fashion and save the hospital gown. 🙂 We all have these projects.
Very interesting to see how a small detail like changing the colour of cuffs and ties can transform a dress. Well done for finally making it work. Such a versatile pattern. Thanks for bringing it to our attention!
Supposed to be on a buying ban but this dress is screams “buy me” 😮. I love Sewing Therapy and Sarah has inspired me to buy and make so many patterns in the last few years. I look forward to seeing even more gorgeous versions of this dress. 😊. Happy Sewing. Lynne
Love the versatility of this dress pattern! I used to do colour analysis and I am surprised you said you were an Autumn! You are similar to my coloring and I look better in summer colours. The blue definitely suits you and not the mustard.
Ah thank you!! Yes I love this dress! You’re right about the blue being so much better than the mustard on me, but as a rule I definitely prefer the warmer colours!! Have you seen my colour vlog which I did a few months ago? I had such strong opinions on which colours I like! 🫣😂. However, as I’ve said, it’s not the law and pretty much we can wear what we feel best in I think!! 🥰
That dress is a beautiful shape on you. When I first saw the pattern, I discounted it, thinking it wasn't me at all. It's so much better than I imagined.
What a difference when you removed the white edged sleeves and ties. Great to see the process, Thanks. The structured sleeves are now a feature :) And yet the woven Tee looks great WITH the white . We only know when we get it done, how it will play out. Fun video.
Lovely dress Sarah. Love the stripey one. I love Sarah’s patterns and she has really good sew alongs. She has a lovely calm and gentle way of talking. Look forward to seeing your other versions x
The dress style really suits your shape! Not everyone can carry it off as nicely as you do. The mustard soft fabric is better than stiffer blue stripe. Ahhh….but the blouse version looks great. Someone with a thick waist couldn’t look as classy though. Great video!
Sarah, I just bought this pattern today!!!! I love her style. Love your dresses. I've printed off the pattern and cut one out. I'm going to use a light linen for holiday. That navy linen looks gorgeous, you could change the orientation on the fabric to save matching the stripes. Thanks for doing this today. XX
Ooh light linen sounds lovely!! I’m sure you will love it! Thanks for the idea about the stripes, I’m all for anything which makes matching the dreaded stripes easier!! 🥰😂
Thank you for your time making this video - putting it on my list too! It definitely gave me ‘ nurses uniform’ vibes too but the tshirt and refashioned dress are brilliant - well done and so informative.
Love your vlogs that you walk us through your makes and adjustments and fixes! That dress is so cool! I’ll definitely be making that in the future.. still laughing at your son’s comment! You styled it so well at the end too! Effortlessly chic
You nailed it! I bought the pattern after 5 minutes in of your video with specific fabric in mind! Well done…. I like the option ideas you provide! I am Canadian like the designer!
I’ve seen that dress before when she released the pattern but forgot all about it. It’s back on my radar as I love tree versatility of it. They look great on you. (Though definitely hospital-ish before you made the changes!).
Lovely style of a dress, definatly japanese or korean vibes, and so smart with the versatile tie options! I’ve been watching Sarah’s sew-alongs a lot, she’s got such a lovely serene style. Thanks for sharing and modeling how it can be worn!
I love this dress so much I’ve gone and purchased it! Love your two versions and what a different look just by choosing two different fabrics and tying it up in different ways 😀 xx
I love this dress from when I first saw it on Instagram a while ago. Your versions are fabulous, both the mustard one and the final stripe version. The version with the white added was definitely a bit medical! Your son was spot on😂 I love all the details you give us on your makes, particularly on sizing, which is really helpful. Thanks Sarah💕
I made a dress in that mustard color in high school. Every single teacher called me up to their desk to tell me that if I was sick, I didn’t need to come to school. I have winter coloring
Love this so much! Such a versatile pattern but you still managed to make it work harder and give you more options. That was very satisfying to watch. I’m anticipating ocher dresses floating through my dreams tonight. Sold 🧡
@@sewsarahstyle A0 print ordered. Hopefully it gets posted in time for some weekend sewing- rummaging through fabric stash now, it’s definitely bumped to the top of the list
I’m also an Autumn that can’t wear mustard😢! I love this dress! I love that you changed the white ties to the striped fabric, too. I just saw the pattern in the announcement and I wish it was a jumpsuit!
