That happened to me with chicken broth. I poured it into a hot glass bowl and it split in two and I burned my stomach so bad. I am surprised it didn't scar permanently, but it HURT. I was in High School at the time and I think that was the first time I had cried due to pain since I was a kid.

For small candles, such as votives, after you pour the wax let it begin to set & thicken, then add a birthday cake candle to the center of the candle- instant wick😊
Serious question…..if you all are willing to put all this effort and money into remaking candles, why not just buy the materials and make your own from the start? They’re so much cheaper that way, easier to customize, and you’re able to see exactly what ingredients they are used so that you’re not filling your houses and lungs with carcinogens. DT is filled with trash. I can’t imagine shopping there for something I can make 100x better on my own. 🤷🏼♀️
You can also fix this problem by making sure that the candle doesn't cool off too quickly after pouring. To do this, wrap your container in tin foil (only on the outside, of course) and heat it in the oven for a few minutes on "warm" (about 180 degrees).
When my daughter got married, she bought about 50 of the tall white candles… we painted the bottom of them (about 3 inches) in chalk paint coordinating with her colors - they looked amazing! Her reception venue was small (65 people) and had a huge mantle over the fireplace. We paired the candles with fake ivy on the tables (farmhouse style setup - a long table seating 24 or so - we had 3 of those) and across the mantle - so cozy and chic

When I was a kid we took a dry, cleaned out, cardboard milk cartoon, opened it all the way at the top, put a wick in the middle, filled it with crushed ice and then melted wax. When the wax hardened we peeled off the milk cartoon. This gave the candle a very cool "Swiss cheese" look! 😃
I make candles. Wicks are specifically sized (in thickness and material content) for the diameter of the jar. If you remove the wicks from a single tall jar and put it into a wider one, you'll get what is called "tunneling" when the wick burns. Meaning, you won't get a complete melted wax pool across the diameter of the candle. Instead, it will burn a hole straight down the center of the candle, creating a tunnel. The wick simply isn't fat enough to melt the wax across the entire diameter.
Funny you should say that. I've used a lot of commercial candles and they do tunneling and even turn off. Guess they don't use the right wick thickness.

Hey, I am an old guy. Yknow, don't like using maps, parts left over when I "fix" things, stuff like that. I normally do not watch many vids on stuff like this but I was really impressed with this. I ran and told my wife about it. Good work. With fire extinguisher near I am going to try a few of these ideas.
In high school art classes in the 60's we did some of these techniques. The whipped wax we used making Christmas candles frequently! It's great to see this art form resurrected!
Love these tips! Another fun way to customize when making a layered candle is to tilt the jar at an angle, pour the wax, and wait for it to harden. Then you can either pour the next layer right over it at the same angle, or change the angle of the jar to another direction (make sense?). Very unique and still inexpensive!!
I've done this for years. You can also take candles that are half used up or not your favorite scent anymore and combine them to make a new unique scent!!

My mother used to make large centerpiece wax candles in paper milk cartons. After they solidified she whipped some hot wax and iced the candles. They were absolutely beautiful. They made our Table settings gorgeous.

I have horrible anxiety and also have some other things going on that are keeping me from working an actual job and I am struggling extra hard today. I hate it. I feel totally useless. Watching this gave me some hope that I might have just found something inexpensive and easy to do that could make me a few dollars and doesn't look overwhelming, it looks fun and simple. I tried making jewelry but wasn't very good at it and I have been looking for something constructive I might be able to do. Thanks for sharing this, there are some great ideas here. I was literally just about to comment and say "make sure whatever glass you're using is heat safe!" because I see so many different candle videos where it's not mentioned. I love that you brought it up because it can be so dangerous to use glass not rated for heat.

You know I used to make candles when I was a kid and beeswax was a dollar for a pound and of course it's not that way anymore. Your ideas for reusing the wax in these candles and also the scent melts made out of wax and reusing wix and everything else in this video is 100% I love it!! Super genius chicky. ❤🎉😊
I have tried this and they ruin the candle. The wax they use in candles and melts have different properties for different purposes. The candle will tunnel because the flame isn't hot enough to fully melt the wax and the oil in the wax melts will burn and turn the middle of the candle brown.
Yeah, it's not really recommended to do that. a lot of times, it's a different type of wax, than jar wax and melts could also have more fragrance in them, since they aren't being burned. So, just because you can melt them and throw any ol' wick in there and call it a candle, doesn't mean you should. There's safety issues and like stated, it doesn't even burn nicely! Just spend the money to support a business (preferably small, handcrafted businesses) and get a candle that burns properly, with the correct wick, correct wax and the correct/safe amount of fragrance.
I usually melt them the same way you do and add fragance oils but I loved the stickers ideas. I love making beautiful candles on a budget ❤️ Great ideas, thank you so much 😊👌

