To answer a few questions: -This was filmed for Austrian TV, there's also a short interview that I removed as there was a problem with the audio. (I'll upload it later)-As far as I know, this is all the film from this show that remains today, but I could be wrong. (I hope) It's also impossible to know if they filmed the whole show or just some songs. -This video is straight from the original 16mm film, not from a broadcast source, that's why it looks great. -I'm not interested in getting money from this, or any other videos from my channel. Seeing people enjoying the video is the best possible reward for me.
This is definitely priceless in every sense of the world ~ too bad it’s a montage with excerpts as opposed to complete tracks😔 But thanks for the upload anyhow; much appreciated 🙏
Phil Collins is a frigging beast! World class drummer, world class singer, world class song writer. Thank you Phil for all the joy you’vre brought to the world since the late sixties!
Utterly enthralling and such great quality. It's just like you can dissappear back to 1978 for 15 glorious minutes. You have made thousands upon thousands of Genesis fans very happy.
Since they never released any complete live concert video from the ATTWT tour, like they did for 76, 77, and 80 onwards, this is a treasure in this quality. All the other 78 clips I've seen are fuzzy and/or dark, and they aren't pro shot.
Agree 10000000% Phil being heavily influenced by Billy Cobham. I've joked that he out Cobham's Cobham, though his playing is no joke. It's very tasty, and he grooves. Are you a drummer yourself? @@steve-0493
SENSATIONAL!! I was there! This was my first live concert in my life. I was mind bowed and from that day on an absolute Genesis fan. (I was just 17) Thank you for this wonderful movie
Obviously if you’re here watching this and reminiscing this is undoubtedly (in my opinion, mind you) the best “live” Genesis era that ever was 🎶!!!! This is the Phil we all love and know, he gave it 100% every night, year after year ❤️🎶
The A.T.T.W.T. tour...brilliant songs and brilliant playing. I feel that this line-up never performed a better tour than this one(I've seen all of them) and the Drumming by Chester and Phil, individually and together, was magical. Phil's singing was so confidently on and Tony, Mike and Daryl kept the show in vivid musical color.
@@kbrewski1 My comment is slightly mis-leading; I've seen all of the "line-ups" not "tours". Regardless, I am quite familiar with the band and I am certain there are many other folks who are as well.
@imdv-ub7fb No need to be so defensive . I saw Genesis 10 times on 6 different tours. Imo, the Duke 1980 Tour had a better setlist overall and since it was a small theater Tour, it was very cool seeing them in an intimate 3000 seat old theater rather than a 15/20K arena. I didn't get to see the 78 Tour because they skipped my city unfortunately, but I've got many ROIOs. Imo, Steurmer was still learning how to play Hackett's guitar parts and was a bit rough at times in 78. I think he blended in more smoothly in 1980.
@@kbrewski1Daryl's guitar tone on the 1978 tour is abysmal, it's harsh and sharp with low gain and it sticks out like a sore thumb, it really didn't work well with the kind of textures Steve did originally. They REALLY improved on it with the years and the Duke tour was already sounding a lot better. I feel they peaked his guitar tone in 1992, but by that time he was mostly playing bass.
Priceless footage! The quality of video and audio held me spellbound for the entire 15 minutes. This is definitely peak Phil and it’s fascinating to see Darryl and Chester so early on in their Genesis live careers. I too was disappointed to miss out on the instrumental section of Cinema Show, but the closeup on Tony’s hands in the opening the Lamb more than makes up for it. Thanks so much for this wonderful gift.
Having been a hardcore Genesis tape trader in the 80's it's especially wonderful to see what some of those old clips actually originally looked like before numerous analog copies bled out the images. And to see the complete raw footage is just mind-blowing! Thank you for all your fantastic work!
Had you seen shoddy VHS dupes of this one before? I've never seen it and I've been tracking down anything I could find re Genesis since VCRs were born!
@@kbrewski1 I have it somewhere on an old PAL VHS tape. The quality is awful from what I recall and I think it's b/w from the color being totally washed out.
It’s not just down to multiple generations of copies. The original TV broadcast would never have looked this good as there simply wasn’t a way to get the detail off of the film and onto a format that could distributed or broadcast into people’s home. Even if we had HD TVs back then.
Saw this Genesis tour in ‘78 at Merriwether Post Pavillion in Maryland. My first Genesis concert! It was truely a spiritual experience. The vari-lights, spotlights, “smoke”, in conjunction with the giant hydraulic mirrors made this show totally mind blowing!! The music was magical! A night I vividly remember and will never forget!
I was at one of those shows too. 6th row left of center. Girl next to me was skeptical of my pre-show description of Genesis as the "best." After In the Cage she tapped me on the shoulder and says, "I've been to a lot concerts but have seen anything like THIS." Indeed, a great, great show. No Vari LItes. Those weren't invented until 1980, first anyone used them was Genesis on the Abacab tour.
The quality alone is just stunning, it is the first time I see footage from this tour where you get a real good impression of the light show and the colours on stage. Having Lamb/Musical box in here is great too, and the only video footage of the first half of Cinema Show with Phil (the 1976 footage only has the instrumental section)
Two days before this recording I saw Genesis at the Summertime Open Air in Ulm. A wonderful memory for me. True, I have never seen such a good film and sound recording of this tour. I'm absolutely thrilled.
Yes, no pro shot official video was really shot for this tour, except Knebworth in fuzzy quality. Any other clips I've seen are lousy amateur stuff. This is also the last tour Genesis played the complete Cinema Show afaik so this is a real nice find.
"Seeing people enjoying the video is the best possible reward for me" - you may not be able to see me, but I certainly enjoyed it! There's not much decent quality film or video of them from their peak years and this is the best I have seen, great job.
Probably the Best footage I have seen from the 1978 Mirror Tour. Stunning, Magical. Makes me pray the master tape of show will emerge as buried treasure.

What an amazing post. Please don't ever stop posting. The quality of sound and video, unsurpassed by anything I've seen from this era. Probably the best Genesis post I've seen in some time. The edit, and once again the quality. Thank you
Daryl was awesome on this tour. As noted he adds his own flair to Steve's songs but when you hear a song with from the 3 man era like "The Lady Lies", with Daryl taking the lead, it make me wish Mike had handed off more tunes to Daryl... He shreds on that... if you have not seen or heard that look for the London 1980 Lyceum show. Tony and Daryl are smoking hot on that tune.

Why oh why didn’t they get Phil on the drums!! (Not complaining!!!) What a gift! Thank you. Used to be in the business of digitizing libraries like this, and you have saved an amazing piece of history.
Didn't know that they played The lamb lies down... during this tour. That was nice to see and hear 🎸
Incredible footage...thank you so much!!!!
What an amazing post. Please don't ever stop posting. The quality of sound and video, unsurpassed by anything I've seen from this era. Probably the best Genesis post I've seen in some time. The edit, and once again the quality. Thank you
Always loved what Darryl was doing on the guitar in the "Keep on turning...round, round" part of "In The Cage".
We NEED that whole show....!