Ooh yes it would make a fab jumpsuit! About the mustard, I’m actually warming to it a little as I wear the dress, especially with a jacket to cover some of it… perhaps it’s worth another look! 💛😂. Thank you so much. 😊
Hi sarah, thank you for introducing me to this pattern, I’m definitely going to buy it. You look fabulous in your versions! I also like the Naya t so I know I’m going to like the sleeves. Thanks. X
Great vlog as always love your dresses although you are right it is a nurse vibe lol much better with the changes and it works with the top you look great ❤❤
Love the dress very versatile the changes to the pinstripe dress makes it loads better for sure and can see what you meant now you’ve changed it. I don’t really do dresses if it was a jumpsuit I would try it. Fabulous x
I bought it this morning! Such a lovely design. I love both of your versions 😍. Planning to play with the direction of the stripes. Also have a double faced gauze fabric. Endless possibilities 😊
Hi Sarah, thanks so much for another amazing vlog, and for introducing me to this dress, I absolutely love your versions, I have bought it and am waiting for some double gauze to arrive to make it up, can you give me some advice please? my measurements put me in a size that gives me over 11inches of ease across the bust, I'm not fond of oversized garments, but obviously this dress needs some ease, I was thinking of sizing down to the 14, which gives me over six inches of ease at the bust, do you think this would work? thanks
Hi, thanks so much!! That’s exciting that you have the pattern. I’m sure you will love it!! I’ve just double checked the finished measurement chart. It says that the 8 bust is 49.6. I also made the side panels one inch less. To be honest I think I could have sized down to the six but didn’t want it to be too small when I first made it. I’m happy with the ease which I guess must be about 9 inches?!!! It’s a tricky one to call because I think ease is a personal preference. How many sizes are you going down from your measurements? I like the fact that the excess ease folds or pleats in to make a bit of interest if you know what I mean?!! 12 inches of ease sounds like way too much to me though!!! Hope that helps?! 🤔🙃😂
@@sewsarahstyle thanks Sarah, the pattern puts me in a size 20, but as usual it would be too big on shoulders i think? I may do the 16 bodice as a toile first before using my good fabric xx
Hi, yes I’m the same the shoulders are always too big!! And these are very dropped shoulders, so lots of ease there to be honest!! I would definitely toile it as I always do anyway, and I’m sure either a 16 or a 14 would be fine depending on how much extra fabric you’re happy to tie in!! 😂 happy sewing and let me know how you get on! 🥰
@@sewsarahstyle Thanks so much Sarah, I will definitely let you know how it goes, I've got some lovely double gauze for it in a rust colour with gold flecks in it, should look great when done( can only hope!) 🥰
Hi Sarah, I am "attempting" this dress after your beautiful versions. May I ask, did you line yours as per the instructions or did you just leave the lining out? TY😘
Hi, I’m pretty sure I sized down from a 12. Sorry can’t check at the moment, but I remember it being two sizes. Definitely check the finished garment measurements to help decide. I do like a bit of ease with a dress like this though. Happy sewing 😃
Ooh now that’s interesting because I was wondering the same thing? It would definitely need stabilising and there are a few seams, vertical and horizontal which could potentially go a bit wobbly, but if you’re anything like me, then just have a go!! If in doubt I will always use fabric I’m not precious about first. I am also tempted to try a knit as I think it would drape beautifully. You could also ask Sara for her advice if you’re on Instagram, she’s so helpful! 🥰. Good luck!!
I'll give it a try! It reminds me a bit of the kielo wrap, which of course can be knit or woven. Sara is the sweetest, I messaged her once about the hanbok wrap dress pattern and she was so helpful 😊😊

Nice to see it in two very different fabrics. On sewing therapy's vlog, she shows the ties from the left front and back wrapped around across the body for an asymmetric look, which is nice, because it creates a diagonal line.
Yes thank you! I think that’s so interesting the way she ties it. I do love a bit of asymmetry 🥰
Ah I totally agree it is beautifully flexible and looks great in different sizes and different t fabrics!! 🥰
Wear a bright multicolored scarf with the dress-so the color isn’t by your face! Then I think it will work.
I love the striped dress! Very becoming!
Oh thank you!! Yes I’m definitely a fan of adding a scarf to help with wearing colour, thank you! 🥰
@@sewsarahstyle You’re welcome!☺️
I’ve made this twice now Last one in border print and coordinated fabrics
