alright since everyone’s tripping about big L being in here, he said himself in an interview that he started horror core but likes other styles (which i said)
    here’s the interview: www.hiphopnostalgia.com/2014/11/big-l-uptown-renaissance-source-april.html
also he was one of the only early influences with a high res picture for the thumbnail or i woulda used esham or something
also sorry for the random censorship youtube was bugging

Ah. Makes sense. I’m not a youtuber but I have noticed that any deep dive/iceberg, true cr!m3, and other commentary channels that focus on “content that’s not Barney & Friends Child Friendly” will be dem0netized or just flat out bl@¢kli$ted. Same as the comments. Notice how I had to ¢3n$0r half of my comment, love that 😃👍
Anyways, I really appreciate how much research and work you put into your content. Hope you have a sick Halloween if you celebrate it !! 💯💯

Brotha Lynch was mind blowing to me in the mid to late 90s as a ten year old kid. I was into ICP already by then, but they've always had a goofy kinda vibe in their music. Brotha Lynch had this way of seeming so believable in what he was trying to convey. Some would even say that he was more gangsta rap at that point, but the horrors of what he was saying we're so vivid. The violence in his later albums absolutely eclipsed his early ones, but his early tracks were very shocking to me as a kid. My friends and I wore out 24 Deep and Season of da Siccness. They're really raw albums. Check em out.

I listened to them, Esham, ICP, and many other horrorcore rappers back then. Such huge influences. Horrorcore was inspired by Rockwell's Somebody's Watching me, and Vincent Price on Thriller. Like fast rapping. Horrorcore was a concept that mcs played around with, and often miscredit themselves for creating. Rap-A-Lot was the first to have Horrorcore records in stores. Next came the early 90s ultraviolent Gangsta Rappers (Spice 1, C-Bo). Russell Simon's coined the name Horrorcore, and wanted to push a group consisting of his Nephew, called Flatlinaz, however their album USA (Under Satan's Authority) Flocked. O.C. from DITC would release a song on his sophomore album called story, about a family being brutally tortured, murdered after the son stole from the cartel and left town. Big L would make Devils Son, after being inspired by Nas's verse on live at the barbecue. Onyx 2nd Album "AllWeGotIzUs" while not as graphic, over the top, or Violent, can be considered Horrorcore due to the dark production, sadistic lyrics, and just over all nightmarish feel of the album. AllWeGotIzUs would inspire stetsasonic members Prince Paul and Frukwan, to join Rza and Grim Reaper to create Gravediggaz. The album and group was not meant to be Horrorcore, just grim and sarcastic, although Rza's verse on 1800 Suicide is one of the best Horrorcore stories. Mid 90s The Midwest and Mid South enters the picture. Memphis, was a hub for alot of dark rappers, who used horror movie themes as beats. Bone Thugz at first were semi Horrorcore. They toned down after signing with Easy, However the rappers associated with them, such as Graveyard Shift, were Horrorcore. The last song from E 1999 Eternal, was Horrorcore, also they kept using their Horrorcore theme of Ouiji frequent. Memphis rappers Kingpin Skinny Pimp (Pls listen to "King Of The Playaball") who was a mix of Sex Rap, Gangster Rap, and Horrorcore, AL Kapone, Evil Pimp would set the tone commercially for Horrorcore in Memphis. Triple Six Mafia would drop Mystic Styles, later they would put out Kingpin Skinny Pimp's King Of The Playas Ball and Their album The End (Their most Horrorcore album). In Flint, Dayton Family would form, and push the envelope further, by rapping more aggressively. Brother Lynch Hung would release Season Of The Siccness, which would shift Horrorcore away from Bushwicks and Gangsta N.I.Ps less sensical style. To a more grounded and psychological style. 1996, The first Horrocore Rap Soundtrack Tales From The Hood would be released. Later a variation would be created called Shockcore. A mix between Battle style Rap, and Horrocore. Rappers would talk to the audience as if their battling them, and often pick certain moments in a song to pull out horrorific lines in exploitative ways to fuck with their listeners. Big L and Eminem does this all the time. In the early 90s Live Squad, the crew affiliated with Digital Underground and 2 Pac, made songs meant to shock the audience. 97 is the year Horrorcore would find its footing in rap. Brother Lynch Hung releases Loaded, a toned down, less graphic, but extremely tense and subliminal album, that still manages to have its grisly moments. DMX would debut with Its Dark And Hell Is Hot. DMX debut album is sprinkled with Horrorcore, one song X Is Coming where he raps about getting revenge, and has a line about threatening to sexually abuse a man's daughter in front of him. From 97 to 99, Rap goes through a dark period, where Death, grim songs, and horror are mixed together. 98 Wishbone releases his solo album. Which is very much a horrorcore album. Many rappers like Cage, Necro, Q-Strange, Bizarre from D12, Doomsday Production and others would start popping up. In 2001, Snoop Dogg would release the Bones Soundtrack, which is partially Horrorcore. From here on out,Horrorcore became Underground again, Brother Lynch would continue to put out project, most the 90s groups that participated in Horrorcore died off or matured away from it. Triple six mafia after signing to Loud, changed their name and started away from Horrorcore collectively, However Lord Infamous and Koopsta Knicca would make independent project. Koopstas song Voodoo Playground would be the pennicle of horrorcore in the south. DJ Paul and Lord Infamous would re-release their old projects "Exprcist tapes". Hip Hop would slowly start dying in the 2000s due to labels not giving artist chances to present their visions. Many Horrorcore artist would still put out albums. 2009, Eminem would make Relapse, that had some element of Horrorcore in it. However the bonus tape, had songs that were more horrorcore. Odd Future, would incorporate Shockc9re, and turn up the dial on atheism and childish violent raps. With Earl, Hodge Beats, and tyler pushing a alternative and more openly atheistic version of Shockcore. Tech 9ne would start a label, and sign brother Lync, who would then make his coat hanger strangler themed albums. Brother Lynch changed the tone again for Horrorcore, by making it more grisly, calculated, and ultra realistic. After the death of Lord Infamous, Seed Of 6ix was created, featuring a more polished, shocking, and rapid pace version of Triple six mafia style of Horror Rap.
This is how Horrorcore was created.

Would love to see you make a video on doomshop! It’s very similar to the horror core and Memphis genre, often using samples from old Memphis sigils’. Freddie dredd, SOULZAY, insomniac, baker ya maker, devilish trio, DA MENACE, and Ned bundy are all prominent creators within this genre, and are still carrying the sound till’ this day. 🔥

No mention of Necro? probably the only Italian jew in the scene, although he crosses over between horrorcore and gangsta rap, but then again most of them do. Also there is Gorefex, Circle of Tyrants, and others, but unlike West coast, East coast, and Memphis scenes, horrorcore is kinda all over the place, but Detroit does seem to be the main epicenter of its spread.
