The SECRET Creators of TRAP Music (Story of Memphis Horrorcore - Trap)

  • In Recent Years Memphis HipHop has been getting more attention due to names like NLE Choppa, Pooh Shiesty, Big Scarr, Glorilla and other new rappers but there is a lot of history people don't know about. The 90s Memphis Horrorcore rap scene was responsible for popularizing a lot of the elements in todays music. Three 6 Mafia and 8ball MJG are the most well known group from this time period but outside of 36 Mafia and 8ball MJG rappers like Tommy Wright lll, Kingpin Skinny Pimp, Al Kapone, Gangsta Blac, Playa Fly played a big role in 90s Horrorcore music scene. Through the 2000s and 10s rappers like Yo Gotti, Blac Youngsta, and Moneybagg Yo took over to carry on the Memphis releveance.

Yep, they bring a different kind of soul to their lyrics, flow and delivery. Memphis has that documentary style kind of story telling and how they rapped. Just different - many say Memphis shyt is like it's own genre not a sub genre. BUT AN ACTUAL GENRE.
Thats why if you hear someone expresses their love for Memphis underground rap, they almost convey it being like it's own form.

Trap muzik was coined as such mainly about its content. It just so happened to adopt a certain sound. When T.I. first introduced the term and yes he is the first to put those two words together, it was not focused on just the sound. It wasn’t until Jeezy and Gucci started rapping on the shawty reds and zaytoven that were obviously Memphis inspired… thus creating the SOUND of Trap Muzik.

I’ve been on a old school Memphis kick recently and it’s so insane how modern a bunch of it sounds with the triplet flows and those 808s and high-hat rolls. Everyone always thinks of the East and West coasts when it comes to rap, and for good reason obviously but Memphis is definitely the most underrated region when it comes to the influence it’s had on todays music, it kinda can’t be overstated how important that Memphis sound was
Also there’s so much of it! You can spend all day listening to those early mixtapes. I can only imagine the amazing music that’s unfortunately lost to time since I’m sure a bunch of those early mixtapes are gone or have never been uploaded anywhere

"If you aint claiming LMG fxck yall hoes- Three 6 Mafia
"I think im G-Train"- Yo Gotti

"Don't make me take it back to LMG"- Finesse 2tymes
"L.M.G Rest in peace to G-Train nigga LMG"- Blac Youngsta
L.M.G also have thier own mural across the street from the Stax museum and have documentaries on the History Channel/Gangland(You should watch it)and TH-cam and most of those main artist you just named gave G-Train and L.M.G Mafia a shout out, thier flowers and respect as you can see.

This whole title Cap as hell. Memphis Horrorcore doesn't have SHIT to do with the origins of Trap Music. That shows me you just wanted to make a video bigging up Memphis but you don't have to discredit Atlanta in the Process. You coulda did your Due Diligence to figure out where it Originated on the ATL side of things.

You forgot about DJ Sound…… he did a ton of producing for Lil Yo who became Yo Gotti. The whole frayser click. How could you forget about that lol….. I had a feeling this would be lacking important details. You also forgot Blackout, who also produced for many Memphis legends. Also forgot Dj Fela, DJ Pinky, Dj livewire….
You’re talking about how Memphis is so underground but you’re only covering the most mainstream parts…. Not doing it any justice. Low key hated this video and disliked it lmao. You don’t know what you’re talking about.

But you really left a whole stone unturned by not touching base on those producers and the artists that they produced for. Memphis music doesn’t revolve around three 6 mafia
