- The C2A1 Mexas in War Thunder is a Canadian Leopard 1 with some serious armour upgrades! The C2A1 from Canada was introduced as an event vehicle to War Thunder over 2 years ago so I wanted to see how well it performed after all this time.
The Leopard 1A5 is a formidable tank. It has a 105mm cannon that shoots DM33 giving it over 400mm of penetration. The only thing really letting it down is poor protection against chemical rounds. Don't worry, though... the C2A1 Mexas has you covered... and covered is an understatement.
The C2A1 in War Thunder is fully protected frontally and from the side with giant screens of composite. Most poor HEAT-FS rounds just won't even dent this tank. The only really effective HEAT-FS against it is its own round. Since this is a German Tank, that means you won't really be facing it too often!

Something tells me the mexas armour is just modelled as structural steel instead of you know... the highly advanced composite it is
Keep in mind this is MEXAS-M (Medium). Given that one of the biggest ant-tank threats in the middle east was RPG's (in which MEXAS-M is designed to protect primarily from shoulder fired HEAT weapons), it won't be a whole lot of help against many HEAT rounds fired from tanks. As far as I know, the heavier variant (MEXAS-H) has only been used on some Leopard 2's, but I'd assume most MEXAS has been replaced by AMAP packages by now.
@Mach-2-Fishbed IIRC, the MEXAS-M was also supposed to protect from 30mm APFSDS, but in game its like wet toilet paper
@@Mach-2-Fishbed current RPG ammo can hurt tanks. Most commonly firing a HEAT round that can pen just shy of 500mm RHA and less commonly firing a tandem charge that can go up to 750mm. Keep in mind tho these things only have a 200m range.
@@Alexander_Hodgeit was never designed to protect against 30mm apfsds. And it could not have been since it was a 1990s project and most of the 30mm apfsds in the world were designed after 2000s. I.e. Russian one has entered service in 2010, 20 years after the development of Mexas armor pack.
It was designed to hold 30mm AP rounds, at that time most likely of APBC type only.
So it’s pretty much pinpoint accurate in the game - it does not protect against modern 30mm ammunition or HEAT shells higher than 76mm caliber.
It does protect against the shells that are currently not in the game(rpg-7) or HEAT shells that not used at all by lower caliber gunned vehicles like Rooikat, aubl-hvg, etc.
@alexey_chekhovich Canadians did a study during the early years of the Afghanistan war and found that the MEXAS-M kit installed on the C2 allowed it to have better 360° HEAT protection than at that time the currently fielded M1 abrams. Not frontally ofc but in 360°. M1 has been known to shrug off RPGs and even Tandem HEAT.
I was the loader for this beauty in Afghanistan, loved this tank. We used it since it was the only frame we had mine roller/digging equipment for. All my brothers were rolling around in the big brother A1. We held our own, and outworked all the newer tanks everyday.

The tank disappearing/going invisible is apparently a new feature added to the game. Instead of fixing the problem where you sometimes see outlines of tanks through smoke; now they just go invisible instead. Which is problematic when the vehicle is not fully covered, but still goes invisible. Very cool of Gaijin

they couldve just reverted the smoke change, since it was better concealment and didnt look like total shit before, but instead they just decide to make it even worse lmao

At least it was apparently a thing according to a tips vid (i think from ZoltanSultan) a few years old, but they've made it 100x worse at least...

As a Canadian I love that our tanks are spread across like four different tech trees, even though they all have our flag on them.
With the amount of tanks Canada has operated since the interwar period, I think it's time for us to get our own tree.

Even just gathering everything onto the British tree would make more sense than scattering Canada all over the place, having our own tech tree would be nice

A shame that after this latest patch the C2 has German crew voices and not Canadian ones. They've been good with most of them, but Canada seems to have been missed out

@@DeathScrew we have produced some cool things but it would mainly be cool because it would combine the UK and the US along with later german stuff. We also modified our own tanks to fit different needs that were not apart of the original design

so glad i bought this thing way back during it's $35 days, had to have it cause i'm Canadian lol.
But the turret armor is surprisingly good,
earlier today i took 2 bmp-2m missiles with 0 damage to it. But at the same time I've been 1 shot by stock HEAT rounds through it before too, Definitely inconsistent but man when it works it's so nice.

