The Attributes of God... and Why I Believe They Mean God Must Be a Trinity

  • For a while now I’ve been wanting to cover this topic about God’s attributes, and in my study of putting together this video, I discovered that this is also a great way to show the validity, perfection, and necessity of God being a Trinity, particularly in God’s love. I think a lot of unbelievers-and even believers- think they know who God is and how He functions. But so many things are completely misunderstood about God because they misunderstand who He is in His glory and completeness, mainly, they misunderstand the Attributes of the Christian God. Who is He? What makes Him so unique and set apart? All throughout Scripture He sets Himself apart from all other false gods and anything people could possibly imagine in creation. I think if the attributes of God were understood better then people would have a much better understanding of how God interacts with the world and why He does it in the manner in which He does and why it's so believable that God doesn't need anything from humanity... because He's completeness perfected!

    Be sure to check the description for more Scripture references! 🔥😊 I enjoy covering topics like this. Also, I already know there will be people who think the trinity is manmade, created at the Council of Nicaea. This will always be a very odd (and completely unfounded) claim to me, but I did a video with my friend Wesley Huff that talks about this that you can find in the description.

      I LOVE listening to stuff like this. Thank you for relaying to us an awesome piece of what you have learned (or of dense, chocolate cake, lol!!). Topics like this have become so fascinating to me, and it has caused me to believe strongly that it is SO important for us to seek to understand who God really is, and to make sure that we are doing that in a way that aligns with God's Word. Though the nature of God can be so hard to understand for our little human minds, I don't think that means that it is permissible to throw out the parts we don't get. From what I have heard from some Modalists, or Oneness people, it seems like the fact that God is three persons in One God, is too hard to comprehend, and so they do all they can to throw that out; even using Scripture to do so. The way you broke this loaded topic down was very helpful to me! Some day, Lord willing, I would love to take classes like you are right now! I just have to get my teaching degree done first!
      God bless you, Melissa! I always enjoy listening to your videos because it challenges me to think more deeply, and biblically, and to go to God's Word about the questions I have. Thank you!

      He is the Alpha and Omega, omnipresent and omniscient, so what you say makes sense. I believe in creating us in His image, He gave us amazing the gifts of compassion, intellect, and, most importantly, free will. This is just my opinion, but I believe He is simply pure love. Any wrath, we bring about and onto ourselves in this life, and we may carry it with us beyond our time here on earth if we don’t let go of our egos and accept the love He offers. Creation is intentional, but destruction is natural. It’s the law of entropy, but it’s a cycle. Anyway, I speak confidently knowing full well I could be absolutely wrong. That’s the basis of my faith-believing God but knowing I can’t even come close to knowing Him. I can try though!

      I came to the Lord with a common question, that if He is a God of Justice, why then is the punishment for sin eternal, and not for a certain amount of time? Here is the understanding that I fully believe He gave me.
      Several times in scripture it speaks of people who do certain evil acts as having to "bear their iniquity". Once anyone leaves this Earth and are guilty of sin, that sin remains with them. They "bear" their sin, their iniquity. Since the justice of God requires that sin be punished, and the sin remains a part of them, therefore the sin is continually punished. Because there no longer is a way to remove the sin, the punishment of that sin continues. God's Judgment, or righteous condemnation of sin, requires that the sin is punished, and since the sin remains, the punishment remains.
      After we leave this life on Earth, the other side is extreme. Either extreme forgiveness, righteousness, joy in the Lord, or extreme punishment. I've listened to testimonies of people who have died, experienced hell, and been revived. There is a common thread of people being very aware of their sin, and even reports of them looking at another and seeing every sin that person has committed. In hell there is sin-consciousness, and I strongly suspect that in Heaven is righteousness-consciousness.
      I hope that this is clear. Blessings to you brethren of victory over sin.

      We definitely dumb God down to our level and this is a mistake. The analogy that I like to use is a parent to their young child. The child cannot even wrap their minds around so many things that adults just understand as basic. The wisdom of a parent is so much greater than that of an infant or toddler; now just imagine how many billions of times more immense the creator of this universe must be compared to us.

