- And finally the famous Dance/Drums/Endos Medley on my TH-cam Channel. Using a better source for the TV Broadcast, i have dubbed everything again, corrected some errors, and I think, its better than the one I have uploaded way in 2010 I think :-)
When Music was Great. I miss these days.....
This reminds me of the raw power of Los Endos when I first saw them perform this at Knebworth in June 1978. An utterly amazing evening and the stupendous sound of the Taurus bass pedals shaking the ground.
This version is electrifying! Never heard them take Dance on a Volcano into some of those places rhythmically, melodically, texturally. And Tony still had the Mellotron!

@Atlsynth Other than the Dance reprise, I don’t recognize it. However, that double drum bit in between the songs sounded a lot like Duke’s Travels, two years before it’s release. Perhaps this was the beginnings of that song?

Holy crap! I was 17 years old and finally got to see Genesis twice in 1978 and again in 1980!. One show was way the hell up in Dayton Ohio, and later in Cincinnati, Ohio, 1978, where I lived and grew up. I wanted to see them on their 1977 tour, but they only came to Cleveland, 250 miles away, and my damn car wouldn't make it! At least I got to see this tour twice within a few months, but I really wanted to see the '77 "Wind & Wuthering" tour the most! The '78 tour, for "ATTW3" was a lot more involved than the "Duke" tour in 1980, which was much more stripped down and more boring. But at least I got to see my prog heroes 3 times! It was a blast!
I saw those two shows as well. I was 19. We did drive down from Cincinnati to Nashville for the 77 tour with Steve. Were you at the grand opening of peaches records and tapes when Genesis was there signing autographs? It was a Saturday

That's what a world class live act looks like.
I saw this very tour performed at Knebworth in 1978. The power through the PA system from the Moog Taurus bass pedals was stupendous. Equally powerful was the Mellotron's choirs and strings. So much stronger than the later digital replacements. The athletic speed, power and prowess of their performance here was never surpassed.

I love me some Close to the Edge and other stuff, but... you have a point. First time I heard this I couldn't believe it. I had to listen to it over and over before I even went on to the next song. The whole album is stupid good.

Such a powerhouse of a drummer with impeccable timing and stamina.
It's been said they didn't know if Collins would have the chops to handle the vocals after Peter left. He certainly proved that he could.
Not quite true James, Collins did try out singing quite soon after PG left but he wanted to stay on playing drums, so they looked around for another singer but couldn't find anyone they thought suitable, so Collins started to sing.
Actually according to his biography he did sing backing vocals while PG was lead singer, but as soon as he left they looked for a singer to replace him. After they had one guy that they thought was the best out of all the auditions come in and try vocals but fail at softer tunes like Ripples or Mad Man Moon, Phil said he would give it a try. They found out that he sounded good on not only softer songs but the harder ones like Squonk. They said they searched for so long but their singer was right under their nose.

The most accomplished live band ever in my opinion. Immaculate blend of audio and visual. None come close and I have really seen them all. Each and every gig they did and I have seen them about 12 times was superb.

Rush and Yes are still the two best live bands I've seen, but I'd definitely put this era Genesis right with them.

The video wasn't the greatest but the audio is off the charts! This was an incredible time period in the trajectory of the band.
The best live band in the world!!!....seen them dozens of times from 75 to date, this period I think was when they were at their very very best!!!

I flew from Japan to Detroit to see their Turn It On Again tour. Had a mother and son behind me and when I was singing along with the mowin’ blades, the kid said he had never heard it and asked me which album. He seemed to be enjoying himself. Quite the mom to bring him.
You’ve been following them about 2 years longer than me. I’ve spent a lot of time in cars traveling to their concerts. Trips from NC to Florida and Iowa were the longest.
I must say, one of the most rousing performances I've ever seen...which i did in 78 in Los Angeles. Glad i caught them before they metamorphosed into a pop group..

I saw them on this tour when I was in college. I stood with my mouth hanging open the entire concert....had been a fan since the beginning but had never seen them live. I get chills to this day watching this...thanks for uploading. Any band wanting to make it big: get to where you can perform like this and you will be a shoe-in.