@@themanwhoisprettycool9166 when it first came out it was just considered a worse slower Leopard A1A1, so it took a while for the price to come up and people only slowly realized it's actually quite good.
After buying the ram I really want this but can't justify the price, maybe some special Canada Day I'll buy it drunk
Yea, im glad I got it from the event it was in. sure, grinding events sucks but I ended up with a good fun tank that is surprisingly expensive now

The first game was pretty familiar to me with the smoke party at the beginning , I was like « it’s funny it happened the same thing to me this week end on the same map and same Br » until I saw my name (frmc taumyyy) in the kill feed 😂

Lost 3 fingers in a weird accident that made my vehicle bonnet slam onto my hand while adding de-icer to my windshield reservoir. Finally Ok’ed to use them without any restrictions. As a Canadian, I *HAD* to have this Leo to complete my Canuck Collection. I love the Strathcona Horse user camo I have for it.
When this first came out, you couldn't put the Canadian Ground Forces Decal on it until they fixed it so that you could for German tanks above Rank 5

@@Alexander_Hodge I guess but I feel like the small amount of tanks would have to be added to a existing nation in warthunder because on its own it would lack lots of content, maybe add it to Britain though they already have South Africa, so overall it would be a hard thing to add to the game

For years this Leo had a ghost Ammo bug, which resulted in your ammo storage always being folly loaded, it didnt matter how many rounds u carried into the match, ur storage was full and it ammo racked extremly easy. After they fixed it (only took years) its a real fun tan to play :)

i have this thing and tbh ive found just angling the hull makes you nearly invulnerable to bad darts and any chemical warhead

Favourite tank. Looks cool. And, my biathlon instructor might command one.. all he told me is he's a tank commander for a "Leopard 1" at Gagetown, and I know the base model for the C2A1 is a Leopard 1 and the C2A1s etc got put into training duty after they got outdated..

i have no idea how you are so lucky in this game. Every time I try what you do I end up getting pumped by someone I never seen that flanked or as soon as I crest the slightest. You seem to get away with stuff that I never can.
All I am seeing with this tank is the great flat spots to sleep on :D

I have noticed that the amount of invisible tanks has tripled. There have been Tiger II's, Panthers, T-34's, etc. (grinding France 5.3) less than 30-40 feet in front of me and I just see a poof of smoke come out of the air and I am dead.
Hi OddBawZ, i love your videos :) could you play the Leopard 2K, please? I recently got it and i think it's pretty fun, especially against choppers and light tanks with that 20 mm on top.
In the real world Canada hasn't used these since 2011 when we left Afghanistan and donated all 17 of the C2's we had there, which is the Canadian variant of the Leopard 1A5. We made the switch to the Leopard 2 in 2007, but from then until 2011 there was overlap of using both there.

21:45 Literally the most broken thing in warthunder, 99.9% of the time whenever I have a round ricochet it just enters a parallel plane of existence and no longer interacts with the tank, the amount of times Ive hit the side of panthers and seen the round ricochet then whizz straight through the turret crew without hurting them at all is just pain, its like the server just decides it cant handle it so defaults to "it bounced so its not gonna do anything so I'll just say it doesnt exist". I blame this as the reason for why Ive shot trap tanks maybe 3 times in 2.5k hours, even though it happened often enough in real life for germany to develop completely different turret designs to stop it from happening.
Just get rid of volumetric gaijin, it doesnt work properly and the vast majority of the playerbase would much rather play a slightly less realistic game that works properly (especially given how utterly unrealistic it is anyway) than a 3% more realistic one that only works when the stars align and the appropriate amount of virgins have been sacrificed upon the commieboo alter

for whatever reason, it looks like there is a spot on the top of the turret right behind the gun of the T-62 that is invulnerable to Nords

The C2 Mexus is a fun tank once you get DM33 and thermals, you become a fucking menace in downtiers,
However it is still prefered to play like a British tank and just snipe with it regardless.
I love it as its the one of the only few top tier Canadian tanks
The modular armor is not modular in game. If I had the option I would just remove the cope and save the weight, similar to what the M8 AGS can do.
Is it good to be always using your thermals in sniper mode? By doing this am I at a disadvantage? Would love some tips, haven't been performing the best lately.

I'd love to see an air subtree for Canada in the British air tree. It would help the brits with the lack of effective top tier vehicles for the next while, and would bring a plethora of interesting vehicles to the nation.
C2A1 and Class 3(P) are my two favorite German event tanks cause they are both amazing vehicles but yet aren't so OP they draw attention to themselves that results in their nerfing
I would love to know the complete thought process behind all these moves that makes you have these high kill games like this or if it’s also just partly luck. To me 5 kills is an insane game lol 😂

That Turm III spam, tho. Noticed that when I was playing too. Everyone bought a new toy, but being German teams, they lemming straight into a bloodbath and quit after one death. Not even good when you are on opposite teams. If you aren't part of the initial slaughter, you get nothing for the match except the W and if yer lucky a cap.

Heat and composite are odd in this game, I have killed Turms directly to the upper hull front with heat and other times the jet of molten steel appears to make crewmembers it hits just mildly uncomfortable..