Awesome idea! I used to make candles and bought the Gulfwax blocks which were mega expensive. Never thought about using these big candles! Another idea for colored candles is to use crayons. Most crayon colors only take one crayon to color it, but to get a really red candle, you may need two crayons. And Crayola seems to do best, but if you have a box of 64 crayons, that's a lot of colors and you can mix them. I used to love making the layered ones with different colors. I also used essential oils to make scented candles. Due to my horrendous allergies, I would never do that again, but at the time, it seemed like a good idea. I melted my wax in a double boiler. Great video!
I use a double boiler too, and love using crayons for color. I've found some really neat metallic, pearl, and sparkly crayons at Dollar Tree that worked great for color, especially if I just used that colored wax with added very fine glitter as a dip for the outside layer. Another tip for using wooden craft sticks to center the wicks is to drill a small hole in them to thread the wick through. A Dremel tool is ideal for this.
I was wondering a gift to give a friend who has everything and I think this is perfect!!! You can never have enough candles 🕯 and its a personal touch.

HOLY CRAP thank you for the butterfly candle idea! I have tons of dollar tree butterfly decals and other butterfly stuff around my room because I love them and the candles are just another fun way to use them instead of just putting them on the walls.

*Just a warning about repurposing candles (mostly the wicks).* It can be unsafe to put on old wick onto a candle of a different size. The wick might be too strong for the diameter of the new jar and overburn. (Meaning it might burn burn too hot and go through the candle 2x as fast, or worse, create alot of black soot on the edges and will heavily heat up the sides of the glass which can cause burns to yourself (or your furniture). It's cool for a personal project, but maybe don't give a bunch to people, as you are essentially giving them an untested candle.😅 Same point applies if are are mixing waxes from two different kinds of candles (you've now created an entirely new wax that may respond differently to the old wick.) Candles are heavily tested, but only to burn safely in the exact conditions they are sold in. (I.e X size wick burns perfectly in X size jar, with X kind of wax).

I've been doing this for years and save a fortune, I use the votive candles, wax melts of any scent and make the three wick candles that run anywhere from $3.00- on up! I do like the stickers on the tall candles because you usually can only find the religious ones that have decorations. I live in tornado alley and we always have a big supply in case the power goes off.

This is my favorite thing to do. I buy the candles and decals all year and use the clings as well to make theme candles. Great idea on the coffee theme candles.

I said this on a different comment but I LOVE empty glasses. I fill them with decorative rocks, marbles, shells, or sand. You can get all kinds of colors to match the decor. Some I even fill with flowers. For my friend's wedding we all got together and decorated the centerpieces using big jars of glass & rocks & marbles that matched her wedding theme. The bottom layer was blue marbles, then a layer of rocks, then we filled the rest with sand & put a tea light candle on top. We even decorate the glass itself with some glue & silver glitter.
You can also melt paraffin and once it’s melted take an old hand mixer (or a cheap one used only for crafting) and blend it until it’s the consistency of whipped cream.
That "Starbucks" candle is genius! I am definitely making some of those! And the red, white & blue layered candle is beautiful! Thanks for all your great ideas!

I started buying these candles years ago for emergency use during storms and they last for days.. I still don't know what to do with them except to add to my recycling bin.
Several years ago I made a keepsake (decorative only) candle for a bride-to-be. I bought a white pillar candle. I cut out the part of the wedding invitation that said the names of the bride and groom and the information about their wedding. I cut Saran Wrap the same size and taped the Saran Wrap covered invitation to the candle. Then I whipped paraffin until frothy and covered the taped area around the invitation and all over the rest of the candle like whipped cream. It was actually quite beautiful. I do not have a picture, so I hope I have explained the process where you can understand what I was trying to get across. Just be careful with the hot fluffy paraffin.

BIG TIP: USUALLY when you pour hot wax into a container, when it cools off it gives a well in the middle. So save some of the wax to top it off.

Heat gun Fixes all issues after it cools. Completely levels it out

I been burning fall candles since fall. Buy the 1/2 price and less. Got gome nice size 3 wick at WM for $0.50
None of the Dollar Tree stores in my area have all those color candles! We are lucky to see a white one with a Jesus sticker plastered all over it.

Watching this gave me some hope that I might have just found something inexpensive and easy to do that could make me a few dollars and doesn't look overwhelming, it looks fun and simple. I tried making jewelry but wasn't very good at it and I have been looking for something constructive I might be able to do. Thanks for sharing this, there are some great ideas here. I was literally just about to comment and say "make sure whatever glass you're using is heat safe!" because I see so many different candle videos where it's not mentioned. I love that you brought it up because it can be so dangerous to use glass not rated for heat.