Magnifico! Ah 70s Genesis! The confident guitar strumming of Mike Rutherford. The technically proficient keyboard wizardry of Tony Banks. The cutting, sharp vocals of Phil Collins and the soulful, rhythmic percussion of Chester Thompson. Crunchy, grungy brilliance.
Mike Rutherford is the baseman. Steve Hacket is on the guitar
Mike on 12 string; Daryl Stuermer on electric 6 string; Mike on bass pedals.

Correction: Mike's on 12 string guitar & bass pedals for DOAV; switches over to bass guitar on his trusty doubleneck for the first half of Los Endos; back to 12 string & pedals for the goosebump-inducing finale.
The first ever band I saw play was Genesis at Knebworth in June 1978. Absolutely stunning show and incredible sound. The Moog Taurus bass pedals shook the ground and practically went through you. As others have mentioned, hair-raising stuff.
I was at this concert - absolutely mind-blowing. I was 17 and a massive Genesis fan.
Wow, i never heard this drum duet version! Having the triplet thing that later would kick into los endlos already , but using it here as switch into the los endow groove and kick into los Endos earlier with a stop on snare and hihat ..very rare occurrence in the long history of the ever evolving drum duet history.

This was the first Genesis-tour I have been (different venue). Also my very first rock-music-concert. Genesis set the standard extremely high. Unforgettable!

Saw them in Glasgow about the same year. Los Endos was the highlight for me and seeing and listening to this makes the spine tingle. After Gabriel and Hackett left, Genesis were never better than this.
I saw this tour in April, 1978, in Oakland California. This was the finale followed by I know What I Like for the encore.

Oh my. Thanks beyond, for posting this. I saw the band in 76 doing this song with Steve Hackett. Great show, life changer. Daryl was a change; you can hear that in spades with the first notes you hear from himhere. But damn.....he was totally cred. A fabulous addition to Genesis.
How could one be happier than someone to getting to do what Daryl....and Chester.... got to do. Truly, Genesis will always be some of the most amazing players in prog...a genre they helped create.

Saw them on their Seconds Out tour at Saratoga, NY and while that was about 45 years ago, and I don't remember much of the show, I'll never forget their performance of this piece.

I saw my first Genesis concert in 1978. While I wished that I could have seen the full 5-man unit with Steve Hackett and Peter Gabriel, this version of the band did not disappoint in any way. Plus Peter Gabriel did join for the encores at the Madison Square Garden show that I saw. This video brought the full memory of that show back, Thanks for posting.

I saw over 100 bands from 1970 - 1990 and Genesis is tied with Pink Floyd for the best ever concert. Saw them both twice and was an experience I'll never forget! ✌️

Late 70's, Best post Gabriel Genesis.Trick of the tale and Wind and Wuthering were terrific . Later years they all but forget the stuff with Gabriel. They played a couple of song medley.

This tour seems to be one of the best they did !!! I saw them in 1980, 1982, 1987, 1992 and 2007... the best I saw was the 1982. But no one came close to what I heard of the 1978 tour.... I wish I saw them at that time and every year before !!!
The best tours Genesis did was the "Lamb..." tour, the "Trick of the Tail" tour with Bill Bruford, and the "Wind And Wuthering" tour with Chester Thompson.
After Steve Hackett left, they weren't the same.
I feel the same, I was in Offenbach, Germany, this Title was of cause the Last of the concert, and the crowd was so complete satisfied, that no one cried for more... That's it!!!
I saw them not long before this, in '77, before Steve Hackett left the band. It was at the old Brady Theater in Tulsa, Oklahoma: a relatively small, intimate setting. I think my ticket was, like, seven dollars. To this day, it's still the best concert I ever saw.
It's nice to see that same laser again (actually, there were at least two, the other pointed down). As glad as I am to see this fuzzy old video - ANY video from this far back - it doesn't do that laser justice.

Being a huge genesis fan from the 70s and onward,thhe only band who could put up a better live show was Rush...this song is on my constant replay list...mindblowingly good
i remember first hearing this as Knebworth 78 recorded and broadcast by The Friday Rock Show on Radio 1. Was always disappointed never find a version that stood up to that. This one is close...FRS having a touch more prominent guitar in the mix
