    It's insane how freedom of speech is violated so frequently because people are so close minded. The concept of art tends to fly over their heads. Artists make real problems clear and the people that mainly cause them are just trying to hide them. Props to all those artists for speaking up and enduring the consequences bc problems don't get solved when they're swept under the rug

      @louiseogden1296 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@augustuslunasol10thapostle Absolutely. I think people from overseas think she had a lot more power than she actually did. She was a uniting figure for people across the political spectrum, but to say she was this ominpresent demigoddess who had absolute control over her subjects is false. We still have a government framework that's not always making intelligent decisions (which government ever does?!), but is democratic in the normal sense.
      As regards security at Royal events, though, they're not there to suppress political dissent. They're there to stop a rogue gunman picking off a figure from a great distance. With the best will in the world, few people with legitimate political issues do that as a matter of routine, but from sad experience there's always that one rogue knucklehead no-one can predict. There have been two random attacks on MPs over the last six/seven which ended in tragedy and neither were done simply because the attacker disagreed with their opinions. Rather, they were both fundamentally sick people who may have had superficial political opinions but were driven by a primal rage within them that made them go up to a person just doing their job and stab them to death. The two victims were from the opposite sides of the political spectrum. You can see from the myriad school shootings that it's not done because the teacher gave them a C in the maths homework. It's done because of fundamental problems in their psychological make-up that have been left to fester, and they have access to guns. (We have a knife crime problem in this country with strict gun control; people who go rogue maybe can't do as much damage as a shooter, but they have the same sort of motivation and struggles and they're not just people staging a peaceful political protest.)
      So the Sex Pistols weren't targeted because they were committing some heinous act of lese majeste. Their barge was a potential hiding place for someone a lot more sinister and in those days, gun ownership was a lot less well regulated than it is now. The point is that it was something the police couldn't control and therefore a potential danger to the Queen. They could perfectly well perform the song -- just not there where event security could be fatally compromised.

    N.W.A's Era was easily one of the most historical moments in Hip-Hop / Rap, they lived in a time where censorship especially amongst people like them was heavily enforced and they became a voice to those trying to overcome this barrier, which had people have mixed emotions about the songs they made, for their vulgar and criminal nature in which the songs that they produced and sold evoked, it was genius! N.W.A. is one of my favourite rap groups out there, True pioneers of the Rap industry.

    the racism around the song cop killer is actually pretty interesting just because this would've been around the time of the satanic panic around metal music in general. they very easily could've used this as another reason metal is evil and corrupting the youth, but since they were Black artists, they saw attacking Black music and rap (despite the song not even being rap) as the best way to cause an uproar around it. i find that all very fascinating.
    anyway, in 2021 they won a grammy for best metal performance, solidifying the fact that they're not rap, regardless of how much racists want to paint all music created by Black people as either rap or R&B.