    • @joelunruh6534
      @joelunruh6534 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Time to Believe well, as there are few "widows" and "orphans" contextually speaking. ( orphans and widows in those times were totally destitute and without help, widows because they had no husband and thus no real means of sustaining life through income, and orphans because they had no family) the implicit of the text would be along the lines of what Jesus said " Do good and lend hoping for nothing in return." And " when you throw a feast do not invite your family and your neighbor lest they repay you and you have no reward in heaven, instead invite those who cannot repay you and you will be repaid at the resurrection of the just" "and when you do a charitable act do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing."... the implict of the text in James is the explicit command of the LORD our God through Jesus Christ. To do good for those who cannot do for themselves for the sake of goodness, not seeking to be repaid or with any alternate motive. Christians do this in a myriad of ways through outreaches to the homeless, food banks, Christian discipleship programs ( of which I work at one). I hope God blesses your understanding.

    I just had to walk away from a church that I was a part of for a while. They preached Oneness or Modelism. At the time it was my personal belief that it was a "splitting hairs" topic so I was initially flippant. Then they slowly started implying that if you aren't baptized in Jesus name rather than Father, Son, and Holy Spirit you aren't really saved. This was the breaking point for me as water baptism wasn't required for salvation to my understanding. I left them broken hearted and still love many of them as brothers and sisters in Christ. I hope that the Lord regards them as His and will be merciful with them.

    Melissa: WOW, what a teaching. I seldom write down notes almost In it’s entirety, this teaching I almost wrote the entire message. I am so thankful someone came up with the idea of a pause feature. With the way my mind works when you said something that caught my interest my mind will stay with that thought as you kept on talking, I would Input in my journal that thought and what you had said, hit rewind to the part where I may have missed. With smart phones, computers this is so easy, I remember when tape recorders came out hitting pause, rewind start stop etc… wasn’t so easy, anyway I digress. It took me two days of study time to view this video numerous times, don’t know how many but it was more than 5 times, that’s how much I enjoyed this message. Please keep these anointed videos coming, naturally I test what anyone says according to God’s word. Melissa God bless you my Sister. This should be transcribed or made into a short book or Ebook. I had never in my life heard of what the Attributes of God were until after I came out of the charismatic movement. As a new convert it was something that I wanted to know so badly so I picked up the A.W Tozer and the A. W Pink books on it. Dr. Steve Lawson has an amazing series on it amongst others. I’ve always said that a true believer who has understood God’s attributes is a different kind of Christian.

    One of the biggest impacts in my life beyond accepting Christ as Lord & Savior (John 3:16) - was when I moved from just knowing about God to truly knowing God. ‘Truly knowing God’ - is to know, understand God’s character & His attributes. This occurred when I read the book, “The God You Can Know” by Dan DeHaan. I have read it multiple times over the lasts 30 years. By ‘truly knowing God’ my relationship with Him, my love for God, my trust in God’s promises, my worship of Him, my faith & spiritual growth, my witnessing, etc. all ‘went off the scales’. Thank you for your video & encouraging other to move forward to truly knowing God.

    I personally find it super cool how some concepts that exist in God's creation have the imprint of Tri-unity. Take space, for instance. Space=height+width+depth. Height is not width, nor is width depth, nor is depth height, but all 3 make up space. Time=past+present+future, same thing. God's cleverness is so far beyond us we just have to be amazed!

    • @jeremyg7261
      @jeremyg7261 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You have failed to provide any reasonable association between these claims. You describe how you measure volume, not space. Time is only ever present. What about all the things that don’t use three? Not god? Also god? Seems like you are just randomly pattern seeking and then applying your fictional view of reality on top to explain it.

    • @BornTimes2
      @BornTimes2 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jeremyg7261 Just saying that there are tri-unities that exist in creation, which makes the concept of tri-unity able to be understood (in some sense) by humans. I find that super-cool! And God bless you today. 🙂

      Matthew 3:16
      “And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:”
      This verse clearly talks about the Spirit of God and not about a third divine person or being.
      Jesus talks to his apostles after his risen in John 20:21-22
      “Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.
      And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:”
      The Holy Ghost or Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God and Spirit of Jesus Christ.

    Order ding you got it as the first in succession. oh my..... You figured out what the 3 lists where. I worked out it had to be 3 columns. I was trying to corelate them off the other words I found. Looks like we were walking though this in very similar time too. Sweet. I get to know this has been reciprocated, I confirm the have enough distinctions to recognize these as coming through the Same Set Apart Spirit, and in whom the rest of you can seek CERTAINTY. Anybody who checks and knows, leave you're findings. 3 is a structural balance thing yes
