A mate of mine who likes his cars, just like me. The new Turbo set-up sounds awesome. This was all done within the correct speed limits, and all traffic laws were obeyed.
For all you guys arguing over the sounds and why, it's the inlet noise of the turbo making the sound, the thing is, the BOV's on R34's are on the cold side of the inter-cooler, pretty far from the turbo compressor, so when the turbo is on boost and the throttle closes the centrifugal force on the compressor wheel keeps the turbo spinning but the boost air isn't needed so it needs to go somewhere. It goes out the BOV and re-activates the waste-gate, once the air pressure drops from the inter-cooler piping and associated pipework, the BOV closes, then the turbo centrifugal force and speed re makes boost again, but at a lesser amount this time building back up in the intake until the BOV opens again, once the air is released again the cycle repeats itself until the rotating energy in the turbo has dissipated below the BOV activation level. The chu chu chu chu, is the turbo inlet air slightly surging because there is a delay between the boost pressure build up and the BOV dumping the pressure, the delay creates the sound. If you had BOV's right next to the turbo compressor discharge you would nearly lose all of the chatter. The sound is essentially the dissipation of turbo wheel energy in oscillations.
They can go on any turbo charged car, usually only ones with external waste gates. It's just a pipe coming from the back of the waste gate that vents to atmosphere instead of plumbing back to the exhaust.

no, it's got no blowoff valve, so it's making a 'dose' sound.. like a VL turbo lol. the EWG and screamer pipe make the same noise, when it makes full boost the EWG opens and the screamer pipe vents to atmo.

uhhh no, the wastegate is fully tied to throttle and boost WG won't open until peak boost, it will NOT be making peak boost, it's impossible for the compressor to spin up again (or for the turbine for that matter) to start spinning up with the closed throttle, given there will be no exhaust gases flowing.

Whilst I'm no expert, I do believe this is the case, the closer it is to the turbo the less noise you will get upon sudden closed throttle episodes, but I don't think it is all that bad for the turbo, as the throttle has closed and the turbo is loosing it's energy quickly, it is very bad when the turbo is on full spool with and the turbo is experiencing surge with wide open throttle. I don't know quite the full ins and outs of turbo tech to solve these surge issues, but I have read in a few places now that a well sought out engine with the correct intake manifolds, exhaust etc is key for minimising this and that the surge is a difference in efficiencies between the turbine and compressor side. Also the flow in the rest of the engine and how well it is all balanced in it's flow characteristic's helps surge also by not creating bottle necks which can back pressure up. More PSI is not more power.
+Simons World No you are wrong. This car's BOV is set too tightly or the diaphragm is too small for the turbo size. The fluttering sound we are hearing is a very high level of boost surge. Solution is to first try adjusting the current BOV. If it persist, a secondary BOV is required. This car's surge sounds exactly as it would sound if a turbocharged car had its BOV removed completely. This is a clearly Boost Surge at a high level... nothing good about it.
+Eddie Trevizo Yeah ok mate, you must be a mechanical engineer? The car already has two BOV's, the stock ones. It minor surge, but it is not surging in the sense for harm, it is a mild oscillation, many turbo cars do this and do it for years. Surge when lifting off the throttle is a lot different to full boost surge with wide open throttle. Check out the signal GTR, you telling me they have done it wrong too? Many GTR's do this, it is fine.

+93bgkaou9 It's not my car, I owned one at the time with twin 2863's with 490kwatw, this one is my mates car with his T04Z, I know the bottom was still stock and had a TIAL wastegate and the general mods you'd expect for a modified GTR. It was running stock BOV's, had an aftermarket FMIC too. I'm sorry but I can't help you out too much on the finer details.
Yes. Car is still going strong atm and had BorgWarner EFR8374 since few years back. Still making same power, same sutututu and boost response even earlier with the EFR.

WG won't open until peak boost, it will NOT be making peak boost, it's impossible for the compressor to spin up again (or for the turbine for that matter) to start spinning up with the closed throttle, given there will be no exhaust gases flowing.

this car probably doesn't even have a bov on it. this type of surge is fine, true compressor surge while on throttle is what ruins turbos.
Isn't recirculating the air through the turbines / dose pipe bad for the turbo, I believe they put a stock factory BOV for a reason.
