Geachte heer Van der Zwart, Al tientallen jaren ben ik een fervent Bachliefhebber, en ik wou u toch even het volgende mailen. Gisteravond was ik op TH-cam aan het rondzoeken naar een uitvoering van BWV 54 om aan een afspeellijst toe te voegen. Sommige uitvoeringen hadden drama maar waren te langzaam en te romantisch, andere eerder te snel en ieder geval, naar ik meende, te oppervlakkig. Na een uur rondzoeken en een versie of 10-20 stuitte ik op de interpretatie die u, met uw studenten, hebt gegeven in het kader van het project ‘rondom Bach’ van het Conservatorium van Amsterdam. Ik vind dit duidelijk de beste uitvoering die ik heb gevonden - ze is onweerstaanbaar. De prominentie van de ritmische aspecten, die vaak zo geweldig zijn bij Bach (zoals alles dat bij hem is), zet alles op zijn plaats. Je hóórt het gevecht tegen de zonde. Voor zover ik dat kan inschatten, staat dit dichter bij hoe de muziek bedoeld moet zijn dan alle andere uitvoeringen die ik gehoord heb.Kortom: mijn complimenten. Het is een geweldige uitvoering. 90 percent of the work of a conductor happens in rehearsal, not the performance. If you think it sounds good, then really you are saying the conductor did a good job! :)

What a lovely performance. Interesting that the first aria was sung by a contralto and the second aria by a counter tenor. Love this.

Very mechanical and unemotional.
What a boring conductor, looks stiff, and not showing much feeling for the music. However, Sounds good though.