Most of those candles represent belief and prayers. They do last a long time and most supermarkets carry them.
You know I used to make candles when I was a kid and beeswax was a dollar for a pound and of course it's not that way anymore. Your ideas for reusing the wax in these candles and also the scent melts made out of wax and reusing wix and everything else in this video is 100% I love it!!

I love the idea of using wax melts in the candles. I have quite a collection and it is a great way to use them up
I have tried this and they ruin the candle. The wax they use in candles and melts have different properties for different purposes. The candle will tunnel because the flame isn't hot enough to fully melt the wax and the oil in the wax melts will burn and turn the middle of the candle brown.
Yeah, it's not really recommended to do that. a lot of times, it's a different type of wax, than jar wax and melts could also have more fragrance in them, since they aren't being burned. So, just because you can melt them and throw any ol' wick in there and call it a candle, doesn't mean you should. There's safety issues and like stated, it doesn't even burn nicely! Just spend the money to support a business (preferably small, handcrafted businesses) and get a candle that burns properly, with the correct wick, correct wax and the correct/safe amount of fragrance.

Awesome idea! I used to make candles and bought the Gulfwax blocks which were mega expensive. Never thought about using these big candles! Another idea for colored candles is to use crayons. Most crayon colors only take one crayon to color it, but to get a really red candle, you may need two crayons. And Crayola seems to do best, but if you have a box of 64 crayons, that's a lot of colors and you can mix them.
I used to love making the layered ones with different colors. I also used essential oils to make scented candles. Due to my horrendous allergies, I would never do that again, but at the time, it seemed like a good idea.

I use a double boiler too, and love using crayons for color. I've found some really neat metallic, pearl, and sparkly crayons at Dollar Tree that worked great for color, especially if I just used that colored wax with added very fine glitter as a dip for the outside layer.
Another tip for using wooden craft sticks to center the wicks is to drill a small hole in them to thread the wick through. A Dremel tool is ideal for this.

*Just a warning about repurposing candles (mostly the wicks).* It can be unsafe to put on old wick onto a candle of a different size.
The wick might be too strong for the diameter of the new jar and overburn. (Meaning it might burn burn too hot and go through the candle 2x as fast, or worse, create alot of black soot on the edges and will heavily heat up the sides of the glass which can cause burns to yourself (or your furniture). It's cool for a personal project, but maybe don't give a bunch to people, as you are essentially giving them an untested candle.😅 Same point applies if are are mixing waxes from two different kinds of candles (you've now created an entirely new wax that may respond differently to the old wick.)
Candles are heavily tested, but only to burn safely in the exact conditions they are sold in. (I.e X size wick burns perfectly in X size jar, with X kind of wax).

Then how are “candle kits” able to be sold? Because they legit tell you that you can use any container with those.
@@marli8907 it's possible that the type of wick is not very big or maybe doesn't burn as hot/bright. So since thery burn low they're most compatible with tons of different jars in a range of sizes from small to big

I've been doing this for years and save a fortune, I use the votive candles, wax melts of any scent and make the three wick candles that run anywhere from $3.00- on up! I do like the stickers on the tall candles because you usually can only find the religious ones that have decorations. I live in tornado alley and we always have a big supply in case the power goes off.
Totally gonna recreate my fresh balsam candle instead of buying a new one, they're expensive after all

Tip for candle making.... Never use a container that has a top that is smaller than the base. They rarely burn correctly 😊

I said this on a different comment but I LOVE empty glasses. I fill them with decorative rocks, marbles, shells, or sand. You can get all kinds of colors to match the decor. Some I even fill with flowers. For my friend's wedding we all got together and decorated the centerpieces using big jars of glass & rocks & marbles that matched her wedding theme. The bottom layer was blue marbles, then a layer of rocks, then we filled the rest with sand & put a tea light candle on top. We even decorate the glass itself with some glue & silver glitter.
I have used the empty glass jars with glow sticks as luminaries.

You can also melt paraffin and once it’s melted take an old hand mixer (or a cheap one used only for crafting) and blend it until it’s the consistency of whipped cream.

Several years ago I made a keepsake (decorative only) candle for a bride-to-be. I bought a white pillar candle. I cut out the part of the wedding invitation that said the names of the bride and groom and the information about their wedding. I cut Saran Wrap the same size and taped the Saran Wrap covered invitation to the candle. Then I whipped paraffin until frothy and covered the taped area around the invitation and all over the rest of the candle like whipped cream. It was actually quite beautiful. I do not have a picture, so I hope I have explained the process where you can understand what I was trying to get across. Just be careful with the hot fluffy paraffin.
